LSVP volunteers have different backgrounds, expectations, skills, and training while working in stressful situations that affect not only their ministry but the different aspects of their personal lives and well-being. Thus, this phenomenological study provided a description of the experiences of nine LSVP Volunteers assigned in Bataan, Iligan, and Samar communities and identified the possible implications of their experiences to their personal well-being. Following Moustakas’ suggestions of doing phenomenological study, five themes were identified: namely, challenges, community life, sense of purpose, happiness, and transformation. Among these themes, sense of purpose was central in their experiences. It is the source of the volunteers’ commitment to their mission and pushed them forward despite all the challenges and difficulties and provides meaning and joy to what they are doing that eventually led them towards a process of transformation as Lasallian volunteers. Spirituality and community life were also highlighted in their experiences. Finally, this study recommends revisiting the existing program and provide a permanent leader who can focus on the program and look after the welfare of the volunteers.","PeriodicalId":112807,"journal":{"name":"Academia Lasalliana Journal of Education and Humanities","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131786053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lasallian Spirituality and mission is deeply rooted in the spiritual experience of the Founder. This study attempted to understand how Signum Fidei members live out the Lasallian mission and spirituality. This is a phenomenological study which examined the lived experiences of five (5) participants who were chosen from different Lasallian schools in the Philippines – DLSU – Dasmarinas, DLS – Health and Science Institute, DLS – Zobel, De La Salle Greenhills, and DLS – Lipa. The study determined the first thematic reflections as fruits of significant stories, experiences, thoughts, description. Five (5) thematic reflections emerged from individual structural descriptions: Responding to the Call of Communion and Service; A Faith that should be nurtured and shared; A Gifted to Give; Walking extra miles; and A living and Sustaining Commitment. An eidetic insight revealed that “Upholding the Lasallian Spirituality and Mission is both a Vocation and a Commitment.” A symbolic representation was drawn to serve as a creative synthesis. Signum Fidei members live out their Lasallian vocation as they become living witnesses of how one’s faith moved them to work with zeal in their Lasallian Ministry believing that they are one in mind and heart in the fulfillment of Lasallian Ministry.","PeriodicalId":112807,"journal":{"name":"Academia Lasalliana Journal of Education and Humanities","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130692958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using diagnostic and achievement test results, the researcher determined if this method improved learning performance. The data was categorized, tabulated, and analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Mean and standard deviation were used to compare control and experimental groups, and the t-test was used to compare pretest and posttest scores. Both groups improved after completing the online module. As a result, the experimental group outperformed the control group. The control group’s pre- and post-tests differ significantly. Mean and standard deviation differed significantly for the experimental group. Although, the differences in scores between the control and experimental groups are not statistically significant. Identifying their learning style aided the experimental group in comprehending the module that appeared in the data. Overall, VARK Model Learning Style participants improved. The experimental group performed better the control.","PeriodicalId":112807,"journal":{"name":"Academia Lasalliana Journal of Education and Humanities","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115816030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"The Role of Play in the Rehabilitation and Development of Abused and Neglected Children: A Case Study","authors":"Vangie Montillano, Kepha Pondi","doi":"10.55902/ghxb8928","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.55902/ghxb8928","url":null,"abstract":"Play is the lifeblood of children. Unfortunately, many children in today’s world stay inactive or are engaged in indirect forms of play. Furthermore, children who have experienced abuse or neglect are often withdrawn from constructive play. Limited studies have explored the role of play in the lives of abused children in rehabilitation centers in the Philippines. This case study used psychoanalytic and Piaget’s cognitive theories of play to explore the role of play in the rehabilitation of children who have experienced abuse and are now in a rehabilitation center. Purposeful sampling was used to select 10 participants. Data were collected through interviews and were analyzed thematically. The emerging themes show that play helped the abused and neglected children cope with trauma and unpleasant emotions, and that play provided holistic development that included sense of self-worth, positive thinking, and cognitive, physical, creative and social skills. The study suggests the need for research-based play facilities and the employment of play therapists in the rehabilitation center.","PeriodicalId":112807,"journal":{"name":"Academia Lasalliana Journal of Education and Humanities","volume":"317 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132162332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is expected that they exercise vigilance while performing their duties. They are the implementers of law. However, police image continues to deteriorate because some of them are involved in criminal acts like drug trafficking, hold-upping, kidnapping, robbery, et al. For this reason, this study was conducted to revisit the work values and morale of selected police officers in the province of Cavite. The specific research questions were: (1) What are the very important work values of the respondents; (2) What is the level of their morale? and (3) Is there a significant relationship between the respondents’ very important work values and their level of morale? The study used descriptive-correlational quantitative research design. It involved 449 selected police officers from the province of Cavite. They were chosen purposively using the following criterion: must have been in the service for three years and above. The study revealed ten very important work values of the police and they had high morale to very high morale. It also revealed that there was a significant relationship between work values and morale. The findings of the study led to the conclusion that the police respondents considered these values as their guiding principle in performing their role as policemen.","PeriodicalId":112807,"journal":{"name":"Academia Lasalliana Journal of Education and Humanities","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127754215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
