To sustainable development, overcome and minimize insecticide use, evaluation of chemical insecticide (malathion) alone or combined with Gamma radiation (20Gy) was used to control cowpea beetle occurred. Radiation was applied before the chemical treatment. The results indicate there is no different effect of using insecticide alone or insecticide combined with Gamma radiation in parents, while in F1 the results indicated that there is a significant difference within days after treatment. Different concentrations of insecticide were used as well as different methods of treatment (P. value was 0.000 in all of them). Generally, when comparing means of all treatment types with the non-radiated treatment of F1, we can arrange the type of treatment according to potency as the following: an insecticide with the radiated treatment of F1 >insecticide with non-radiated and radiated of parents > radiated treatment only of parent> insecticide only of F1. Thus, the author recommended using of insecticide and Gamma rays’ combination in cowpea beetle’s control.","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. The percentage of explained variance was 38 and 84 % during the two seasons, respectively. For Empoasica spp, in the first season, the population of insect density was significantly correlated for minimum temperature, while, in 2022 season population was significant with RH% and predators. Plant age was a significant effect on the population fluctuations of A. craccivora and Empoasica spp during the second season . The percentage of Explained variance for the effect of climatic factors, and biotic factors on Empoasica spp were 75 and 74 % during the two seasons, respectively. This research aims to utilize the obtained results in developing the IPM programs against the main faba bean insect pests through activation of the effect of temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity on insect numbers.","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. Systematic sampling was carried out on 1924 cashew trees distributed in 10 orchards in the departments of Bondoukou and Bouna in the North-East of Côte d'Ivoire, from July 2018 to June 2020. Climatic data were recorded over this period. The first individuals of A. terebrans were observed in July in the rainy season; peak numbers were reached in November-December in the dry season, before decreasing considerably in January and becoming nil in March-April. Individuals were significantly more abundant at cashew flowering. Significant differences were observed between the abundances within and between departments and from year to year. Simple regression analyses showed that temperature favours the growth of pest populations, while rainfall and hygrometry are unfavourable. This study contributes to the effective control of A. terebrans , and provides insights into the determinants of the variability of A. terebrans infestations from one orchard to another.","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. The present work aims to offer a comprehensive view of antioxidant activity of the destructive pest, the cotton leaf worm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.). The level of four antioxidant enzymes namely, Catalase (CAT), Phenoloxidase (PO), Peroxidase (POX) and Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) have been assessed throughout the insect developmental stages. Generally, the late larval stages hold most of the antioxidant activity in all tested enzymes while the adult showed the least ones. Catalase was completely absent during egg stage while both PO and POX showed a similar trend of activity. The overall results showed a stage-specific antioxidant enzyme activities and we concluded that S. littoralis possess an efficient antioxidant enzyme system which able to withstand oxidative challenges and overcome oxidative stress threat. This study is an essential step in elucidating how antioxidant system develops with age in S. littoralis and eventually how can we make use of these information in future in insect control.","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. A total of 26 spider species belonging to 20 genera and 10 families of order Araneae were associated with the two aphids, A. craccivora and R. maidis, on the broad bean and maize at the site of study in 2017 and 2018. About 50% of the collected species were common spiders associated with each of the two aphid species on its host crop. Generally, the total spiders of the collected families on the broad bean and maize crops started appearing with relatively small numbers in January and May, gradually increased in parallel with those of the associated aphid species to reach peaks in March and August, then the numbers of both were decreased at the end of the crop season in April and September, respectively during each year of the study.","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. On the antennae of L. invasa , sensilla were dispersed in six different types, while on the antennae of O. maskelli , they were placed in nine different types. According to this study, O. maskelli had more sensilla overall than L. invasa ; along the antenna, O. maskelli had 100 sensilla compared to L. invasa more than 37 sensilla. The results from the measured biological characteristics were explained by the qualitative and quantitative differences in the sensilla types of the two species on the antenna, favouring O. Maskelli . The results tended to show that O. Maskelli was the strongest rival that could displace L. invasa .","PeriodicalId":11424,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences.
