However, because of their limited real-time capabilities, present-day microprocessors cannot accommodate excessively lengthy control algorithms. This paper presents a method, suitable for microprocessor implementation, of controlling the position or speed of an SCR dc motor drive which uses a half-wave single-phase supply. The state-space equations of the system are first obtained. The derivation of a simple control law is given next, followed by the stability and error analysis of the controller. Finally, it is shown from simulation experiments that the scheme is effective in controlling a 3-hp dc motor.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122391514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A linear continuous model of the drive is developed and the system response is analysed using conventional root locus techniques. Various compensating ``filters'' and feedback signals are considered and the need for addition of derivative feedback is shown. A sampled data model is used to study the effects of discrete phase detector output. Stability limits on speed are predicted. A drive was implemented and experimental results are presented to verify theoretical predictions.","PeriodicalId":109541,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114880608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The instrument operates on the principle that the center of gravity of an object is, as in balancing a rod, the null point when it is brought to balance. In the equipment a figure of interest is contrasted against the background image by a video camera. The resulting video signal is processed in the instrument to derive voltages representing the xy coordinates of the centroid of the figure.
