Cities in developing countries are grappling with developing sustainable strategies to dealing with e-waste and therefore households are compelled to fashion their own disposal strategies. This article examined some of these disposal strategies and the factors that influenced their adoption in Tamale, a growing city in northern Ghana. Data for the study were collected using different techniques including questionnaire survey and key informant interviews. The predominant disposal strategies that emerged were selling e-waste as scrap; donating to other people as gifts; selling as second hand product; disposing with other domestic wastes or combination of any of the strategies. These informal management strategies were influenced by respondents’ age, education level and income. It is recommended that the observed disposal strategies can be articulated in Ghana’s search for definitive e-waste management policies that are environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically viable. Using the Techiman Traditional Area in Ghana as a case study, the study sampled 455 youth and 23 elders using multiple sampling techniques. It was revealed that while PNDCL 111 has had some positive effects on the ability of the youth to inherit personal properties of their deceased parents; its exemption of family land in terms of application takes agricultural land access through inheritance outside the purview of the law. Given that majority of agricultural lands are family property, youth land access option through inheritance under the law is thus limited. Again, there are no more vacant lands to be acquired as personal property which the youth can inherit under the law. In the case of PNDCL 114, the study found that the law provides no practical support to the youth in asserting claims to land or seeking accountability from their elders over land proceeds. It is recommended that both PNDCL 111 and PNDCL 114 be reviewed to reflect these limitations. Also, the Head of Family Accountability law should make Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms an integral part of the law to improve on dispute adjudication given that court actions to demand accountability are not generally culturally acceptable. It sought to assess how efficiently forestry policy had been implemented in Ghana, to inform policy on how benefits of forestry policy could promote inclusive growth. It employs an inclusive wealth framework to ascertain the social opportunity cost due to forestry policy implementation in Ghana, an indicator of the economic welfare effect of the policy. The results show negative net divergence in revenue due to forestry policy implementation, indicating a distorting influence of forestry policy on Ghana’s forestry sector, creating increasing inefficiency. Computed summary ratios – Nominal Protection Coefficient, Effective Protection Coefficient and Subsidy Ratio to Producers, confirmed that forestry policy implementation in Ghana had induced lower economic welfare in the country. Ghana will need to apply the holistic model, with special emphasis on the economic and social subsectors to ensure that implemented forestry policy leads to inclusive growth. Field studies on effects of defoliation in cowpea were conducted at the University for Development Studies, Tamale in Northern Ghana during the 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons. Four cowpea varieties, namely Songotra, Padituya, Binaaba and Sanzi were subjected to the following five levels of defoliation: 0 %, 25 %, 50 %, 75 % and 100 %. The treatment combinations were replicated three times in randomised complete block design. Results indicated that the varieties differed from each other in terms of vegetative growth and yield responses to defoliation. The overall best grain yielder was Padituya whilst Binaaba was the poorest in terms of grain yield. This study examined the state of faecal matter management in Wa. A stratified sample of residential areas and a systematic sampling of households were employed for the selection of respondents and data was collected using questionnaire survey and key informant interviews. The results indicate that 52% of households in the municipality do not have their own toilet facilities and open defecation appears to be an acceptable practice for them. Surprisingly, public perception about faecal matter handling generally indicates that there are no dangers posed by exposure to humans. The finding suggests a considerable demand for improvements in the management of faecal matter but efforts to improve the situation might be thwarted by misconceptions of the risks posed by exposure to humans. Local government authorities need to re-engineer their efforts of providing a liveable environment by developing a regulatory framework that incorporates subsidies for the construction of household toilets and enforcement of sanitation bye-laws. Seeds of pearl millet were irradiated with gamma rays at 100, 200 or 300 Gy. The irradiated and some unirradiated control seeds were planted in 2014 in a randomized complete block design with four replications. At harvest, all M1 seeds for respective gamma ray doses were harvested and advanced to M2 generation during the 2015 cropping season. Mutant lines with desirable agronomic traits from the M2 generation were advanced to M3 during the 2016 season. Result of screening the M3 mutant lines indicated that mutagenesis followed by selection produced desirable agronomic characteristics. Number of productive tillers was the yield component mostly associated with total grain yield. The mutant lines especially those from the 100 and 200 Gy doses of gamma rays recorded significant improvement in earliness, number of productive tillers, seed weight and total grain yield. The early maturing and high yielding mutant lines are being evaluated in multilocational trials for possible release as varieties for northern Ghana. However, these efforts by governments have not yielded the desired results in Mathematics. King William’s Town Education District is not immune to this poor performance of learners in Mathematics. This study therefore sought to find out the motivation and attitude of grade Nine learners towards Mathematics in the District. Three hundred and sixty grade Nine learners were selected for the study. A structured questionnaire was adopted as a research instrument in collecting data from the learners. The study showed that, learners lack motivation from their educators to study Mathematics and this adversely affects their attitude towards the subject. Mathematics educators were recommended to provide extrinsic motivations such as praises, gifts, to learners during Mathematics lessons. Scholarship to well performing students in Mathematics, feedback and Visitation of learners at home by their Mathematics educators should also be encouraged. On the other hand, learners must develop a positive attitude towards Mathematics. They must love the subject and make consistent efforts of studying Mathematics every day. Some studies revealed that participation in Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) is low. This study adopted a case study approach. A sample of 196 people participated in the study. The study revealed that stakeholder participation in M&E of projects and programmes was high among the Municipal Planning and Co-ordinating Unit (MPCU) members and the District Assembly members but low at the Zonal Council and community levels. This has impacted negatively on the transparency, accountability and the sustenance of projects and programmes. The study concludes that stakeholders were rarely involved in M&E of projects and programmes due to lack of concerted effort by the MPCU for grass root stakeholder participation and poor attitude on the part of community level stakeholders in M&E of projects and programmes. The MPCU and the Assembly members’ involvement were appreciably high whereas the Unit committee, the community and the Zonal councils’ involvement were low. The study recommends that the District Assembly through the MPCU should establish strategies  such as increased engagement of the substructures in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation process, creating an enabling environment for the substructures to set their own targets, support them to meet the targets and build their capacities to report regularly to communities under them and to the Municipal Assembly. The Municipal Assembly should partner with the Sub-structures to embark on community sensitization on participatory monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes. The authors conducted an extensive and systematic review of existing literature on MDGs, SDGs and health litigation cases decided by the Constitutional Court in South Africa. The rationale for this approach is to examine whether the SDGs connect with the right to health and how the court can shape the policy environment for the implementation of SDGs. It was found that the SDGs connect with the right to health and that the Constitutional Court has influenced the MDGs policy environment, hence, can contribute to the implementation of health related SDGs in South Africa. It is concluded that Courts’ role as a platform of accountability, a catalyst of change in the policy environment and agent of social mobilization are important lessons for implementing health related SDGs in South Africa. It is recommended that government and indeed other stakeholders should take into consideration the role of court as they pursue the implementation of health related SDGs in South Africa. The poverty is caused partly by inadequate water availability and deteriorating soil conditions. As a result, various organizations promote the use of soil and water conservation practices in the area, but the link between the use of the practices and farmer multi-activity technical efficiency is yet to be shown empirically. The current study thus investigates this link using data from 445 households in the area. The study uses a stochastic input distance function and the results show adoption of conservation practices exerts positive effect on technical efficiency. The results further reveal significant diversification economies in smallholder production with complementarity effects in crop-livestock and livestock-off-farm combinations, and substitutability effects in crop-off-farm combination thereby highlighting the need for a holistic development of both the farm and off-farm sectors.
