Three-dimensional images to be demonstrated on the new 3D image display system will be generated on the blue channel with a help of the red channel in the following 3 steps. Firstly, high invisibility has been attained by changing colored projection pattern using the checkerboard pattern in the blue channel to enhance the invisibility toward human eye's characteristics. Secondly, higher contrast is kept unchanged to enhance readability more than ever. Thirdly, the pattern noise caused by the checkerboard pattern on the blue channel was eliminated, in support of red channel, by estimating the value of spatial frequency response on the blue channel, based on the spatial frequency response on the red channel, provided no pattern noise occurred, and also provided that the blue, green, and red channels are projected from a single projector. According to the three steps, invisibility and readability were drastically improved, on the enhanced readability with fewer pattern noise to an invisible level.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123641717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As well as, the doubly fed asynchronous machine based VSD suits for different variable speed applications due to its effective controllability with partial rated power converters. To improve the performance of the doubly fed system in the aspect of cost effective energy saving, a fuzzy logic controller based switching strategy is introduced in this paper. The proposed energy optimal fuzzy switching strategy overcomes the traditional model based control and it is flexible to adopt in any existing doubly fed VSD without any extensive modification. The developed system has been implemented and tested in the laboratory with a 2.2 kW doubly fed machine that provides an effectual result in power factor improvement and reduction in energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121153605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They offer precise phaser measurements with a high refresh rate. These measurements are utilized for wide area measurement system (WAMS) to improve situational awareness and enhance the control infrastructure. In spite of these advantages, the industry has been slow to adopt PMU technology, largely due to the cost of PMUs and the communication infrastructure. However, judicious selection of PMU locations, through optimal placement of PMUs (OPP) enables the minimization of installation cost. There have been several approaches to solve the OPP; most of these approaches assume that the minimum number of PMUs achieves the minimum cost or consider the cost of PMUs without considering the communication infrastructure. This paper presents an OPP approach that considers both the communication infrastructure and the installation cost of PMUs. The proposed approach uses multi-stage installation where each stage is dependent on the cost set by the utility and not the number of PMUs. Higher priority buses can be chosen under the proposed approach. An opposition-based elitist binary genetic algorithm (O-BEBGA) is used to solve the OPP. The proposed approach is tested on the IEEE 14-bus, IEEE RTS and IEEE 30-bus test systems.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"108 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114115902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To enable the fast and accurate estimation of the variables in the presence of unbalancing or distortion in the grid voltages, a pre-filtering scheme is considered based on the dual second order generalized integrator (DSOGI) approach. The signal recomposition performed by the pre-filter isolates the harmonics from the voltage and current waveforms, and the differentiation FLL (dFLL) is able to estimate the frequency of the waveforms which is used as a feedback for the pre-filter, thus making the system frequency adaptive. The control algorithm is validated with both simulation studies and a hardware prototype of a active power filter carrying out current compensation robustly, demonstrating the speed and accuracy of the system under grid voltage distortions and maintaining less than 5% supply current total harmonic distortion THD as dictated by IEEE Std. 519-2014.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126501465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed DTC is designed to adjust the d — g-axis components of stator voltages (vd and vq) of a PMSM, in response to changes in load torque or drive speed. The desired adjustments in vd and Vq are achieved by changing the angle ê of a frame created by Vd and Vq. This frame is responsible for updating or changing the reference modulating signals that are required by the wavelet modulation technique to generate switching pulses. The complete PMSM drive system incorporating the developed DTC is implemented for a 10-hp PMSM drive system. The performance of the frame-angle-based DTC is investigated for different changes in the command torque and drive speed. Simulation test results demonstrate stable, fast, and accurate responses that are complimented by negligible sensitivity to variations in the system parameters.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128084146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measuring luminance to determine proper illumination within an underground mine is faced with many challenges because in practice, luminance measurements are affected by the photometer accuracy, measurement method, and condition of the measurement surface. Laboratory experiments and field testing in an underground coal mine were performed at four rib locations in order to quantify various sources of variance, including the variances due to angle offset of the photometer, measurement distance from the coal rib, changing texture of the coal rib, and wetness of the coal. The variations among different locations of coal ribs within the mine were also considered. Results showed a very large variation in the luminance measurements that ranged from a −42.9% luminance change when the coal rib was wetted up to a 76% luminance change when the photometer perpendicularity was offset by 5°. The results indicate that field measurement of luminance is likely impractical given it is affected by multiple factors that are difficult to control in the field.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131383711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the space vector modulation of cascaded Z-source ultra-sparse matrix converter (ZSUSMC), where the Z-source network is inserted between the rectifier and inverter stages of an ultra-sparse matrix converter (USMC), is investigated. Digital implementation of the already existing space vector modulation (SVM) techniques for Z-source MCs is possible with a field programmable gate array (FPGA) employed along with a digital signal processor (DSP) due to occurrence of three switching transients in one control period. In this paper, an SVM scheme with an optimal switching pattern resulting in minimum number of changes in the switches states is developed. Furthermore, a novel approach for implementation of the developed modulation scheme on a single conventional DSP is proposed. Hardware-in-the-loop studies of the ZSUMC under the developed modulation scheme are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed implementation approach on a conventional DSP.","PeriodicalId":107824,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131989126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, with the developments of technology many industrial processes have been undergone significant changes and process of systems have been more complicated. Hence, modeling these processes with the use of first-principles or identification method becomes more difficult, which leads the MBC theory to be impractical for controlling of these kinds of systems. In this study a data-driven model-free adaptive control (MFAC), is proposed for the multi-input multi-output control design of a, hybrid dc power systems (HDCPSs), system. This proposed MFAC doesn't need any information about system model or parameters and it can be appropriate method for complex systems.
