To implement a system able to cope with all requirements, it is necessary to combine the KBS with numeric computations. Such a system can be partitioned into four subsystems: the goal-driven part, the event-driven part, regular computations and special computations. The authors identify and discuss the purpose and the functionality of each of these. They also discuss the way the subsystems interact with each other, and how to implement such a system.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124836253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inference engine uses a frame description language to execute a production system. Part retrieval rules are provided hierarchically and executed by the production system. When the system retrieves a software part by part retrieval rules, it retrieves the signal defined in the part from the input output signals, customizes the part, and creates an intermediate program, which is converted to a program in the target programmable controller's language. The system was applied to the creation of control programs for gradually cooling equipment in a wire and rod mill plant.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123030111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They describe how Honeywell research results improve on previous manual techniques by using heuristic model feature selection and reduce the need for train-by-showing images by substituting synthetic imagery. Particular, attention is given to efforts to construct an automated modeling system which develops 2-D part recognition models without the use of the online vision system and which requires only minimal operator expertise. The focus has been on two key components of this automated model building system; automated feature selection and ranking, and synthetic image generation. The value of these advances is discussed, along with an assessment of future research needs.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123698200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system provides the substation operators with the results of diagnosis and necessary guidance. The system is provided with an event-driven reasoning system which flexibly changes the flow of reasoning in response to the events or changes in the state of the electric power system. To realize this event-driven reasoning, the system is composed of multiple inference modules centered around a blackboard. To verify the operation of the expert system on a real-time basis, a prototype of the expert system was connected with a simulator which simulates a power system and its faults.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124209784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A connectionist expert system approach to fault diagnosis in the presence of noise and redundancy 一种连接专家系统方法用于噪声和冗余情况下的故障诊断

{"title":"A connectionist expert system approach to fault diagnosis in the presence of noise and redundancy","authors":"S. I. Gallant","doi":"10.1109/AIIA.1988.13263","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AIIA.1988.13263","url":null,"abstract":"The author differentiates between physical redundancy involving duplicate measurements of the same quantity and analytical redundancy involving the behavior of a collection of sensors measuring different quantities. If there are a finite number of possible faults, if each fault has a known set of ideal instrument readings (in the absence of noise), and if a model of the noise is available, then analytical redundancy relationships exist. The task of constructing expert systems for problems involving noise and redundancy is then considered. The author reviews an automated method for constructing diagnostic expert systems (MACIE). This approach is based on machine learning techniques for connectionist network models and is well suited for noisy problems. The main advantage of the MACIE system is that it only requires training examples of desired behavior to generate the final expert system. Moreover, this approach takes advantage implicitly of both types of redundancy, without the need for explicit probabilistic analysis.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125423723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FAD consists of three distinct subsystems: the conceptual level, which is the methodological level; the second level, which is for planning and intertool usage; and the local intelligent tools level. The novel aspect of the system is the introduction of a dynamic aspect in the classical knowledge base and a way of verifying consistency and integrity of data. Also presented is a variant of the blackboard architecture, involving the transformation of the triggering agent in the methodological level.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128751617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MOBY was developed using the expert system environment/VM shell. The purpose of MOBY is to provide a framework for the make-or-buy decision and to allow a site developer to customize MOBY's generic knowledge base for a given location. This customizing is necessary because each make or buy decision is site- and product-specific. The customization is done by the addition and/or modification of focus control blocks, rules, and site-specific database.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129187420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The accuracy of the algorithm has been improved to select candidates which are the most likely to be the real origin of failure, utilizing the time when the measured variable begins to show abnormality as the representation of the dynamic characteristic of the measured variable. It captures knowledge of image-processing procedures through interaction between the domain expert and the system. The authors discuss the method and its features: stimulative interview and rule generalization. A stimulative way of interviewing using analogical reasoning reduces the difficulty for the expert to elicit deeply and unconsciously embedded knowledge. The process of decomposing a successful sequence of image processing by the expert creates generalized rules in a natural manner.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":112397,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131817308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
