Given the scarcity of research on nurses’ beliefs that used a psychology perspective, the purpose of this study was to determine nurses’ beliefs about the benefits and barriers to physical activity promotion for cancer patients at a tertiary teaching hospital in Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on nurses (n=104) at one Malaysian tertiary teaching hospital, using a simple random sampling method. A self-administered online questionnaire was surveyed from January until March 2021. The data was analysed using Pearson correlation analysis and an independent T-test with a significant level of p ≤.0.05. Results: 80.8% of nurses perceived the benefits of physical activity promotion for improving mental health in cancer patients. Lack of time (30.8%), patients appearing tired or unwilling to cooperate (20.2%), and a lack of knowledge (16.3%) were the barriers to physical activity. There was no correlation between beliefs about the benefits of physical activity promotion and age (p=0.908), working experience (p=0.982), ward type (p=0.666) or the average number of cancer patients cared (p=0.144). Conclusion: Nurses’ perspectives on the benefits of physical activity promotion for cancer patients support the use of planned behaviour theory for evidence-based nursing practice. There were, however, barriers to encouraging cancer patients to engage in physical activity. As a result, as a setting for health promotion, the tertiary teaching hospital must raise awareness, facilitate, and encourage nurses to engage in physical activity promotion behaviours.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128637261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In counteracting opioid abuse, Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) was introduced in Malaysia but relapse following MMT has become an important issue. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and patient factors that served as predictors of opioid relapse among MMT patients. Method: A cross-sectional study involving 159 MMT patients who have reached dose stabilization (eight weeks at a constant dose of methadone) was conducted in Johor Bahru Health District. The dependent variable was opioid relapse, while the independent variables include socio-demographic characteristics, MMT history, crime history, cognitive and interpersonal factors, and social-environment influence. Face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires and secondary data collection using data collection sheets were done. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the predictors. Significant level set at alpha less than 5%. Result: The response rate was 86.9% with majority of them were Malay, male, and Muslim. The prevalence of opioid relapse was 11.9%. Those who were non-polydrug users (AOR=3.701, 95%CI=1.182, 11.587, p=0.025), classified as having moderate (AOR=5.869, 95%CI=1.524, 22.595, p=0.010) and high (AOR=5.952, 95%CI=1.000, 35.445, p=0.050) relapse risk response after given hypothetical situation whether respondent been offered drug or not, were more likely to have relapsed. Respondents with higher cognitive and behavioral problem-solving response scores were less likely to have relapsed (AOR=0.949, 95%CI=0.909, 0.991, p=0.008). Conclusion: About 1 in 5 MMT clients had relapsed after they reach dose stabilization. The predictors of opioid relapse were non-polydrug users, having moderate to high relapse risk, and cognitive and behavioral problem-solving responses.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132262814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A vast pool of literature exists on the importance of nutrition during this phase of life with future diseases, obesity and mental health. However, despite the availability of many guidelines and policies revolving around infant feeding practices, adherence to it remains poor. This review explains factors that influence infant feeding practices from an ecological point of view. A Bronfenbrenner ecological model was used to argue the influence and interaction of various ecological factors on infant feeding practices. The review highlights that the way these factors affect infant feeding differs according to populations and settings. This review suggests the need for more robust and population sensitive interventions to improve infant feeding practices globally.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130453147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to determine knowledge and attitude towards DUWLS decontamination and its associated factors among undergraduate and postgraduate dental students in Universiti Sains Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a validated questionnaire administered online using Google Forms to assess the knowledge and attitude of dental students towards DUWLS decontamination. Descriptive and inferential statistics using independent t-test, Pearson, and Spearman correlation were carried out using SPSS version 24.0. Results: A total of 169 dental students participated in the study, and the majority were female (71.6%) and Malay (59.2%). The mean (SD) age was 23.2 (0.93) and 34.4 (2.65), for the undergraduates and postgraduates, respectively. The mean (SD) knowledge scores for the undergraduates and postgraduates were 11.6 (4.23) and 18.0 (2.82), respectively, whereas the mean attitude scores were 51.3 (7.86) and 54.6 (4.74), respectively. The postgraduates had significantly higher mean knowledge and attitude scores than the undergraduates (p<0.001). The significant factors associated with the undergraduates’ knowledge were received information and guidance and their personal experience in managing DUWLS (p<0.05). However, only received information on DUWLS was significantly associated with the postgraduate’s knowledge score (p=0.011). Age factor had a significant association with the attitude score among the postgraduates (p=0.014). Conclusion: The knowledge regarding DUWLS decontamination was relatively moderate in both groups. However, both groups showed a favourable attitude towards DUWLS decontamination. Significantly higher knowledge and attitude scores were presented among the postgraduates than the undergraduates.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131779510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is good evidence that Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) is effective over diabetes control and several cardiovascular risk factors in different populations, with little compelling evidence among Omanis. This paper describes the protocol of a wait-list, open labelled, randomized control trial, with its main objective aimed to determine the effectiveness of Mediterranean Diet intervention on glycaemic control and cardiovascular risks among T2DM patients in Oman. Methods: A total of 140 eligible T2DM patients will be recruited. Participants in the intervention group will undergo a six-month MedDiet program comprising of different activities (individual dietary counseling, cooking classes, phone calls and social media messages) while the control group will continue with standard diabetes care. Data collection will be conducted at baseline, after three and six months. The 2 x 3 mixed-design ANOVA will be used to determine the mean changes in outcome variables over the full study period between the two groups. Discussion: Epidemiology studies on nutrition and health had focused on dietary pattern, which provides an opportunity to account for nutrient-nutrient interactions lately. Mediterranean Diet has produced consistent findings on its protective role in diabetes management, with little information on its effectiveness in population outside of Mediterranean basin, including Oman. The outcomes of current study will be used to inform community and health care professionals on the effectiveness and practically of MedDiet on diabetes management.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127078789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be attributed to many hours of sitting during class, faulty posture, sedentary lifestyle or a combination of all these factors more so during online learning and movement control during the pandemic. This study aims to investigate the correlation between long hours of sitting and LBP among pre-clinical medical students in a private university in Malaysia during online learning. Methods: Quantitative data was collected from 100 consenting, pre-clinical MBBS students from year 1 and year 2 who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria using a pre-tested, validated questionnaire. Results: A total of 30 male and 70 female participants responded to the survey. 71(71%) students reported LBP in the past six months with year 2 students reporting a higher incidence. Though the intensity was not severe, most of the students reported acute pain after prolonged sitting episodes. Gender and LBP showed no association in Pearson Chi Square test. The correlation between year of study and LBP was statistically significant at X2=9.179, p=0.002. Point biserial correlation showed a strong, positive correlation between LBP and sitting duration, which was statistically significant (rpb =0.686, < 0.05). Conclusion: Pre-clinical MBBS students in the private university showed a high prevalence of LBP which correlated well with year of study and duration of sitting.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126806770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We hypothesized that the systemic administration of G-CSF would produce an accelerated fracture-healing rate in non-union bone defects; thus, potentially leading to useful clinical applications. Ten male adult Katjang goats, weighing about 15-26 kilograms were randomly chosen and a tibial bone defect was induced in each animal. The defect was maintained by internal fixation with a titanium plate and reinforced by an external fiberglass cast. Post-operative radiographs were performed twice weekly and radiographic assessments were performed by evaluating the bridging and union measurements through a validated method. In the treatment group, the time for bridging and union exhibited statistically significant differences when compared with a control group. The outcomes of the present study establishing a notion that administration of G-CSF besides inducing haematopoiesis, promotes healing of fractures and non-union bone defects as well.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128850834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patient was diagnosed as intracranial immature teratoma grade 3, from the pathological study and elevated alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Managing brain teratoma posed a challenge to the managing team due to the location of the tumour, the unavailability of standardized chemotherapy protocol and the dilemma of commencing adjuvant chemotherapy in a very young infant. The tumour was partially removed due to its critical location. And chemotherapy was delayed until the patient achieved 7 months of age. The goal of this study was to find out the prevalence of burnout and what factors contribute to it. We also want to know the correlation between caretaker’s strain and burnout. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study that involved caretakers of children with CKD. They were recruited from a university hospital in Kelantan, Malaysia. Self-administered questionnaire in Malay language comprised of Demographic Information Form, Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI-M) and Caregiver Strain Index (CSI-M) was used. Results: Eighty-eight caretakers were involved in this study. The mean age of caretakers was 42 years old, majority were female (72.4%), Malay (99.0%) and Muslim (99.0%). The mean age of children with CKD was 11 years old, most of them were on medication (69.3%) and mean duration of illness was 4.6 years. The prevalence of burnout in all domains (personal, work-related, client-related) among the caretakers was 5.7%. Eight caretakers had personal burnout (9.1%) while five (5.7%) had client-related and work-related burnout respectively. Multiple linear regression showed positive association of duration since the initial diagnosis and total ward admission within six months with total burnout score. Pearson correlation revealed a positive and fair correlation between strain and burnout. Conclusion: Prevalence of burnout among caretakers was generally low, but personal burnout outnumbered other domains. Children with CKD with longer duration of illness and more frequent ward admission are the important factors leading to burnout among caretakers. A high number of caretakers having significant strain indicated that there were possibilities of developing burnout later on.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133692812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to explore women’s perceptions and experiences of Pap test and colposcopy examination to avoid advance stage of cervical cancer. Methods: An exploratory qualitative approach was carried out using face-to face semi-structured interviews with 22 women attending for their Pap test appointment or colposcopy examination in the main hospital in Kirkuk, Iraq. The study took place between October 2019 and March 2020. The collected data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Results: The findings revealed gap in knowledge regarding Pap test and colposcopy investigation among participants. Overall, three main categories emerged during data analyses namely, women’s awareness of Pap test; challenges to access cervical screening and colposcopy services; women’s views and suggestions to improve their access to cervical screening cervices. Conclusion: Currently, women living in Iraq have no access to regular cervical screening due to unavailability of the cervical screening programme in Iraq. This study provides evidence to develop strategies to enhance the existing cervical cancer prevention services. Health policy makers should consider the establishment of regular population based cervical screening. Health promotion efforts and interventions should focus on challenges and barriers influence the screening behavior among women living in Iraq.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134291676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
