Thus, we propose a polarization-domain rotation scheme which rotates the axis of each polarization component such that their power gains are well balanced. In addition, we show that there exist optimal rotation angles which can minimize the BER. Throughout extensive simulation studies, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed polarization-domain rotation scheme for various scenarios.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132325757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While cloud computing has traditionally meant software technology, of late there has been active research on cyber-physical cloud systems involving vehicles and mobile robots. In this paper, a set of mobile field robots linked by wireless communication is connected to a cloud server for the purpose of environmental monitoring. One of the robots is used as a base station, while the others are equipped with air quality sensors and on-board microcontrollers for navigation and control. The air quality data are transmitted to the base station robot, which forwards them to the cloud-based server for storage, retrieval, and visualization. The cloud server can also be used to perform computation-intensive functions like image processing using the Google Recognition Engine. A prototype system consisting of three networked mobile robots with open source microcontrollers and air quality sensors connected to a cloud server is developed, and experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115882432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method follows a 2-level multi-classifier system (MCS) with heterogeneous classified bases with a relationship to EMG and MMG signals and a mechanism that combines the use of a probabilistic competence functions of base classifiers and dynamic ensemble selection scheme. Additionally, two original concepts of the use of feedback in signal deriving from the prosthesis sensors to improve the classification accuracy are presented. In the first method, the feedback signal is dealt as a data source about a correct class of hand movement and competence functions of base classifiers are dynamically tuned according to this information. In the second approach, classification procedure is organized into multistage process based on a decision tree scheme and consequently, feedback signal indicating an interior node of a tree allows us to narrow down the set of classes. The performance of MCS with both methods of using feedback signal were experimentally tested on real datasets concerning the recognition of six types of grasping movements. The development of the systems accomplished high classification accuracy showing the value of multiple classifier systems with multimodal biosignals and signal of feedback from the prosthetic sensors for the control of bioprosthetic hand.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132664553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mathematical optimization is one of the domains, which benefit from cloud computing by using additional computing power for optimization problems to reduce the calculation time. Of course this is also true for our field of metaheuristic optimization. Metaheuristics provide powerful methods to solve a wide range of optimization problems and may be used as a foundation for a data analysis service. Due to the deficiency of an agreed-upon reference architecture it is quit cumbersome to compare existing solutions regarding different kinds of aspects (e.g. scalability, custom extensions, workflow, etc.). Besides the usual user working with an optimization service we also have those who are responsible for architecting and implementing these systems. The lack of a list of requirements and any formal reference architecture makes it even harder to improve those systems. For that reason we have raised the following questions: i) what are the requirements, ii) what are the commonalities of existing optimization software, and iii) can we deduce a reference architecture for a cloud-based optimization service? This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of current research projects and important requirements in the context of optimization services, which then leads to the definition of a reference architecture and forms the base of any further evaluation. We also present our own hybrid cloud-based optimization service (OaaS), which is built upon the PaaS-approach of Windows Azure. OaaS defines a generic and extensible service which can be adapted to support custom optimization scenarios.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114375418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is called enhanced micro-structure descriptor (EMSD). EMSD is the enhanced model of micro-structure descriptor (MSD) which proposed by Guang-Hai Liu. Different with MSD that uses only edge orientation similarity for creating micro-structure map and then utilises this map along with color values; EMSD adds a new micro-structure map that is based on color similarity and then utilises this map along with edge orientation values. The combination of MSD and the additional micro-structure descriptor is used as feature extractor in EMSD. This method is tested on 300 batik images, Corel datasets with 5,000 images and 10,000 images. We also compared EMSD to MSD and multi-textons histogram (MTH), which EMSD performance is superior than the other two.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130311764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud computing is one of these creative concepts that allowed companies to further taking advantage of their potential. Cloud computing is assisting companies to execute their business plans more efficiently. As cloud computing has multi-tenancy structure, availability and efficiency of the resources is essential foundation of the cloud architecture. Recent studies showed that, optimized cloud computing could be seen as an elastic network of resources that are interacting with each other, to minimize the waiting time and utilize the throughput. Therefore load balancing and resource management can be highlighted as the main concerns in cloud computing as they are impacting the network performance directly. This research aims to discuss the current challenges existing in load balancing algorithms. Different metrics and policies of the relevant load balancer algorithms have been investigated and as a result, collective behavior has been proposed as a new policy for classification of elasticity mechanism in load balancing.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115876771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
