This study aimed to determine the causes and consequences associated with picky eating behaviour among school-aged children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Methods: A total of 339 children aged seven to nine years participated in this cross-sectional study. Socio-demographic factors, eating behaviours and child/ parental feeding style were assessed through parent’s questionnaires, while eating habits of children were accessed through child’s questionnaire. Body height and weight were measured; body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Cognitive function level was determined using the Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices test. Results: One third (38%) of the children were picky eaters and consumed lesser vegetables (χ2=4.49,p=0.034) and fish (χ2=5.55,p=0.019), but more milk and dairy products (χ2=3.91,p=0.048), snacks (χ2=6.25,p=0.012) and fast food (χ2=7.35,p=0.007) compared to non-picky eaters. Picky eaters were more likely to have normal weight status based on weight-for-age, height-for-age and BMI-for-age compared to non-picky eaters (p<0.05). Picky eaters came from a household with other picky eaters in the family and their parents tend to use an instrumental feeding style. Picky eaters had a poorer cognitive function compared to non-picky eaters (p=0.03). Conclusion: We did not find significant differences in growth parameters between picky and non-picky eaters but picky eaters were more likely to have a poorer cognitive function. As parental feeding styles significantly influenced children’s eating behaviour, interventions should target parents to improve their children’s dietary variety.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131653683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s been used as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory substance for a long time. This study aims to investigate the effect of quercetin on periodontitis caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis-adhered ligatures. Methods: Eighteen male adult Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups, namely the control group (C, n=6) and the other two groups that received quercetin at 45mg/kg/day as a preventive (Qp, n=6) and a curative treatment (Qc, n=6), respectively. Under general anaesthesia, periodontitis was induced by placing a 3/0 non-resorbable sterile silk thread around the mandibular incisor teeth of eighteen male adult Sprague Dawley rats. The ligature placement caused severe irritation in the periodontal tissue. The animals were euthanized after 14 days of post-induction treatment, and samples of the mandibular portion were kept in formalin and prepared for histological processing to determine the grade of inflammation (GI). The periodontal pocket depth (PPD) was measured using the Michigan-O probe with Williams marks at the mesial and lingual sites of the rat’s incisors tooth to determine the clinical parameter. Results: Qp showed the best improvement, in both parameters, clinically (PPD score, p=0,0018 at the lingual site, and p=0,0264 at the mesial site) and histologically (GI, p=0,0002). Significant differences were found in preventing clinical attachment-loss statistically (p<0,05) on Qp, better than the Qc at an equal dose (p<0,05). Conclusion: This finding suggests that quercetin administered as a preventive measure (Qp) may promote the healing process of gingiva in periodontitis conditions better than the control group and curative group (Qc).","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123427131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Systemic arterial stiffness may accelerate the pre-existing damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the association of arterial stiffness with severity and progression of visual field in Malay patients with POAG.\u0000Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 55 patients with POAG and 55 age- and sex-matched control subjects. The patients with POAG were further divided in accordance with their Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS) scores on their visual fields (VFs) (mild in 23 patients, moderate in 18, and severe in 14). Progression was defined as the worsening of the VF defect quantified as an increase in AGIS score of 4 points from the baseline. Arterial stiffness was measured using SphygmoCor and quantified as pulse wave analysis (PWA) and pulse wave velocity (PWV). Results: No significant differences in PWA and PWV were found between the patients with POAG and the control subjects (p=0.333 and p=0.443, respectively). The mean follow-up duration for the patients with POAG was 4.7±3.1 years. PWA and PWV showed no significant association with POAG severity after the confounding factors were controlled for. Ten patients with progression of VF were identified. In the analysis of covariance, a significantly higher PWV was found in the patients with disease progression (p=0.036). Conclusion: VF severity and progression were not associated with systemic arterial stiffness. The probable reason is that other factors affecting retinal microcirculation may play a larger role in the severity and progression of POAG.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116650465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Good nutritional status is very important for children, but in reality there are still many malnourished children. Lack of nutrition and the habit of consuming excess food can make teeth susceptible to caries. The tooth with the highest caries incidence is mandibular first molar which is the most important tooth in mastication process. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of caries in permanent mandibular first molar children aged 7 years in Plalangan Village, Jember, East Java, Indonesia. Methods: This is an analytic observational research with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique of this research is Total Sampling, which uses the entire population as the sample of this study. This research was conducted by measuring the nutritional status of BMI-for-age based on anthropometric standards from the Minister of Health of the Republic Indonesia No. 2 of 2020 and examining the oral cavity to see whether there is caries or not in the permanent mandibular first molar. Results: The results of the Chi-Square Test showed a value of 0.036. Conclusion: The result shown that thinness and overweight children have a higher caries incidence than normal weight children. There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and incidence of permanent mandibular first molar caries.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121166284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Indonesia, 10% of ARI cases occur in East Nusa Tenggara, which is the highest prevalence of ARI in this country, with 90% of them leading to under-five mortality. There are various factors that cause the prevalence of ARI. In East Nusa Tenggara itself, environmental factors are suspected to be the risk factors for this disease. This study aims to analyse the association between environmental factors and the incidence of ARI among children under five years old in East Nusa Tenggara. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted by analysing secondary data sets obtained from DHS, with a total of 337 subjects examined in this study. Multivariate logistic regression was applied to investigate the association between ARI and various environmental factors. Results: This study found that the prevalence of ARI among children under five years old in East Nusa Tenggara was 9.04% of all subjects. ARI was significantly associated with the types of residence (OR 2.2, 95%CI 1.1-4.3) and passive smoking status (OR 4.7, 95%CI 1.8-12.4) as its risk factors. In addition, there was strong association between ARI and the types of roof (OR 3.3, 95%CI 1.3-8.9) as its protective factor. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the incidence of ARI in children under five years old was closely associated with residential area, smoke exposure, and roof materials.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114524180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a case of rvGIST that was initially managed as cervical eGIST based on clinical assessment. A 66-year-old woman presented with postmenopausal bleeding and constipation. Bimanual pelvic examination revealed an irregular mass occupying the vagina. CT thorax, abdomen and pelvis showed a 9.2 x 10.0 x 14.0 cm pelvic mass arising from cervix, extending superiorly to involve the uterus. The patient proceeded to undergo total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, enucleation of rectovaginal septum mass, rectosigmoidectomy and permanent colostomy. Intraoperatively, there was a 9 x 7 cm mass arising from rectovaginal septum. Histopathological examination of surgical specimen revealed spindle cell tumour diffusely positive for CD34, CD117 and DOG1. The final diagnosis was rvGIST. In conclusion, the diagnosis of rvGIST require a combination of clinical assessment with intraoperative finding and histological assessment of the surgical specimen.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126126331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, owing to its depressant effect, xylazine has become a substance of abuse by humans. Misuse of xylazine not only triggers unwanted consequences (death), but also linked with various crimes. Google Scholar, PubMed and SciFinder were used to retrieve articles and case reports in relation to the misuses of xylazine and established analytical methods for forensic investigation until November 2021. Literatures reported the accidental and intended poisoning of xylazine, recreational use of xylazine and as an adulterant in recreational drugs. In addition to being a facilitator of crime and sexual assault, it is administered illegally to food producing animals as a sedative and to sports animals as a doping agent. Problems associated with the abuse of xylazine were highlighted in this review, covering the unknown prevalence of xylazine abuse and the need to revise the regulatory status of xylazine. In addition, limited screening and confirmatory methods that can be readily utilised to detect xylazine either alone or simultaneously with other substances of abuse, particularly useful for forensic toxicology and narcotic section were available in the literature. As a conventionally used veterinary drug, xylazine is undoubtedly a potentially hazardous drug, and the investigations on its potential abuse would enhance routine forensic examination to keep pace with the status of illicit drugs.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129471395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In view of the urgency to diagnose biliary atresia and restore bile flow through surgery, HIDA scintigraphy could help to distinguish between neonatal cholestasis due to biliary atresia and neonatal hepatitis of various causes. We describe a full-term male infant with jaundice beyond the physiological period in which HIDA scintigraphy showed absent tracer excretion from the biliary system into the intestines up to 5 hours on follow-up imaging. The intraoperative diagnosis confirmed the diagnosis of biliary atresia. The prognosis of the patient with biliary atresia depends on early surgical planning and intervention. Therefore, non-invasive diagnostic tools play an important role in the evaluation of a child with neonatal cholestasis.","PeriodicalId":120318,"journal":{"name":"JULY ISSUE","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127787363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
