SDN separates the decision maker, called the control plane, which decides where packets are sent, from the underlying infrastructure, called the data plane, which forwards packets to the decided destination. A newly emerging standard for SDN is the OpenFlow standard, which includes a standardized protocol for communications between the control plane and the data plane. This study analyses the extent to which the location of OpenFlow controllers affect the performance of an OpenFlow network. The analysis is undertaken using the OMNeT++ INET Framework discrete events network simulator. By analyzing key network metrics including round-trip-time (RTT) and data transfer rate (DTR), the results indicate the location of the controller has a demonstrable affect the performance of the network.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114499788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Openflow enables the controller to create flow table entries in the switches, and also enables the analysis for underlying network topologies. The Mininet provides a simple and inexpensive network test-bed for developing Openflow applications. The default version of the Mininet supports pre-defined topologies such as single, linear, tree etc., in a single IP network. To generate custom topology, one has to write programs in the Mininet. The goal of the proposed work i s to provide a custom topology framework which enables the creation of any custom network topology of user's choice, including multiple IP networks. Thus, user can carry out research on different networks having separate broadcast domains. The framework has been so designed that it will not affect the performance of t he ex isti ng Mininet significantly.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126308830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Images of different samples are captured using a High Definition camera and image processing is employed to extract the trends of measures of texture analysis. The findings show that saline water with different proportions of impurities display varying characteristics of five measures of texture. This research is enormously significant for checking the impact of human activities on the water bodies.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132747137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For authenticating messages the IEEE 1609.2 standard uses ECDSA as the standard digital signature algorithm. But the verification time for an ECDSA signature is very high. As a result an inside or an outside attacker could use a fraction of bandwidth and flood the network with invalid signatures resulting in Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Thus in this work a two phase scheme is proposed to mitigate inside and outside DoS attackers in VANETs. In the first phase HMAC signatures computed from private and public key pair are used for authenticating the communicating entity. As only authentic users can compute the HMAC signature, DoS attack due to outside attackers is mitigated. If the entity is authentic and subjects other vehicle to DoS attack, the second phase is designed to detect the insider attackers. In this phase based on the number of invalid signatures flooded by the attacker, it is compared against a threshold value to identify the inside attacker. Hence DoS attack is mitigated due to inside as well as outside attackers. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme not only alleviates DoS attack but also performs better with negligible computational overhead.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117155268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this system, the bi-direction communication channel is separated into an instruction path and a data path. The instruction path consists of two different kinds of instructions. The first one is command instruction which provides parameters setting for the sensor nodes. The other one is reconfigurable instruction which serves control signals for executing the applications with the characteristics of loops or repetitions. In addition, a low-cost, low-power and high performance micro control unit (MCU) core is designed for this system. It consists of an asynchronous interface, a register bank, a reconfigurable filter, a slop-feature forecast, a lossless data encoder, an error correct coding (ECC) encoder, a UART interface, and a power management (PWM). Moreover, a multi-sensor controller and a reconfigurable memory were added to the proposed MCU design for various body sensors controlling and the loops or repetitions executing. This work achieves reductions of 83% instructions by comparing with a multi-sensor system without reconfigurable control system design. It gets both benefits of reducing the loading in software systems and saving power consumptions when transmits instructions. The MCU core for the reconfigurable control system was implemented by 0.18 μm CMOS process technology. The core area is 202,484 μm2 and the power is 2.9 mW operating at 100 MHz frequency.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128849417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various IEC methods have been studied for design problems. An important challenge in IEC is to decrease human user's workload for fitness evaluation. For example, it is almost impossible for human users to continue to examine and evaluate tens of thousands of solutions. In some application fields such as evolutionary music, it is impossible to evaluate multiple solutions simultaneously. In our previous study, we formulated an IEC model by assuming the minimum level of the human user's ability to evaluate the fitness of each solution. We also illustrated our IEC model through computational experiments on combinatorial optimization problems. In this study, we address the use of our IEC model for continuous optimization problems. We propose an idea to incorporate step-size adaptation by the well-known one-fifth success rule into our IEC model. Through computational experiments on four test problems, we examine the search ability of our IEC model with the step-size adaptation mechanism.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117065645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning Objects Repository (LOR) has been seen as a key factor in eLearning and knowledge management environment. Universities in Saudi Arabia have prioritized implementing eLearning in their development plans. However, current learning and teaching process in higher education in Saudi Arabia is still mostly traditional. Educational and information technologies adoption is slow due to the lack of awareness about the importance of collaborative learning that is mainly based on LORs knowledge and technical skills that educators and learners should have. There is a need to study the possible technical tools and approaches that can direct eLearning practices in Saudi Arabia to embrace the initiative of the Saudi National Learning Objects Repository “Maknaz” in order to collaboratively populate and digitalize its knowledge contents. Due to the slow adoption of technologies and knowledge management systems in Saudi higher education, it is important to analyze the academics and students' acceptance toward current eLearning environment implemented so far. This paper investigates what efforts have been made so far to implement eLearning and LORs technologies in Saudi Arabia; and suggests what is required from participants in the higher educational institutions to link these technologies to education and pedagogy practices based on an integrated knowledge management system with eLearning to creatively create and exchange new knowledge localized in LORs.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127591157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most image reconstruction algorithms neglects the nonlinear characteristic and use instead a linearized sensitivity approach to solve the non-linear problem, affecting the accuracy of the reconstructed image. In this study, we used feed-forward neural network to solve the non-linear forward problem to replace the linearized sensitivity matrix. The reconstruction process uses an iterative linear back projection technique. Comparison results showed considerable improvement on the image reconstruction of the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126191068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the start of the use of technology in education, the approach gained a lot of attention from the education sectors, and has been applied across many areas in the academic field. The idea is to support the acceptance of the technology implementation by modifying TAM model with the pre-acknowledgement of technology users using an additional element. This additional element should serve to increase the motivation level of instructors and students alike. Moreover, it should grow the need for using modern technology in the education environment. The result of these changes should be to spur on those resistant to the adoption of technology to adopt and incorporate it into their systems.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"339 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123107591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spam is any unwanted and harmful mail. Separation of spam from normal mails is essential. This paper surveys different spam filtering techniques, Support Vector Machine (SVM) training problems and need to introduce MapReduce Hadoop to train SVM. Techniques to separate spam mails are word based, content based, machine learning based and hybrid. Machine learning techniques are most popular because of high accuracy and mathematical support. SVM is the mostly used machine learning based technique in the spam filtering process because its ability to handle data with large attribute. Hurdles in training of SVM are, large time requirement and large dataset can't be given as an input. These both problems can be solved by implementing the training algorithm on MapReduce (Hadoop) framework which gives up to 6 times speedup than sequential algorithm.","PeriodicalId":118511,"journal":{"name":"2014 Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Aided System Engineering (APCASE)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132132907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
