{"title":"Analysis of macro-, micro- and mediostructures in sports dictionaries","authors":"D. Omrčen","doi":"10.21857/94kl4cz5pm","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21857/94kl4cz5pm","url":null,"abstract":"The aim in this research was to analyse the convenience sample comprised of 87 mono-, biand multilingual sports dictionaries in terms of their macro-, microand mediostructures. The results showed that an alphabetical organisation of the lemmas prevailed rather than a systematic (i.e. thematic) arrangement, and it was the predominant choice in monolingual dictionaries. Most dictionaries in the sample had a complex macrostructure. This macrostructural complexity appeared to be inversely proportional to the number of languages in the terminological reference work – namely, the more languages included in a dictionary, the lower its macrostructural complexity. Further, the definition article structure format – be it with or without any supplementary information – was the most frequent of all the article structures and was by far the most recurrent in monolingual dictionaries. A translation equivalent in a target language as the only component of an article was a dominant article structure format in multilingual dictionaries. In general, the most commonly included grammatical data were on word class and the number in nouns, whereas additional information included in articles varied from diatechnical labels, different kinds of restrictions in terms of usage, historic backgrounds, etymology, the first use of terms, etc. Ultimately, the cross-referencing system was most frequently applied in monolingual dictionaries.","PeriodicalId":117043,"journal":{"name":"Filologija : časopis Razreda za filološke znanosti Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123522702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The verbs are distributed into three major groups based on their transitivity. Further subgroups are established on the linking of experiencer with a certain syntactic position, i. e. with the function of a subject, direct object and indirect object (which syntactic function realizes a thematic role of experiencer). The morphological form of experiencers and non-experiencer arguments are analyzed in detail for each subgroup of psychological verbs. The most numerous subgroup among 57 psychological verbs is the group, which has both reflexive and transitive variant. Their transitive variant belongs to Object Experiencer Verbs (brinuti (se) ‘worry (self)’, čuditi (se) ‘wonder (self)’, ljutiti (se) ‘anger (self)’). The syntactic behavior of these verbs is also analyzed in detail in this paper. Although the classification of psychological verbs suggested here is established on the basis of verbs extracted from Valencijski rječnik psiholoških glagola u hrvatskome jeziku (Valency dictionary of psychological verbs in the Croatian language) and the verbs processed here are mostly from that dictionary, at the end of the paper there is a comprehensive list of all verbs with accusative or dative experiencer in the Croatian language which the authors collected so far.
