The objective is to identify the public policies and actions adopted and the impact perceived in the improvement of working conditions and quality of life for this population. Among the possible methodological variations, this article develops a case study on programs implemented by the Coordination for Sexual Diversity (CEDS) of the City Hall of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Seeking to meet the requirement of having multiple sources of evidence required by the case studies, data were collected from documentary evidence obtained at electronic websites of the city of Rio and printed articles pertinent to published achievements, as well as an in-depth interview with the coordinator responsible for the implementation and management of the programs. Steps were taken towards valuing and including LGBT+ minorities through the creation of CEDS/ Rio, which became responsible for the defense of LGBT+ Civil Rights through the care, reception and referral of complaints made by citizens in vulnerable conditions, which contributed to the per- ception of belongingness and solidarity of the State towards its citizens. Including the excluded LGBT+ minority is an example that should be followed in order inequalities are reduced in developed and underdeveloped countries. Keywords: Reducing Discrimination, Human Rights, and Inclusion of Minority, LGBT+, Gay Friendly City, and Rio de Janeiro.","PeriodicalId":119562,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Management and Economics","volume":"30 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125653634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Not only is there discussion surrounding what empowerment means and encompasses (Cox et al. , 2006), there is also discussion as to how it should be applied effectively (Denham-Lincoln, 2002).  Research in this area indicates that numerous factors impact upon perceptions of empowerment, and it would appear that a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors influences the extent to which an individual perceives they are empowered, and even the way in which an individual perceives they are empowered (Cooney, 2004).  This work concentrates on perceptions of female empowerment in senior leadership roles and determines that the most critical factors influencing perceptions of female empowerment are derived from individual approaches to leadership and the extent to which a female is supported in their position.  Unfortunately, the research demonstrates that the actual situation facing female leaders in the workplace and the extent to which they are empowered is significantly less than the ideal state might wish.  Attempts to redress the balance have included discussions surrounding the use of quotas to help empower women (Colney, 2011), and also alternative forms of training and mentoring to help provide women with the necessary techniques and skills to achieve parity in the workplace.  Overall the research establishes that there is no single solution to the problem of empowerment.  This situation is exacerbated by the chasm between perception and reality, with acceptance of equality at surface level but the practical and factual evidence demonstrating significant levels of inequality.  At the close this discussion it is concluded that until these issues are discussed in open forums then it is unlikely that there will be any form of significant change. The research critically examined the effectiveness of possible alternative practical resolutions to improving female presence and representation in senior management levels and the boardroom, and investigated the effectiveness of quota as a proposed resolution to level the playing field in the business world.","PeriodicalId":119562,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Management and Economics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131789911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the market competition, the strategic alignment has stood out as a competitive advantage in organizations. In search for this alignment, it is essential for companies to map the competences of the officers who represent them, in addition to defining which competences are necessary for each situation inside the organizations. To deepen the empirical standpoint, a case study of qualitative nature in the customer service was carried out in an Educational Institution (Basic Education and Higher Education) in the Campinas Metropolitan Area/SP. The results of the work reveal that the necessary competences are determined by the customer service team managers. In the team, a high rate of collaborators who possess the necessary competences in customer service was identified. The practical relevance of the corporative processes and their possibilities through the mapping of the competences were executed.","PeriodicalId":119562,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Management and Economics","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132369365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, empirical studies have yielded varied results on the influence of the various dimensions of strategic orientation under different conditions. Furthermore most studies have focused on large firms and more so in developed countries. The primary objective of this study was to examine the effect of analysis dimension of strategic orientation on the performance of SMEs in a developing economy. The study employed explanatory research design. D ata was collected from a sample of 390 hotel and food service SMEs and was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Pearson Correlation was used to test for linear relationships between the variables while the research hypotheses were tested using multiple regression models. The findings indicated that Analysis dimension has statistically significant (β=0.929, ρ 0.05) on the relationship between analysis dimension and firm performance was not significant. The study thus concluded that Analysis dimension significantly and positively affects firm performance in SMEs regardless of the ownership status of the top managers and recommends for managers and policy makers to focus on analysis strategies in order to enhance firm performance in SMEs.","PeriodicalId":119562,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Management and Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129035206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

What are the challenges and strategies adopted by organizations to attract and retain human capital? This study aims to discuss the challenges faced and the strategies adopted in the retention of human capital in large companies. To understand this theme, five large companies from the Metropolitan Region of Campinas / SP - Brazil were surveyed. The research is applied, with a qualitative approach and explanatory purpose. The results of the research indicate that the companies surveyed gradually began to implement policies and ways of managing / leading with a focus on the retention of human capital. This is because they perceive the importance that the retention of human capital represents in creating a sustained competitive advantage. However, it is still necessary that the companies studied create a \"value proposition\" that contributes to attracting good employees; establish a balanced and efficient human capital management / leadership system with broad possibilities to retain and create a sense of \"belonging\" to employees; that the management / leadership of human capital is done in a way that helps to guide the career taking into account both organizational goals and personal growth and aspirations.","PeriodicalId":119562,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Management and Economics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115295510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
