In this inverter, the output wave with sinusoidal pulsewidth distribution can be kept in maximum degree of symmetry, and so it offers excellent harmonic control in comparison with any other modulation technique. Detailed analysis shows that the harmonics lower than the ninth (or the thirteenth) are all less than one percent of the fundamental component when the number of pulses per half cycle is over seven (or nine). These results are confirmed by the theoretical data obtained from the natural sampling, and the experimental observations for single-phase full-bridge sinusoidal pulsewidth modulated (SPWM) inverters. It is concluded that by the use of this new technique it is quite easy to design an inverter with a distortion-free sinusoidal output.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120968735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The laboratory system described herein makes use of a digitized image of the component produced by a scanner camera fitted with a linear photo-diode array. By means of a dedicated computer equipped with direct memory access (DMA) capability, an algorithm constructs, so to speak, a circumscribed rectangular image, from which two geometric parameters are evaluated. The two parameters are used to determine the angular orientation of the components. This system has been demonstrated to be simple in design, fast in operation, and can be realized at moderate cost.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114649417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tuning, modeling accuracy, and the effects of parameter variations and measurement noise are all studied using a simulated second-order process with dead time. The corresponding performance of the conventional proportional plus integral (PI) controller is used as a reference for comparison. It is shown that the SDT controller yields improved results over the PI controller if the plant is fairly stationary and the noise level is moderate. Otherwise adaptive filtering and control will be needed to maintain the superiority of the SDT controller over the PI controller.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129344046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A major disadvantage of densimeters based on this principle is their poor accuracy for viscous fluids. We solve this difficulty by making an automatic control of the physical phase at which the resonator oscillates. This is done by a modulation technique which, additionally, gives the quality factor and, therefore, the viscosity in digital form. To discover what this physical phase should be and what the factors affecting it are, we made a detailed analytical and numerical study of the vibration of resonators in a viscous fluid. Two densimeters have been built using these results. Their density x viscosity span is 10-100 times larger than that of commercially available instruments of the wholly immersed type. This instrument has achieved an accuracy of ± 0.1 percent.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130620072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to conventional converter design, emphasis is placed on obtaining sinusoidal-type waveforms (instead of rectangular-type waveforms) to minimize device switching time requirements and alleviate transforming requirements. A 25-W 48-V to 5-V dc-to-dc converter design using a 5-MHz switching frequency is presented illustrating these principles, using a Class E power amplifier, an L section impedance transformer, and a shunt-mounted harmonically tuned rectifier circuit. Computer simulation results are presented that indicate the feasibility of the proposed design approach, specify required circuit parameters and indicate that line and load regulation can be achieved with narrow-band frequency control. Experimental results on a low power 5-W, 25-V to 5-V dc-to-dc converter breadboard using a 10-MHz switching frequency with the described circuit topology are presented. An efficiency of 68 percent was obtained and load regulation by frequency control demonstrated. Inductor Q requirements limit the conversion efficiency of the proposed converter, and will probably be the limiting factor in obtaining high efficiency with similar design approaches.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125921146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The steady-state and the dynamic characteristics of this converter are compared both theoretically and experimentally with those of the conventional one composed of the step-up-down type circuit. As the results of comparative analysis, it is revealed that this new converter is superior to the conventional one in the steady-state and the dynamic performances. Further, it is demonstrated experimentally that the cross regulation performance of this new multiple-output converter is less affected by the leakage flux in the energy-storage reactor, and also that this converter is very useful as a preregulator for the continuous series regulator in cases requiring a high degree of regulation of the multiple-output voltages.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130714091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
