It shows that the ring laser has two emission characteristic spectrums, a single mode emission at 652.86nm and a multi-modes emission at around 652.24nm by injection current of 70mA. Results of light-injection current measurements are presented to reveal the mechanism of modes hopping of laser outputs due to interaction between these two resonators. Since topology control may increase the end-to-end delay, one of the criterion's that should be considered in topology control algorithms is restricting delay. Existing works utilized hop count measure for delay; yet hop count is not a suitable criterion for delay measurement because the delay is dependent on many factors such as propagation and contention delay. We introduced an appropriate measure for the end-to-end delay computation and present a novel delay-constraint topology control algorithm (NDTC). Kaewplung","doi":"10.1109/WOCC.2012.6198174","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WOCC.2012.6198174","url":null,"abstract":"This paper proposes an algorithm for the employment of dispersion-compensating units (DCUs) and for the employment of polarization-mode-dispersion compensators (PMDCs) on 40-Gbps-per-channel-based wavelength-routed optical fiber network. The algorithm can be used for both non-slope compensated (NS)-DCU and slope-compensated (SC)-DCU. We use the optical pan-European network (OPEN) as a sample network. By applying our algorithms, we show that only the NS-DCUs cannot be only used for the OPEN due to the over and under compensation. However, we demonstrate that the employment of only SC-DCUs, whose number is 108 units, is capable for achieving all the light paths using all wavelengths in c band to be well below dispersion limit. Moreover, in case of single link failure, OPEN with path protection requires 220 units SC-DCU. We also show the possibility of employing the combination of NS-DCUs and SC-DCUs in OPEN. In this case, the required total number of DCUs is only 67 units. For the employment of PMDC, it is not needed to be installed in OPEN. For the PMD compensation, we show that the OPEN does not need the PMD compensation. This work presents a low complexity time-domain statistic noise suppression and hierarchical beam search algorithm to improve performance in receivers. For SIMO-OFDM systems, the complexity of the hierarchical beam search algorithm is O(n2log2n). This work proposes a simple hierarchical beam search to find the best steering vector. Through performance evaluation, the BER performance is significantly improved with about 3dB under 10^-5 BER in the case that L1=6 and L2=2 compared to that in the case L1=4 and L2=2. Besides, the BER performance is already quietly close to that achieved by the ideal beamform in the case of L1=6 and L2=4. This setting is a good choice which achieves a good tradeoff between the performance and the computational complexity. For this, it can offer several benefits, such as high levels of sharing of computing resources, ubiquitous availability, and savings on hardware investment. Although it has been claimed that host virtualization can also offer the benefit of energy savings, the levels of savings are unknown. In this paper, we present experimental evaluations of energy expenditure of virtual machines used for computation processes. We measure the energy spent by a number of virtual machines and compare it to the energy spent by a single and multiple (real) Linux hosts. The results show that the virtual machines deliver similar performance to processes run in real machines for small loads, and achieve significant energy savings for a modest number of users. Therefore, it is then expected that there is a number of VMs for what energy savings is optimal.
