A one-year case study, including several scenarios and hourly discretization, may be very efficiently solved using an off-the-shelf solver on a laptop. However, getting those data is not always an easy task. In this work, we study whether it would be possible to get an approximate solution by using aggregate measures for those uncertain parameters and how should the problem be transformed to handle that aggregated information. By taking into account the average values of consecutive periods, we propose a linear transformation of the constraints and a set of additional ones to get this goal. Results over a case study show that the proposed procedure provides reasonable values, although the precision could be improved if some additional information, apart from the average values of the uncertain input data, is considered.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127634626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An internal short-circuit in a transformer led to an explosion followed by a fire at the Macapa substation. This event left about 90% of the Amapa's population without power for several days in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, disrupting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and raising concerns from several electricity sector stakeholders. This paper discusses select lessons learned from the power blackout and presents future opportunities to improve power system reliability and resilience for the grids in Amapá, and other similar Brazilian states, with a special focus on the increasingly important role of of distributed energy resources and smart grid technologies.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130984404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, optimization of microgrid's resources has gained importance. The main challenges on optimization of microgrids are the high penetration of renewables such as PV and wind power, since these sources have an intermittent behavior that increases uncertainties, and managing DERs and energy transactions with the distribution system. This work proposes a framework for the day-ahead optimal operation planning of a microgrid containing batteries, controllable loads, PV generation, and thermal generation that accounts for the uncertainties using a robust optimization (RO) approach. The microgrid network feeders were also represented, aiming to ensure compliance with the operational constraints such as bus voltages and feeders' capacity limits. The system was modeled as a mixed-integer linear programming problem (MILP) and solved using a two-stage decomposition via a column and constraint generation algorithm (C&CG). The results indicate that the proposed framework can solve the microgrid optimization problem within reasonable computational time (< 5s) and demonstrate the importance of considering uncertainties, since a mere 15% uncertainty in load and PV generation forecast caused a 29,8% increase in daily operational costs.","PeriodicalId":120262,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123260238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of the reconfiguration problem is to find a radial network topology with minimum technical losses. This work presents an approach to address the reconfiguration problem using the Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA). FPA is a metaheuristic inspired by the pollination of plants through flowers. The proposed method is validated using several test systems found in the literature. Results are compared with other techniques, verifying the efficiency of the new approach. The measures of current and voltage signals, available in the protection devices through the COMTRADE standard format, were used as model inputs. Data processing is realized using symmetrical components and the R-DFT algorithm, model settings and training are also reviewed in detail.
