The disparity vectors of each template block's spatially adjacent blocks are adopted as the initial references for the template block to speed up the estimation process. The experimental results show that the proposed hierarchical estimation algorithm can reduce computation cost drastically while maintaining comparable PSNR quality. The proposed scheme also results in smoother disparity vector field compared to the exhaustive search scheme. A rate-distortion optimized hierarchical disparity estimation algorithm is also proposed to minimize the distortion of the reconstructed image sequence under a target bit rate constraint. The experimental results show that its PSNR quality is better than the full search algorithm while taking more computing power for the optimization process.","PeriodicalId":105790,"journal":{"name":"International 1998 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125454983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this simple re-use scheme introduces significant quality degradation in many applications including the situation when the frame-rate conversion is needed. In this paper, we analyzed the quantization errors that cause the extracted motion vectors to be non-optimal and we performed simulations to show the quality degradation due to the inaccurate motion vectors during transcoding. To improve the video quality, we proposed an adaptive motion vector refinement. With a highly reduced computational complexity, the proposed adaptive motion vector refinement achieves significant quality improvement in comparison to the conventional motion vector re-use scheme. In addition, the adaptive motion vector refinement is almost as good as performing a new full-scale motion estimation.","PeriodicalId":105790,"journal":{"name":"International 1998 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124488416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The output from the CCD requires automatic gain control before it can be applied to an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter where digitization takes place. Other processing is also required for viewing the output of the recorded image. The development described is an integrated circuit that contains many of the key features associated with processing the analog signals within a camcorder or a digital still camera.","PeriodicalId":105790,"journal":{"name":"International 1998 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114479383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The embedded compression scheme used is based on either block predictive coding or DCT transform coding, depending on the required memory compression. The compression features simple recovery of (MC) block data, while preventing visible artifacts. The compression was optimized for low costs, enabling real application in a commercial MPEG IC. It was found that the same techniques can be applied in the encoder as well.","PeriodicalId":105790,"journal":{"name":"International 1998 Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124536025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
