The service recovery paradox is the suggestion that a service recovery may result in a higher intent to return and/or overall satisfaction than if a problem had not been experienced. The double deviation refers to the significant negative effect on intent to return and/or overall satisfaction from a failed recovery effort. Both of these phenomena have been debated in previous research using either experimental design or a single problem type sample. This work is the first to address the phenomena using a large sample problem type approach. The results indicate that the service recovery paradox does not exist “in total” but does present itself on a specific problem type. The double deviation is shown to more severe for certain problem types than for others.","PeriodicalId":113459,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hotel & Business Management","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115291489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the literature on work-family conflict and turnover intention is quite extensive, previous research has not examined the resource gains and social support as moderators by relating these with work-family conflict and turnover intentions. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of work-family conflict and family-work conflict on turnover intentions by considering family supportive supervisor behavior as a moderator. Hypothesizes of this research is that the perceived family supportive supervisor behavior moderates the relationship between work-family and family-work conflict on turnover intentions. Sample data is collected from 250 respondent doctors working in the hospitals of two major cities in Pakistan which lack in supervisor support and where tough schedules are followed. Demographic variables and correlation analysis was conducted to identify work-family conflict, family-work conflict and turnover intentions. Multiple regression analysis was applied to empirically test the proposed hypotheses and process macro test run for moderation. Reliability of each part of instrument was calculated which was in acceptable range. Experimental analysis of the research verifies the hypothesis that there is a buffering effect of family supportive supervisor behavior on the relationship of work-family and family-work conflict regarding turnover intentions. To illustrate the proposed framework, theoretical and practical implications are discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":113459,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hotel & Business Management","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117138147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to UNWTO, it can double its contribution to worlds output, increases job by 33% and capital investment can jump by 80%. India has a distinctive culture and way of life, there is amazing cultural diversity throughout the country. Every state has carved out its own cultural niche. Unlike other export industries, there is comparatively little investment needed for promoting tourism. The scope for its expansion is unlimited. It is an industry, a source of income, especially of foreign exchange and an exercise in national image building. Government of India felt the importance of hospitality education and under the umbrella of ministry of tourism set up IHMs and ITTMs. IHMs were set up to cater the manpower demand in the field of catering and hotels. Similarly, ITTMs were dealing with manpower requirement in travel and tourism. Values and culture are inculcated in normal Indian since childhood hence automatically becomes inbuilt component of hospitality education. This gives Indian hospitality graduates broader horizon towards the trade and opens scope of their employment globally. Institute-industry interface existed in form of industrial exposure and other short term training programs as part of curriculum. There is a need of educational and administrative reforms in hospitality institutes, teaching and research. Teacher’s perks and pays are to be made comparable to other sector to attract better talent in hospitality education. There is lot of scope of research and projects on various aspects of hotels. There could be very innovative, meaningful and useful for society as well as Industry. So, Higher education and research bodies are required to recognize it as important and potential area for study. Accordingly, encouragement in form of financial-funding and support is the need of the hour.","PeriodicalId":113459,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hotel & Business Management","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125885556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a management tool that has the objective of increasing sale revenues by manipulating the prices at which fixed products in the hotels are made available for sale in relation to the current and forecasted demand. This paper focus on the design and implementation of mathematical model, of the type of linear programming, which will help the revenue managers in the hospitality industry to manage their revenue to enable the hotel’s maximized their contributions. This model becomes necessary today in the hospitality industry, because of the complex decisions facing the hotel’s manager as regarding what product to produce, quantity of the product and services to produce such product and so on. How this model could be applied in the food and beverages department in the hospitality industry was demonstrated. The paper also illustrated the skill of who is to be a revenue manager in the hospitality sector. The paper concludes and recommends that if the model is adopted, it will improve the sector revenue generation among others and reduce wastage, if not totally eliminated in the foods and beverages departments.","PeriodicalId":113459,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hotel & Business Management","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114342100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A survey was used for data collection. An information table was set up at the entrance to the cafe. Interested customers voluntarily visited the table to receive a brief introduction to the study and paper surveys. One group participants received menus with nutrition information, while the other group received the cafe’s regular menu, which includes no nutrition information. The first part of the survey instrument consisted of items assessing participants’ knowledge about healthy food (Know), the perception of the importance of respondents’ knowledge (ImKnow), attitude (ATT), subjective norm (SN), perceived behavioral control (PBC), and intention (INT) toward healthy food consumption. The second section included measurement items designed to assess salient beliefs and referents regarding healthy food consumption. The last section consisted of questions related to participants’ social demographic information. Descriptive analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and multi-group structural equation modeling were used in the study. Most participants’ ATT (β=0.442; p<0.001), PBC (β=0.386; p<0.001), and SN (β=0.267; p<0.001) were significantly related to behavioral intention, while PBC (β=0.225; p=0.019) was not significantly related to INT for participants in the regular menu group.
