As a result, the number of objective function evaluations is often very limited and presents a major hurdle for optimization. Previous works on a new framework known as ordinal transformation (OT) provides a method that makes use of a low-fidelity approximate model to speed up optimization. The effectiveness of OT depends crucially on the accuracy of the predictions by the approximate model. In this paper, we study how to improve the quality of the predictions when there are two or more low-fidelity models. We set up an optimization formulation that allows us to identify the optimal linear combination of multiple low-fidelity model outputs to improve the quality of the prediction. Preliminary numerical experiments demonstrate that the new method is very effective and can lead to significant improvement.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130532770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our proposed interface uses not only conventional translational human motion but also twisting motion, namely it makes full use of the human motion characteristics. The basic experimental results also showed that this interface has a potential to realize intuitive operation. However, the problems also remained: there was a case that user feels a difficulty on operation due to low repeatability of the human motion. The experiment was conducted to investigate the repeatability of the human motion, when user return to the initial position (neutral position) on the saddle type interface. The results showed followings conclusions of this paper: Human cannot discriminate less than 17% of the maximum leaning angle around neutral position. Human motion is low repeatability and is not good at precise position control motion. The repeatability in case of Motion (leaning backward and return) is lower than any other motions.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132905718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The efficiency, size and system performance are the main factors of the HVDC converter stations which directly affect the converter performance end-cost. Replacing conventional half-bridge (HB) cells by full-bridge (FB) cells in the MMC arms offers new features such as the dc fault blocking capability for grid-connected voltage source converters (VSC) at the cost of higher number of devices and conduction losses. However, practical implementation of FB MMC has not been fully discussed so far. In this paper, the implementation challenges of FB MMC is addressed in both steady-state and dynamic operation modes of a point-to-point HVDC link. The work is supported with the analysis of design arguments for a realistic converter station.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130849899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, because the manipulation of deformable objects by robots is generally difficult to achieve, such automation has progressed little. The insertion task involved in the formation of rubber hoses is an example of such a task. In the two stages of this study, to automate the rubber hose insertion task, two end effectors for a dual-arm robot and an integrated end effector for a single-arm robot were developed, along with their corresponding manipulation plans. The hose insertion task was successfully performed by both robots.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125345175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been disclosed that instantaneous current profiling technique is one of the effective solution to obtain flat torque waveform in SR motor. In the proposed control, the current reference profile are calculated based on torque-current-rotor position (T-i-θ) characteristic model which takes nonlinearity and spatial harmonics into account. 2D-FEA based analytical studies using 12/8 poles 3-phase SR motor reveals the relationship between the maximum order of spatial harmonics included in magnetizing curve model to create T-i-θ characteristic model and the control performance. Finally, this paper presents two approaches to achieve precise torque control under instantaneous current profiling technique in SR motor.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126678171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those trends point to the increased development of devices to support human. A device that involves any contact with people must be safe, lightweight, and flexible. Therefore, we developed a device using a pneumatic cylinder to support a patient's upper limb motion. This supporting device has three modes corresponding to living activity support mode, rehabilitation and meal support. We designed control systems for these modes. We describe construction of our device and details of support functions. Then we use some experiments to evaluate function control systems. Results show that each control system provides good performance for supporting devices.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122189352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To increase the safety of the infants, we matched different emergent research fields for the development of Baby Night Watch. This Smart Wearable System (SWS), developed under the context of the European Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge (TIIC) 2015, is composed by the following elements: a Wearable IoT Device, a Gateway and the H Medical Interface. The Wearable IoT Device is a wireless sensor node integrated in a Chest Belt, and it has the capacity to monitor the following parameters: body temperature, heart and breathing rates and body position. After a minimal data processing, this set of information is sent to the Gateway, via ZigBee technology, and it is accessible to the user through the H Medical Interface. If a critical event occurs, the device will trigger an alarm, visible and audible in the proximity, and sends a distress message to a mobile application. The Baby Night Watch is an important tool for medical studies, since it allows the visualization of previous physiological data and export it to different types of datasets. Experimental tests have proven that the SWS has the potential to identify situations that could be potentially life-threatening for an infant.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126103337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this proposed strategy the output DC voltage of the converter can be bidirectional (i.e. both positive and negative) and can be varied to a value higher than the peak input voltage (boost), or to a value lower than the peak input voltage (buck). A simple synchronous reference frame control using level shifted PWM is used. Capacitors are balanced using sorting algorithm. The proposed strategy is implemented in simulation using MATLAB. A potential application of the converter is the development of small DC power supplies producing variable DC voltage from zero to a high value. Also it can be used in DC drives.","PeriodicalId":116715,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"30 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114131429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
