This retrospective study aims to compare the kinematic variables of lower limb joints in physically active females with normal versus excessive DKV during single leg squat (SLS) at 45° and 60° knee flexion. Methods: Based on the outcomes of drop vertical jump screening test, 34 females were recruited and divided into two groups (i.e., normal and excessive DKV). Participants performed SLS at 45° and 60° knee flexion with three-dimensional motion capture and analysis. The kinematic variables of lower limb joints at both knee flexion of SLS were compared across groups using independent T-test. Results: During 45° SLS with the dominant limb, the normal DKV group performed significantly greater hip adduction angle (4.49±3.25°, t(32) = 2.371, p= 0.024) than the excessive DKV group (1.426±4.23°). During 60° SLS with the dominant limb, the normal DKV group showed knee adduction (0.223±0.07°, t(16.048) = 10.707, p=0.001) while the excessive DKV group showed knee abduction (-4.478±1.81°). Conclusion: Females with excessive DKV showed significantly different lower limb kinematics and motion control strategy compared to females with normal range of DKV. The findings highlighted the importance of DKV screening among physically active females, and the rationale for prescribing individualized exercise intervention to prevent lower limb non-contact injuries.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122906714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the impacts of fasting during Ramadan on the daily habits, diet, and weight of people with diabetes in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cohort study analyzed 104 Saudi individuals with diabetes (42 and 62 patients with type I and type II diabetes, respectively) aged ≥ 20 years who fasted a minimum of 15 days during Ramadan. The patients were seen twice per study period (before and during Ramadan). The patients’ demographic data was obtained, their average daily food intake was assessed, and anthropometric parameters were measured. Results: During Ramadan, 52% of patients with type I DM and 66% of patients with type II DM did not perform any physical activity compared to 37% and 42%, respectively, pre-Ramadan. A high percentage of patients slept during the daytime. A paired-sample T test analysis showed that during Ramadan, the calorie intake and carbohydrate intake increased significantly in patients with type II diabetes (p = 0.03). Protein intake remained unchanged, whereas fat consumption increased in patients with both types of diabetes (p = 0.03 and 0.04, respectively). In addition, there was a decrease in anthropometric parameters (statistically significant in patients with type II diabetes, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Ramadan fasting changed the dietary and daily habits of patients with diabetes in Saudi Arabia and had beneficial effects on weight, mainly in patients with type II DM.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121962604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also examined the impact of perceived risks of the vaccine on healthcare workers’ decisions toward accepting it. Methods: Jordanian healthcare workers in governmental and private hospitals completed a cross-sectional online questionnaire. Results: A total of 904 respondents (age, 35.04 ± 9.07 years) completed the survey. The results indicate that most participants (88.9%) were at risk of contracting COVID-19, and many (51.4%) were afraid of contracting it. Moreover, 48.3% of healthcare professionals stated they would get vaccinated against COVID-19. Furthermore, most of the healthcare workers in this study perceived the vaccine as neither safe nor effective and that it could have serious side effects. At last, in terms of afraid of contracting COVID-19, the gender of the healthcare worker and his/her profession was identified to be the most influential factors in the decision to accept the vaccine. Conclusion: Our findings emphasize the ongoing need for government agencies to provide accurate and consistent information that is essential in developing trust in the vaccination program. Nurses can lead campaigns to inform the healthcare workers about the efficacy, safety, and the impact of COVID-19 vaccine in limiting the spread of this pandemic among them. We recommend that nursing council lead these efforts to improve knowledge about the vaccine and its impact on the safety of the healthcare workers and the public.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116133556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A literature review also reveals that the involvement of patients in healthcare has been associated with improved clinical outcomes. However, it rarely happens as several studies demonstrated that patient involvement in decision-making is lacking worldwide. Hence, health professionals, especially nurses, play an important role in patient involvement in decision-making as they are mostly engaged with patients during the care plan. This study aimed to assess the nurses’ perceptions and their role on patient involvement in nursing care decision-making. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at one of the university hospitals in Malaysia. About 105 nurses from 3 major departments (internal medicine, general surgery, and orthopaedic) were involved in this study. The data were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Results: The result showed that most of the nurses agree their patient involvement in decision-making relates to their encouragement to participate as well as having opportunity and enough information to participate. However, many of the nurses believe that they have to decide for their patients. Besides, a significant association between nurses’ years of service and their perception of patient’s involvement in decision-making (p = 0.01) was noted. Similarly, there is a significant association between the nurses’ department and their preferred role with p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study indicates the need to further improve nurses’ awareness of the importance and benefits of patient involvement in decisions related to their nursing care.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130733564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review aims to study how BDA was incorporated into digital health in managing the COVID-19 pandemic in six selected Asian countries, discuss its advantages and barriers and recommend measures to improve its adoption. A narrative review was conducted. Online databases were searched to identify all relevant literature on the roles of BDA in digital health for COVID-19 preventive and control measures. The findings showed that these countries had used BDA for contact tracing, quarantine compliance, outbreak prediction, supply rationing, movement control, information update, and symptom monitoring. Compared to conventional approaches, BDA in digital health plays a more efficient role in preventing and controlling COVID-19. It may inspire other countries to adopt this technology in managing the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130157013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) predominates in males while ovarian cancer (OC) occurs in females. NK cells essential for tumor killing may have male preponderance. Association of sex, NK cell activity and malignancies is unclear. We hypothesize that sex differentially affects KIR expressions in sex-biased cancers. Method: Expression of inhibitory (KIR2DL1-5 and KIR3DL1-3) and activating (KIR2DS1-2 and 4-5 and KIR3DS1) genes in B-, T-cell ALL, OC and normal controls were determined by reverse-transcription polymerase-chain-reaction. Result: All normal males (but not females) expressed the framework genes and generally maintained haplotype A, except KIR3DL1. Normal females expressed more activating KIRs. Frequencies of KIR2DL1, 2DL4 and 2DS2 were significantly reduced among ovarian cancer patients. Sex difference in frequencies of KIR expression was not detected in ALL as majority were undetectable except framework gene KIR3DL2, was more frequent among T-ALL. Conclusion: Cancers may be associated with reduced KIR expression and influence of sex requires investigation.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"414 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130997352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to investigate the nutrition characteristics and delivery in relation to 28-day mortality in mechanically ventilated patients. Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Maldives government referral hospital. Data about nutrition characteristics and delivery were collected from the ICU charts, and each patient was followed for a maximum of 28 days. Results: We recruited a total of 115 patients (mean age: 61.57±17.26 years, 52% females, mean BMI: 25.5±6.19kg/m2), of which 61 (53%) of them died within 28 days of ICU admission. Mean energy intake was 681.15±395.37 kcal per day, and mean protein intake was 30.32±18.97g per day. In the univariate logistic regression analysis, length of stay in ICU (OR = 0.950, 95% CI: 0.908 – 0.994, p = 0.027), and received intervention by a dietitian (OR = 0.250, 95% CI: 0.066 – 0.940, p = 0.040) were associated with 28-day mortality. None of the factors in the multivariate regression analysis remains significant when adjusted for sex, SOFA total score, daily energy and protein dosage. Conclusion: 28-day mortality was much higher in this study than in similar studies in South Asia, Asia and around the globe. None of the variables was significantly associated with 28-day mortality in the multivariate logistic model. However, there was a trend towards higher mortality for patients with shorter length of stay in the ICU, larger mean gastric residual volume, and no intervention by a dietitian.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125806377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apart from the Internet or Web 1.0, Web 2.0 tools has been increasingly used as alternative to seek health information and one such tool is social media platform. This study aims to identify cognitive determinants of health information-seeking behaviour through social media platforms among Malaysian adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study by means of convenience sampling was conducted during a nationwide pandemic lockdown. Cognitive determinants were defined as respondent’s perceived usefulness, perceived ease of user, perceived benefit, perceived costs, perceived behavioural control, and perceived risk towards social media use. Questionnaires were distributed via Google Form link to multiple social media platforms and cross-platform messaging app. Differences between group of sociodemographic factors and other independent variables were tested with nonparametric tests while multiple linear regression was employed to determine the significant predictors of the health information seeking behavior. Results: A total of 705 individuals responded to the survey invitation, the majority of which were females (65%), Malay (93.6%), married (52.1%), and received tertiary education (88.5%). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that perceived benefit (β= 0.612, 95% CI: 0.517-0.708, p<0.001), perceived usefulness (β= 0.653, 95% CI: 0.453-0.853, p<0.001), and perceived risk (β= 0.131, 95% CI: 0.03-0.259, p=0.044) significantly predict health information seeking behavior through social media platform. Conclusion: Our findings provide fundamental grounds for stakeholders to better understand and influence online behavior. The risk of thrombogenic complications increases in the presence of NAFLD and HT. Considering the occurrence of prothrombotic changes in the blood in patients with NAFLD, HT and obesity, the combination of these diseases may be an additional risk of thrombosis. Methods: The research was conducted at the Bogomolets National Medical University, at Department Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine No 1. We examined 152 patients and 15 individuals for control group. Results: Mean platelet count was higher in obese patients by 6.4% (p<0.05). In patients with NAFLD without HT, platelet count was higher in the presence of obesity by 16% (p<0.05), we have seen an increase level of MPV in NAFLD patients with obesity. In the comorbid course of HT and NAFLD, aggregation of platelets stimulated by adrenaline was grown in case of obesity (18%; p<0.001) relatively to non-obese patients. In obese patients suffering from HT, these hemostasis changes were characterized by a tendency to accelerate coagulation. There was a reduction in prothrombin time (PT) time by 8.1%, a growth in fibrinogen by 25.8% (p<0.001) and soluble fibrin monomeric complexes (SFMC) by 4 times (p<0.001) in obesity. The aim of this study was to identify the association between the ABO blood group and disease control among T2DM patients at Kepala Batas, Penang. Methods: Approximately two mL vials of fresh blood were collected and typed using the tube method from 129 T2DM and 132 non-diabetic (control) patients, who visited the specialist clinic. The sociodemographic characteristics of the T2DM patients was analysed using descriptive analysis. The proportions of A, B, AB, and O blood groups among the diabetic and control patients were compared using the chi-square test. Any association between the ABO blood group and disease control was identified using the bivariate correlation test. Results: No significant association was found between the ABO group and T2DM patients (p = 0.152) when compared with the control group. However, blood group B was the most frequent among T2DM patients (33.3%) compared to blood group O within the control group (36.4%). Negative associations were observed between the ABO blood group and BMI (r = 0.098, p = 0.268), as well as the HbA1C value (r = -0.065, p = 0.464). Conclusion: No association was found between the ABO blood group and the associated risk factors (BMI and HbA1C).
