This paper investigates search techniques that minimize and maximize the mean acquisition time (MAT), a widely used performance measure of an acquisition receiver. We prove that a fixed-step serial search, a form of non-consecutive serial search, achieves a near-optimal MAT. In addition, we prove that the conventional serial search, in which consecutive cells are tested serially, results in the maximum MAT. The combined M-ary code shift (MCS)/DCSK shifts the reference-information signal pair to the location determined by (log/sub 2/ M)-bit data, hence transmitting a (1 + log/sub 2/ M)-bit symbol for the duration of one bit transmitted using DCSK, which in turn can be used to increase the silent periods within and between transmitted signal pairs. The resulting signaling format improves the bit error probability (BEP) performance of DCSK-based systems without altering the receiver structure or increasing the computational complexity, and provides longer silent periods to combat the worse effects of multipath (MP) fading. The specific feeding removes any radiation pattern disturbance generally met with this kind of antenna when fed with a coaxial or a microstrip line. The dipole is smaller than a quarter-wavelength unlike more traditional dipole. For a low cost realization, the antenna has been implemented on a FR4 substrate. Measurements have been done and show good performance both in terms of matching and radiation pattern over a wide frequency bandwidth. This paper provides performance analysis of various TR schemes by developing an analytical framework based on the sampling expansion approach. This paper proposes a complete overview of energy distribution in UWB IEEE channel models. At first, realistic large scale parameters, such as path loss or fading margin, are considered for an accurate link budget analysis. Then, the energy repartition in the channel is modeled so as to specify optimal integration windows and detection performances in non-coherent receiver architectures based on energy collection for both communication and ranging requirements. Moreover, the expected voltage at antenna is analyzed in order to define the receiver sensitivity as a function of range. At last, we focus on auto and cross correlation of channel impulse responses for the purpose of estimating the multi-user capability. However, reliable range-based localization using radio signals in indoor or urban environments can be a problem due to multipath fading and line-of-sight (LOS) blockage. The measurement bias introduced by these delays causes significant localization error, even when using additional sensors such as an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to perform outlier rejection. We describe an algorithm for accurate indoor localization of a sensor in a network of known beacons. The sensor measures the range to the beacons using an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) signal and uses statistical inference to infer and correct for the bias due to LOS blockage in the range measurements. We show that a particle filter can be used to estimate the joint distribution over both pose and beacon biases. We use the particle filter estimation technique specifically to capture the non-linearity of transitions in the beacon bias as the sensor moves. The first scheme encodes the pulses of the same data symbol by a combination of differential phase shift keying and permutation codes and can be associated with any number of transmit and receive antennas. The second scheme encodes different symbols with two transmit antennas. These schemes are associated with Rake receivers and achieve full spatial and multi-path diversity with no data rate loss for constant-modulus multi-dimensional constellations. The high conversion rate and low supply voltage of 1.5 V make the design a challenge. To reduce the time constant of the circuit, we propose a two-stage current-steering topology, in which the distribution of the resistive and capacitive loads is balanced at the two stages. We also propose a folded-cascode current source cell that eliminates the need to control the crossing-points of the switch signals and minimizes the digital feedthrough. The current source cell does this without sacrificing headroom, so the circuit is suitable for a low supply voltage. Post-layout simulation has been performed to estimate performance. At the conversion rate of 5.4 Gsamples/s, the spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) is greater than 38 dB for three different signal frequencies. Both the integral nonlinearity (INL) and differential nonlinearity (DNL) stay within 0.3 LSB.
