In this paper, the characteristics of an S0 mode plate-wave converted to an L(0,2) mode pipe-wave was investigated due to their similar dispersion and wave structure properties. The assumption was initially proposed that the L(0,2) mode pipe-wave could be converted from the corresponding S0 mode plate-wave based on a plate wrapped around a pipe. The equivalent model of a plate array coupled to a pipe was then presented in which the analytical solution to the propagation characteristics of the S0-wave was investigated. Based on the dispersion curve, the effects of the material and the thickness ratio were both studied, which indicated that the L(0,2)-wave can be successfully converted when the similar material and the low thickness ratio are selected.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131053014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Model classification is a critical process for online monitoring. Visibility graph (VG) is proposed to transform the model signal into network graph. The topology characteristics of network graph are taken as the new features, and are put into support vector machine (SVM). Three categories dataset consisting of A0 model signal, S0 model signal and the noise signal are considered in this paper. The optimal VG-SVM model is constructed when 13 degrees of cumulative degree distribution are selected. The classification accuracy of optimal VG-SVM model is 95.9%, which is higher than LDA-SVM, PCA-SVM and SVM with the same defect dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the visibility graph could extract more model information for SVM classifier.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127948160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To improve detection efficiency, the selection of excitation frequency for SPUTs is extremely significant. Based on the PSpice lossy model of SPUT, the effect of acoustic load on the electromechanical characteristics of SPUTs was investigated in time and frequency domains in this paper. It is shown that the primary resonance frequencies are shifted and the SPUT generate multiple resonant modes when different length aluminum rods are connected. In addition, the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient and the vibration velocity on the front surface of the aluminum rod are decreased under acoustic load. It can be concluded that the simulated analyzed results are in good agreement with the measured ones.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130998984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both reasons make it difficult to analyze the signal. This work reports the design of an axially magnetized magnetostrictive patch transducer (MPT) for efficient transduction of longitudinal guided wave, which can be used to detect defects in concrete-covered pipe risers. First, the theoretical background about demagnetizing field was introduced. The influence of the demagnetizing factors on the transducer efficient was discussed. Second, there kinds of existed MPTs were compared with the proposed smart MPT. In the comparison experiments of defect detection in concreted-covered pipe risers, the developed smart MPT performed better than those three MPTs. Finally, the smart MPT was applied in a defect detection of concrete-covered pipe riser sample. The experimental results for the smart MPT showed that the smart MPT can potentially be applied in pipe’s defect detection.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128734940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The BOSS weld failure may lead to borated water leakage, and it will probably affect the safety of the equipment in the pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants (PWRs). In this study, causes of BOSS weld failures were studied first. Then through the technique features of radiographic inspection, an applicable inspection technique for BOSS welds in PWRs was summarized. Combining the experience feedback of BOSS weld failures at home and abroad, a useful maintenance solution was proposed. In the end, some feasible suggestions for improving the quality of BOSS welds were established from the point of views of design process, welding process and inspection process.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134464286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the signals are so weak that they are easily submerged in the noise. So, the pulse compression technology is applied to raise the signal to noise ratio and lift-off distance effectively. The barker sequences are set as transmitting pulse in the measurement system, the received signals are processed with pulse compression in the experiments. By comparing the performances of barker code with single pulse requiring high levels average filtering, the signal to noise ratio is highly improved. The 5 × 13 combined barker sequence performs best among the different combined barker sequences. Its signal to noise ratio reaches 20.11 dB and the maximum lift-off is up to 3.0 mm due to the increasement of the total transmission power.","PeriodicalId":113185,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116923798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
