It is argued in this paper that besides driving the modeling of learner interaction, the pedagogical model is a key aspect in modeling the system as a whole. This paper presents a proposal to define and present learner interaction based on problem-based learning. Though the proposed process has been used only in academic context, the preliminary use has indicated its potential of use in real contexts.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130135454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning is a two-way communication and interactivity is a process to enhance communication among instructors, learners, learning materials, and interfaces. However, little studies exist regarding the effect of WBI interactivity on learners' performances and attitude. This research examines how different degrees of WBI interactivity influence learners' attitude, satisfaction, and performance in using the WBI systems. The results provide useful applications for WBI designers and instructors.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133917648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, it consists of an assessment function that utilizes a learner's process of answering a question. The function can extract event data generated by each learner during an answering process to a question of a test given by PC via a digital pen, and it analyzes the event data in order to extract a learner's answering process and pattern. Using this system, each learner can look back at their answering process in addition to look over the final answer. As a result, study efficiency is expected to be improved. Furthermore, the teacher or tutor can create custom-made content for each learner according to the answering process of each learner.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134485053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cyber Person is a human shaped software robot using 3DCG and speech synthesis technologies. This system includes 3DCG stage, many kinds of stage parts (3DCG shaped models, photographs or text panels) and Cyber Person(s). Because Cyber Person acts as a virtual teacher, we named it Cyber Assistant Professor (CAP). The educational contents of CAP can be written by Script Language named Cyber Person Scenario Language 2 (CPSL2). CPSL2 is a tag-based hypertext language like a HTML, which describes a scenario of 3DCG interactive animation. CAP Browser converts this scenario file to the realtime interactive 3DCG animation, which is not a rendering movie. CAP can instruct the educational subject by using body action, facial expression and voice speaking. And many stage parts also can move simultaneously corresponding to the CAP's instruction. Sometimes, CAP shows the question to the learner and learner has to answer by clicking the specified stage parts, e.g. selects the correct answer or enters the number. Consequently, CAP can change the scenario of 3DCG animation or load the external scenario file. By using CAP system, we have developed some teaching materials for elementary school pupils. This paper describes the detail of CAP system and CPSL2.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114586367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The project involves using ICTs to provide learner support and expand access to a print-based, correspondence style teacher education program (DTEP) that has been delivered by the National Institute for Education, Samste, since 1995. In January 2005 four modules were revised to include ICT support through the use of the Moodle open source learning management system. Later in 2005 the use of ICTs in this program will be evaluated to determine their effectiveness in terms of improving quality and access. This paper discusses the proposed research and some of the local issues that affect the implementation of this project.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124090630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eventually, a set of 53 metadata elements has been developed as a LOM-based application profile for Taiwan K9 e-learning resources, and two guidelines are also produced for metadata system implementation and cataloguing. Furthermore, three findings are presented as follows. (1) The LOMAP implied the LOM has attained a high acceptance in Taiwan K9 e-learning community. (2) The Taiwan K9 LOMAP covers functional requirements of element attributes, such as mandatory or optional, for system development. (3) A challenge in controlled vocabulary for interoperability among different LOMAPs emerges. Finally, this study suggests that the Taiwan K9 LOMAP would be a ground to further include more samples and domains, in order to become a Taiwan LOM Core.","PeriodicalId":113056,"journal":{"name":"Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT'05)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124627578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
