Not only be able to write factual information, but also have a good public speaking skills. However, there are still many journalists who do not master public speaking so they often face some obstacles. They are proficient at finding information in the field, but are nervous or insecure when dealing with other people or sources, so the interviews become unstructured and directed. A journalist is also often asked to be a speaker in a seminar, training, or workshop, but since they are not used to speak in public, the presentation of the material becomes less interesting. In fact, journalism is a profession that is expected to be at the forefront of society who must be able to speak loudly, truthfully, honestly, and courageously. Having good public speaking skills can increase the confidence of journalists in conveying information and ideas, as well as providing education and motivation. Because public speaking is an important competency, the Communication Department held a community service activity entitled \"Public Speaking Training in Increasing Journalist Competence in Surabaya\" on 13th and 20th October 2022, at Urban Office Surabaya. The training was attended by journalists who are members of the Friends of Education Journalists (JSP) community.","PeriodicalId":111399,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Layanan Masyarakat (Journal of Public Services)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122014339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lime is a type of plant that is widely grown in the area. With a lime garden area of 450 hectares, lime farmers in this area can produce an average of 2-3 tons of lime per month per hectare. Lime from this sub-district has also reached local and international markets, such as Malaysia and Singapore. The community also develops or processes lime into processed products that have higher economic value, for example processed into processed beverage products in the form of liquids, extracts, instant powders, or processed into belt products, cosmetics and so on. On the other hand, technological developments that are rapidly developing can basically be used to increase the marketability of limes, such as processing lime peels into more useful products, not just lime contents. Nanotechnology can be used to produce lime peel powder with a nanometer size using a tool called a ball mill and grinder. The process of making lime peel nanopowder using a ball mill is very simple. This tool has also been developed a lot so the price is also cheap. For this reason, the community service activities is carried out to provide education to lime farmers in the Ujung Pangkah sub-district, Gresik to process lime peels into powder and make it possible to obtain nanopowder which has high selling value and or produces processed lime into other products. The expected output is lime peel processed products into powders of various sizes, one of which is nanometer with a lime peel powder maker, in this case a ball mill and grinder with simple operations and low prices. In simple terms, especially large powders can be used as additional ingredients for spices, even tea mixtures. This community service activity can support the 12th point of the Sustainable Development Goals in promoting zero waste, namely responsible consumption and production; as well as on point 8, namely decent work and economic growth in encouraging the formation of MSMEs to utilize processed orange peels to increase their economic value. Thus, we also believe that the community service would not only increase the lime home industry in Bolo village significantly, but also increase awareness of the community about the environmental sustainability.","PeriodicalId":111399,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Layanan Masyarakat (Journal of Public Services)","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124379098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was done as an effort to promote Pulau Santen as one of the best natural tourism centers in Banyuwangi. The community in Pulau Santen must be prepared as a group that is aware of the potential of their village and the sustainability of its natural tourism. Pulau Santen is also categorized as a location which every year frequently used for sea turtle nests that land on the Banyuwangi coastal areas. This is actually very contrary to the natural habits of sea turtles which prefer to make nests in quiet places without any disturbance from sound, light, and humans. Because the place used as a natural nest is a busy tourist spot, local residents must also be given insight regarding the protection of sea turtles that land on the coast of Pulau Santen as one of the wild animals protected by the Conservation Law in Indonesia. The purpose of this activity is to strengthen the awareness of Pulau Santen tourism awareness groups regarding the important role of communities around the coast to participate in wildlife conservation and their ecosystems. Through the community service activities that have been carried out, the sustainability of the program is needed so that a model of a conservation education tourist spot is formed that has the potential to improve the economy of the surrounding communities and the conservation of biodiversity in the area.","PeriodicalId":111399,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Layanan Masyarakat (Journal of Public Services)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132899760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem with partners is the need to strengthen tourism institutions and expand the marketing of MSME products including herbal medicine villages, flora villages selling ornamental plants, and so on. Wonolopo has 10 tourism awareness groups from 8 thematic villages. The solution to the partner problem is the transfer of knowledge of tourism institutional development. There are three choices of institutional forms, namely tourism awareness groups, cooperatives and BUMDesa. The solution to the second problem is information and communication technology-based marketing with Linktree which is shared on social media and using digital marketing platforms. The results achieved after the community service was carried out were that 98.3% of MSME actors and tourism managers in Wonolopo Semarang had increased their abilities in developing tourism institutions and digital marketing innovation, as much as 1.6% needed to be improved. The activity aims to develop a 900 Wp solar power plant capable of providing energy for running the essential electrical devices for the hydroponics system uninterrupted. This idea is to resolve the energy issue when the outage occurs. Moreover, the reliance on the public grid also adds additional expense for the electricity bill. Based on the observation, the power plant reliably provides sufficient energy to turn on different hydroponics electrical devices. It can supply energy for 12 hours without charging to activate, in total, 160 Watt of diverse loads all night long. While during the day, solar panels deliver energy for the batteries recharging and the other loads. Some other facilities are also developed in this activity, including UV plastic roof and addition of the grow lights to promote the plants’ growth acceleration. The plastic roof efficiently reduces the sunlight intensity to lower the heat experienced by the plants, transmits specific wavelengths crucial for growth, and prevents the rainwater from entering the nutrient water tank. Meanwhile, the grow lights stimulate faster growth and quickly recover the plants after receiving much heat that causes them to look wilt. As a result, the farmers are now less reliant on the public grid, and the hydroponics system is more weather-resistant.","PeriodicalId":111399,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Layanan Masyarakat (Journal of Public Services)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132435911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
