In which the latter allows the clustering of many distributed generation units, storage systems along with power electronic converters and loads where all the previous units are connected to/disconnected from the distribution level at one point called point of common coupling (PCC) via a static transfer switch. This new paradigm enables to resolve many technical, economical, and environmental issues. However, the weakest link in the microgrid is the storage systems and how they work together to feed properly loads in islanded or grid-connected modes. In this context, this paper proposes a microgrid constituted of two flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) where each one of them can be connected either to a photovoltaic (PV) array or to a wind turbine. The sharing power within the studied microgrid is relied on the droop control method. The simulation results have been carried out using MATLAB/Simulink software and have proved the effectiveness of the proposed control to meet the load needs in an equal manner without resorting to the use to communications link between different units based mainly on FESS.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133080419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this goal, we must first quantify the energy potential of the wind in order to optimize the design of the wind pumping system, which consists of a whisper of 1KW. The available wind potential was evaluated using the OWC utility of the Atlas Wind Analysis and Application Program (WAsP software). The wind data used are measurements taken by a research team of the UDES during the whole year of 2016 for the site of bouismail and the data of ONM 2016 for AdrarThe tower height of the wind turbine is first optimized according to the height of the monomer and the pumping rate increases to meet the needs of a good irrigation field. A global modeling system, correlated to the available characteristic of each site, is carried out to estimate the flows taken from the hourly scales, the daily scales and the scales of the year. Finally, the results are compared and the recommendations given.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121300701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the computations were based on recent data, collected from the highest measurement mast and the only one in Algeria at 50m above ground level (a.g.l) located in Ksar Chellala region, in the occidental part of the Algerian highlands. The ANN prediction model for the vertical wind speed is based on four inputs data, which are wind speed, wind direction, temperature and relative humidity, recorded at 10m a.g.l and the target wind speed recorded at 50m a.g.l. A test was applied to the experimental data, which allow filtering the outliers in the database. The proposed model is validated by comparing between the predicted and measured wind speeds. An excellent results were given by the coefficient of correlation R2=0.99586 and the root mean square error RMSE=0.0001, while the mean absolute percentage error MAPE were found to be equal to 26%. Other hand compared the obtained results with the logarithmic extrapolation law (LEL), one of the commonly used methods in wind speed vertical prediction, where the error is about 1.15 m/s for the ANN proposed model against 0.40 m/s regarding the LEL.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128887457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its design and control facilitate significant reduction in axial bearing pressure and losses. Due to the unconventional flux distribution in this machine, a 3-D finite element (Maxwe1112) method was employed for its design and analysis, including its electromagnetic torque and axial force performances.The effects of the rotor permanent magnet (PM) and slots skew angles on the cogging torque and the axial force have been studied. It is found that an optimum skew angle is effective in reducing the overall cogging torque with negligible effect on the static axial force. The latter is crucial as it can be utilized to minimize the axial bearing pressure in FESS application.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133492836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional technology solutions provided by diesel generators are costly because of high maintenance and fuel supply costs and have drawbacks related to noise and especially greenhouse gas emissions. New technological solutions provided by solar and wind water pumping systems are experiencing high growth rates in recent years. Because of their high initial capital cost, many studies on their optimal sizing have been carried out. In this paper, an optimal sizing model based on Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) and Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The main goal is to deal with the optimal sizing problem of hybrid PV-Wind-based water pumping system taking into account the techno-economic aspects. The developed method uses the PSO algorithm to find the optimal configuration of the studied hybrid system insuring minimum cost and satisfying a desired loss of power supply probability. A computing code is developed and a flexible graphical interface is designed.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127988013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this work is to study the impact of the sand numerically using a multiphase CFD model based on a Eulerian-Lagrangian approach. In this approach, the air is considered as a continuous phase governed by averaged Navier Stokes equations and the sand particles are considered as a discrete phase governed by Newton's second law. A parametric study includes the variation of different parameters, such as particles concentration, particles volume fraction and particles diameter were applied to the local region of Adrar. The comparison between results obtained by the multiphasic model and results of air without particles (monophasic model) allowed us to identify the global influence of sand on the aerodynamic performance of the rotor under different sandy wind conditions. It was noted that the presence of sand particles could significantly reduce the aerodynamic performances.","PeriodicalId":110091,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Wind Energy and Applications in Algeria (ICWEAA)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128153579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sizing is an indispensable step in the optimization of renewable energy systems because of their intermittent nature. In this context, the research work presented focuses on the development of a methodology for analysis and technical-economic evaluation carried out for a hybrid (PV/wind) system where the results are compared and discussed. Two models describe this methodology; the reliability model developed using the Loss of Power Supply Probability Concept and the Life Cycle Cost Model. As the proposed optimization problem is strongly nonlinear, to solve it we opt for the use of metaheuristic methods. In order to achieve our goal, we proposed four optimization algorithms namely: BAT Algorithm, Cuckoo Search Algorithm, FireFIy Algorithm, and Flower Pollination Algorithm.
