Les choses changent et elles veulent maintenant saisir toutes les opportunites de promouvoir la bibliotheque et ses services aupres des usagers et des decideurs. Meme si quelques bibliothecaires hesitent face au marketing, une des raisons peut etre l'idee de voir le marketing comme un outil qui sert a demander toujours plus des employes, et ce, sans support humain ou materiel. Mais le marketing est plus integre dans la gestion de bibliotheque en tant que lien vers d'imminents sujets comme la gestion des espaces ou la communication corporative.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"51 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114036808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Waechter discussed in his article published 2002 Microfilming is microfilming, however not conservation >> Nicholson Baker's book Double Fold (Random House, N.Y. 2001) and the current approach of library managers concerning paper conservation. Having in mind the politically influenced behaviour of library managers in Europe we are highly interested in contributing to these discussions, especially in the case of newspapers. The major items to be agreed upon for future measures concerning newspaper conservation are the following: 1. Conservation of the original is not equal to conservation of information. 2. Mass-conservation of paper originals is necessary and possible today. 3. Due to the tremendous properties of secondary forms (longevity and accessibility) it would be possible to archive only one original newspaper nationwide and organise the availability of copies - microfilm for safety and digitised copies for access and distribution. 4. The proposed approach calls for collaborative action on part of all libraries and archives, including the political level. 5. After evaluation of the condition of the newspapers and determination of the best original in a concerted operation involving those responsible for stock at libraries and archives, that particular one original could be conserved by the current well advanced - and reversible - technologies such as mass-deacidification and stabilisation by means of paper splitting. Simultaneously, the original could be microfilmed and digitised using the highest standards available.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116604479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a sub-discipline of the knowledge economy, knowledge management is a completely new concept and method of management. It works for converting intellectual assets of workers and staff members in the organization into higher productive forces - competition power and new value. Knowledge management requires linkage of information with information, information with activities and information with man - so as to realize the sharing of knowledge (including tacit and explicit knowledge). The conventional functions of a library are to collect, process, disseminate, store and utilize document information to provide service for the society. In the knowledge economy era, the library will become a treasure-house of human knowledge, participate in knowledge innovation, and become an important link in the knowledge innovation chain. In the 21st century, the library will inevitably face the new subject of knowledge management.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130555146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lyons","doi":"10.1515/9783598441677.135","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1515/9783598441677.135","url":null,"abstract":"The Federal-State Cooperative System, recently renamed Public Library Statistics Cooperative (PLSC), is the most comprehensive public library statistical collaborative endeavor in the United States. PLSC has published national statistics describing more than 9,200 public libraries annually since 1991. The ready availability of such large statistical datasets has led to increasingly creative uses of these data, the most ambitious of which is the Hennen American Public Library Ratings (HAPLR). Introduced in 1999, HAPLR devises summary scores for libraries based on a eight PLSC statistical items, publishing annual rankings based on these scores. HAPLR has been generally recognized as a credible, if simplistic, measure of library performance. However, as libraries become more knowledgeable about evaluation, the methodological bases of national ratings systems like HAPLR have come under closer scrutiny. This paper examines the methodological foundations of national library ratings and advocates responsible interpretation and use of ratings results. Two types of statistics collected by PLSC are analogous to 'enabling' and 'use' statistics [apparently] specified in the IFLA global statistics model. They do not directly measure library quality, value, excellence, user and non-user perceptions, service outcomes and impacts, or relevance of services to community needs. Thus, composite measures (such as HAPLR and BIX) based upon these types of statistics provide only the most basic indications of library performance. This paper discusses key methodological challenges in developing and using composite measures derived from standardized library statistics.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123872258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
