So we have proposed a mine detection vehicle which can enter minefield with low-ground-pressure tires and scan landmines directly using GPR. Low-ground-pressure tire decrease ground contact pressure. And we are intended to make accurate map that point out the position where landmines are buried. The position of the vehicle is able to be observed with internal sensors (for the posture measurement) and external sensors (for the position measurement). However, when controlling the vehicle, the sampling time of external sensors and communication time from external sensors to the vehicle cannot be disregarded. Exact position of the vehicle must be predicted with dynamical model of the vehicle. We therefore propose dynamical model of the vehicle for low-ground-pressure vehicle. Based on experimental results, the dynamical model for low-ground-pressure vehicle is in consistency with actual behavior of it","PeriodicalId":121329,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Symposium on MicroNanoMechanical and Human Science","volume":"3 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131260058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, such measurement techniques are behind in development compared with molecular simulation techniques for numerical analyses. Pressure sensitive paint (PSP) technique is based on the interaction of oxygen molecules with luminescent molecules, and it seems suitable for analyses of high Knudsen number flows, which require diagnostic tools in the molecular level. In this study, we fabricate pressure sensitive molecular films (PSMF) with very small thickness based on the PSP technique and the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film technique. It is clarified that the PSMF composed of palladium (II) mesoporphyrin IX (PdMP) as a luminophore and arachidic acid as a buffer has comparable pressure sensitivity with conventional PSPs in low pressure regime with high Knudsen number, even if the amount of the luminescent molecules in the PSMF layer is much smaller than that in conventional PSPs. The results indicate the feasibility of PSMF technique for pressure measurement in high Knudsen number flows such as micro flows","PeriodicalId":121329,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Symposium on MicroNanoMechanical and Human Science","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133272912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cell elasticity and actin CSK features of shape-engineered fibroblasts and vascular endothelial cells (round and spindle-shaped) cultured on photolithographically microprocessed surfaces were characterized employing the cellular microindentation test and fluorescence observation of actin CSK by the combination of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and fluorescence microscopy (FM). Condition of directional cell movement towards stiffer region, so called mechanotaxis, was studied on the photolithographically-microprocessed microelastic gradient gel (MEG gel). The interrelationships between cell elasticity, the structural features of actin CSK and engineered cell shape were analyzed as compared with control cells cultured on non-processed surfaces (termed naturally extended cells). The results showed that the elasticity of regionally restricted adhesion-surface-induced shape-engineered cells, particularly highly elongated cells, is predominantly affected by cell shape rather than by the structural features of SFs. As for the mechanotaxis behaviors induced on MEG gel, design of both elasticity jump and discreteness in the elasticity boundary was found to be essential to cause cellular directional movement","PeriodicalId":121329,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Symposium on MicroNanoMechanical and Human Science","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123788194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, somatic fat rate of the whole body is measured for the purpose of the health care. In the meantime, it is useful to know the partial ratio of muscle mass and fat mass for carrying out the health care, when exercise capacity and metabolic rate are known. We considered that the measurement of local electrical bio-impedance could calculate ratio of muscle mass and fat mass of each region in the body. Consequently, we examined the method for effectively carrying out measurement of local electrical bio-impedance and interpretation of measurement data. It is effective to conduct the verification experiment using the gel phantom model prior to in vivo experiment, because shape, size, and electrical properties of the gel phantom model can be easily set. In this study, we prepared the gel phantom model of two-layer structure composed of the muscle gel phantom and fat gel phantom. Using this gel phantom model, we examined how the thickness of fat layer on the muscle layer influenced the local electrical bio-impedance. As the result, the change of apparent resistivity calculated from measured value was confirmed by varying the fat thickness of the two-layer model. And, it seemed to be possible to know relative increase and decrease in amount of fat mass of each region by understanding apparent resistivity calculated from resistance value and electrode interval","PeriodicalId":121329,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Symposium on MicroNanoMechanical and Human Science","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115381217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using multiple nanomanipulators, human-friendly haptic interface, and electro statically actuated MEMS micro gripper, 3D nanoassembly can be realized. These modified nucleosides are generated by specific RNA modification enzymes. In almost cases, RNA modification enzyme is composed by one single subunit or homo-subunits. However, recent studies have revealed that eukaryote tRNA (m7G46) methyltransferases are exceptionally constituted by hetero-subunits (Trm8/Trm82 in yeast; METTL1/WDR4 in human). This enzyme catalyzes the methyl-transfer from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to the N7 atom of the semi-conserved guanosine at position 46 in the extra-loop of tRNA. To clarify the functions of two subunits, we employed wheat germ cell-free translation system. When the Trm8 or Trm82 subunit alone was synthesized, methyl-transfer activity was not detectable. In contrast, when both Trm8 and Trm82 subunits were synthesized together, tRNA methyltransferase activity was clearly detected. Furthermore, we mixed two subunits after the synthesis, however formation of the active hetero-dimer was not observed. These results demonstrated that the formation of the active Trm8 and Trm82 hetero-dimer requires the subunit-subunit interaction during the protein synthesis","PeriodicalId":121329,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE International Symposium on MicroNanoMechanical and Human Science","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115433721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chromosomal DNA fibers are first hydrodynamically extended to the full length between micro-pillars on a substrate by EOF. In order to manipulate single chromosomal DNA fibers, we developed micro-hook and micro-bobbin, which were fabricated with SU-8 photo resist and grasped by focused laser beams. A targeted position of an extended DNA fiber was picked up with the micro-hook and translocated by moving the hook. To manipulate a whole DNA fiber, an extended fiber was wound to be compact using micro-bobbins. It has been shown as the new concept product machine as industrial robots, autonomous mobile vehicles as mobile robots or humanoid as walking robots with 2 legs. It also makes some innovation for conventional machine such as teleoperated construction machine, transporting system or new amusement game machine applying the basic technologies of robotics. We call it RT (robotics technology) compared with IT (information technology). The RT will show high potential power to integrate the behavior condition that the robot improves its function. For example, RFID tags in the complex condition as personal house supports task planning of intelligent behavior of robot.
