Eguchi, Kenji Ishigaki","doi":"10.1109/ICAT.2007.65","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICAT.2007.65","url":null,"abstract":"This paper describes a novel interface named the K-eXplorer that provides the user with a multiple access channel to information of the real-world objects by using a smart phone (K-tai in Japanese) that people carry at almost all times. The K-eXplorer system presents interfaces to obtain information of objects in the real-world by a smartphone so that an information space is overlaid and mixed to augment the real-space where people work everyday. The system implements two interfaces, the remote interface and the direct interface, with the goals of constant connectivity, extensibility and context sensitivity. The information of remote objects can be obtained with the remote interface based on a map, images and keywords. The direct interface is embodied by introducing a K-station that augments limited connectivity of a K-tai to the real-world. Three types of K-station, the tray-, desk-light- and bag-type implementations were built to demonstrate specific functions. Consequently the augmentation of information of the real-world objects was realized as retrieval, linking, registration, tracing a history and position, and providing plan related information of objects. However, the interaction on such systems faces inherent difficulties such as inaccurate tracking, lack of depth cues, and unstable spatial manipulation without the sense of touch. In this paper, we propose a see-through lens interface using a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) for supporting spatial manipulation within an immersive display. Compared to related techniques, a PDA-based see-through lens interface includes the following advantages, which we believe will provide more natural and flexible manipulation and interaction schemes in an immersive environment: physical contact of the screen surface for easy 2D manipulation in 3D space, built-in controls for immediate command execution, and a built-in display for a flexible GUI (graphical user interface). Conventional localization methods usually employ a hybrid approach in which user's position is estimated bv combining positioning infrastructures and a pedometer. Since the installation cost of infrastructures increases when the area expands, the measurement Figure Illustration summing up step method of user's relative position with high accuracy is required. Although a numder of methods using a pedometer have been developed to improve the estimation accuracy, these methods generally can handle only usual walking behavior of a user. This paper proposes a new real time localization method for both walking and running users by using a wearable electromagnetic tracker and an inertial sensor. The proposed localization method estimates a moving distance in the period when both legs do not ground by estimating a velocity of waist when user's leg leaves.
