Its most common intraoral location is the gingiva and it is classically thought to arise due to either chronic irritation or hormonal influences. Extragingival sites are very rarely reported for this lesion and may tend to present a diagnostic dilemma to the clinician. Here we report one such case of pyogenic granuloma of the buccal mucosa in a 12 year old female child which was atypical in presentation and was treated by diode laser excision.","PeriodicalId":110010,"journal":{"name":"JBR Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Dental Science","volume":"07 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127141075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cell therapies have emerged as a new, minimally invasive therapeutic modality that allows for the use of autologous cell transplantation, and may involve adult undifferentiated mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSC) or differentiated cell lineage,like condrocytes.The aim of this study was to review the existing controlled clinical trials that evaluate the efficacy and safety of these different types of cell therapy in adult patients with temporomandibular joint(TMJ) osteoarthritis. The parameters used to search the literature and retrieve these studies, as well as the assessments \u0000of eligibility criteria,have followed the recommendations of the PRISMA Statement. A highly sensitive search strategy was held in the Medline (1966-2013)and Central Register of Controlled Trials(1960-2013)databases. The latest search was carried out on Dec 27,2013. Different combinations of keywords were used, temporomandibular joint, temporomandibular disorders, craniomandibular dysfunction, stem cells, mesenchymal cells and autologous condrocytes, yielded 101 clinical trials. Most of these trials, however, were related to osteoarthitis of the knees. No clinical trials were conducted in patients with TMJ osteoarthritis. There is no evidence from randomized controlled trials to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of different types of cellular therapies for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the TMJ. There is an urgent need to perform clinical trials in this area in order to benefit patients with advanced processes who are refractory to conservative or conventional minimally invasive therapeutic modalities.","PeriodicalId":110010,"journal":{"name":"JBR Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Dental Science","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130940633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electrodes were placed on the temple of the former muscle, and on the inferior portion of the latter muscle. The endplate potential (EPP) component was extracted from raw EMGs of the muscles using a digital filter: the frequency of the high-cut digital filter for eliminating action potentials was set to 12.5 Hz or 45 Hz. The EPP component of the EMG burst of each stroke in the natural chewing showed two phases, early negative slow wave and following oscillation, which was same as observed in the clenching task. From FFT analysis, the frequencies of the ipsilateral EPP oscillations were around 30 Hz for both the temporalis and masseter muscles, which was also the same for the clenching task. It is concluded that the contraction of the jaw closing muscles is regulated in an oscillating manner of the EPP even in natural chewing behaviors. This oscillation phenomenon of the EPP gives a useful hint about the mechanism of muscular movements including chewing.","PeriodicalId":110010,"journal":{"name":"JBR Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Dental Science","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129560228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinically, it frequently manifests as a painless swelling, which can be accompanied by facialde formity, malocclusion and paresthesia of the affected area. Histologically, the minimum criterion for diagnosing a lesion as unicystic ameloblastoma is the demonstration of a single cystic sac lined by odontogenic (ameloblastomatous) epithelium often seen only in focal areas whereas radiographically they represent a unilocular radiolucency. This report however, is first to show malignant squamous conversion of unicystic ameloblastoma lining in a 35 year old female patient.","PeriodicalId":110010,"journal":{"name":"JBR Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Dental Science","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126343480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients were divided into 3 groups of 10 subjects each according to diabetic and DMFT scores as G-1 (control, non diabetic) DMFT- 0, G-2 (non diabetic) DMFT 4 - 8 and G-3 (diabetic) DMFT 4 - 8. Unstimulated saliva samples were collected from each subject for estimation of IgA using the Turbidometric method. Data obtained were statistically analysed. \u0000Results: Correlation of Salivary IgA and DMFT showed steady decrease in values of Salivary-IgA from Group I – III.
