Two different probabilistic models for the primary users' location information are assumed, one uniform distribution and the other with Gaussian distribution. The interplay between the achievable rate of the secondary system and the primary users' location information under the AWGN and a fading channel model are presented and analyzed. Investigations are carried out for different propagation environments, localization models and primary-secondary user settings. Results show that the relationship between the secondary system sum-rate and the primary users' location information depends on the number of primary and secondary users, as well as the propagation environment. Empirical expressions for the sum-rate are proposed for different localization probability distributions.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115653967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed general distribution of the PAPR depends on the number of the subcarriers, distribution of the power allocation and the amount of the total transmission power. To validate the analytical results, we conduct extensive experiments and the numerical results also show that the proposed distribution of the PAPR has a good agreement with that of OFDM systems with unequal power allocation strategy. Finally, we show an example of that the proposed distribution of the PAPR could be directly applied to design the OFDM systems with selective mapping technique to reduce the PAPR.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132256011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work we propose an Enhanced Fractional Frequency Reuse (EFFR) scheme with an interference-aware reuse mechanism to achieve not only ICI limitation at cell edge but also enhancement of overall cell capacity in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) based communication networks. The EFFR scheme divides the whole available bandwidth into a Primary Segment and a Secondary Segment. The exclusive reuse-3 subchannels in the Primary Segment will be preferentially used by cell-edge users with higher transmission power, whereas the remaining subchannels are all reuse-1 subchannels allowing to be used with lower power. In addition, the resources in the Secondary Segment will be occupied by means of signal-to-interference-ratio (SINR) estimation. We implement the proposed EFFR scheme in a system-level simulator OpenWNS and compare its performance with the well-known Incremental Frequency Reuse (IFR) scheme, the classical reuse-1 and reuse-3 schemes. In order to reach a reliable evaluation, schemes are simulated with individual power masks, and using a scenario with surrounding cells up to 2nd-tier. The simulation results show that with the usage of the EFFR scheme substantial improvements in both, the overall cell capacity as well as the cell-edge user performance can be gained.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"749 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122967981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work combines the flexibility of Layer-2 Wireless Bridging with the dynamic self-configuring capabilities of MANET routing. The main contribution of this paper is an investigation of the issues encountered when applying a pure bridging based solution to wireless multi-hop networks and the development of several mechanisms to overcome these problems. This work was implemented and deployed in a real testbed environment using Routerboard hardware and utilising a number of open-source network tools in accordance with the needs of our platform. The developed testbed incorporates self-healing and self-configuration features without requiring a traditional MANET routing protocol. Instead the 802.11 beacon frames sent by the Access Points were extended with link information to allow optimal construction of the mesh topology. Results are presented which demonstrate the automated topology construction mechanism. Further results also show the enhancements made to the normal 802.11 Layer-2 mobility mechanism.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"94 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113988231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With contexts from multiple entities available, the degree of alikeness of those contexts poses an interesting piece of information. We have tackled the issue of contextual proximity by employing mechanisms known from location-based services on conventional context-aware computing. This paper discusses the idea of the Contextual Map, a context model inspired by conventional map-models in location-aware computing. The Contextual Map represents contextual information in a multidimensional map model, where proximate representations of contexts imply affinity between those contexts. We consider entities, which compose such contexts, are potentially distributed and mobile. This highly dynamic environment puts our focus on the issue how those context carriers are distributed and which architectural conclusions are to be drawn.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133673872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under Rayleigh fading channels, the closed-form solution for the optimal location is derived. It is interesting to find that the optimal relay location is related to the power configuration of nodes and the pathloss exponent. When the direct link exists, the optimal location is partly dependent on the total number of the relays. Numerical results show that the approximation analysis matches the theory values very well, and with location optimization, the minimal outage probability can be obtained.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123932101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For people on the move, vehicular networks can provide critical network connectivity and access to real-time information. Infestations play a vital role in these networks by acting as gateways to the Internet and by extending network connectivity. In this context, an important question is \"What is the minimum number of infestations that need to be deployed in an area in order to support vehicular applications?\" Optimizing infostation density is vital to understanding and reducing the cost of deployment and management. In this paper, we examine the required infostation density in a highway scenario using different data dissemination models. We start from a simple analysis that captures the required density under idealized assumptions. We then run detailed QualNet simulations on both controlled and realistic vehicular traces to observe the information density trends in practical environments, and consequently propose techniques to improve dissemination performance and reduce the required infostation density.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117087178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three phases are considered in the proposed scheme(named scheme 1): l)in the first phase, JVt primary users(PUs) in the high-rate region are chosen to implement communication with primary base station (PBS); 2)in the second phase, PBS will support simultaneously the fixed relay station(RS) and the selected PUs in the high-rate region based on certain beamforming(BF); 3)in the third phase, selected PUs in the low-rate region and selected cognitive users(CUs) in the cognitive region are supported by RS. In particular, during the phases above, all selected users send back their channel covariance matrices to PBS or RS on the purpose of lowering the feedback and implementing certain BE Furthermore, a frame structure used for the joint scheduling and transmitting scheme is presented and the performance of scheme 1 with imperfect channel covariance matrix feedback is evaluated to compare with that of scheme 1 with perfect feedback. In this paper, we focus on Beacon-Less Routing algorithm (BLR) and propose a new forwarding algorithm that improves BLR and analyze its performance. BLR is efficient to reduce redundancy in its transmissions for flooding. When a node receives a packet, a time variable referred to as deferring time is calculated using the positions of the sender, the receiver, and the final destination of the packet. Each node forwards the packet after this deferring time unless it notices that another node forwards the same packet during the deferring time. As a result, only the node that is assigned the shortest deferring time forwards the packet. It is necessary to make this deferring time as short as possible in order to reduce the total deferring time in a multi-hop transmission. In order to evaluate our approach named Distance-Aware Forwarding (DAF), we carry out a performance analysis. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach reduces the total deferring time in a multi-hop transmission, although the number of hops slightly increases.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125573161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we developed a flat network architecture rather than traditional two-layer mobility management architecture to reduce network elements and lighten networking load. Based on the proposed flat network structure the concept of separation of location and identity (Loc/ID), which comes from “clean-slate” design idea, was used in the mobility management scheme. To maximally reduce the handoff latency, bicasting mechanism was adopted and the consumption of bicasting was limited locally rather than globally. As analyzed in this paper, the bicasting scheme forms a lower bound for handoff latency in single network interface configuration case. To evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management system analytical model was established by which the signaling cost, handoff delay and packet loss were evaluated. Compared with other fast handoff approach, we showed that our handoff approach is better in terms of signaling cost, handoff latency and bicasting cost.","PeriodicalId":111317,"journal":{"name":"2010 The 5th Annual ICST Wireless Internet Conference (WICON)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127054593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
