{"title":"A different story of modern economic science","authors":"Oreste Bazzichi, Fabio Reali","doi":"10.30439/wst.2021.1.9","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30439/wst.2021.1.9","url":null,"abstract":"This paper wants to demonstrate a scenario where it is evident that the medieval society, starting from the monasticism of St. Benedict (famous motto of «ora et labora») and continuing with the Franciscan School, conserves many elements and ideas of intellectual interest that have a reverberation still valid for today, especially concerning the relationship of man with the economy. \u0000The age of the Late Middle Ages in Europe laid the foundations of modern economic science, giving impulse to quite singular reflections gathered from the interpretation of reality, in a typically «Franciscan» key, grasping in the fraternity (franciscan fraternitas) the anthropological and ontological element for the good living in the communitas and for the integral sustainability, therefore, valid also for the economy. It resulted, in fact, the first economic and commercial lexicon that will spread throughout Europe, by the work of important disciples of St. Francis, who grasped a new «spirit» of making economy, completely original, countercurrent, contradicting the prevailing thesis of Max Weber. \u0000But Franciscan humanism still offers, even today, the anthropological, social, and cultural presuppositions for a shift of paradigm within the economic discourse, based on the person with all his inclinations and necessities, presuppositions that are already visible in the experience of the Economy of Communion in Freedom, born on May 29, 1991, among the misery of Brazil, to solve the social and economic problem of this time. \u0000This revolution of the late Middle Ages, social and market, which was also intellectual and aimed at facing the poverty and injustice of that time, is still repeated today with new faces, experiences, and theories.  ","PeriodicalId":105692,"journal":{"name":"Warszawskie Studia Teologiczne","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122410687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of her involvement in religious, social and patriotic activities, at the end of October in 1939, she was arrested by the Nazis and soon shot in the forests of Piaśnica. She was one of the tens of thousands of victims of the Pomeranian Crime. The Rheinischer Merkur, founded in 1946 shortly after the end of the Second World War and shut down by the German Bishops’ Conference in 2010, was a newspaper of this kind. It went beyond the Christian milieu in the fulfilment of its mission in the public arena. The closure of the Rheinischer Merkur obscures even today the decisive role it played in the elaboration of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany and the substantial quality of the paper. {"title":"Mysticism and Early Analytic Philosophy","authors":"Marek Dobrzeniecki","doi":"10.30439/wst.2021.1.7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30439/wst.2021.1.7","url":null,"abstract":"Early analytic philosophy is known for its logical rigor that seems to leave no place for non-rational sources of knowledge such as mystical experiences. The following paper shows on the example of Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein that despite of this early analytic philosophy was interested in mysticism and it also shows the roots of this interest. For Russell an application of logical methods to solving philosophical puzzled was an expression of a more fundamental striving – to know the world as it is, sub specie aeternitatis – which is mystical in nature. In turn early Wittgenstein’s philosophy sets the limits of meaningful propositions and provides the distinction between what can be said and what can only be shown and what manifests itself in the world. But most children and adolescents exposed to religious education in German schools, only know these contemporary references without being aware of their origins. So one of the most challenging tasks in religious education is enabling learners to decode those references and adaptations. Babiński","doi":"10.30439/wst.2021.1.6","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30439/wst.2021.1.6","url":null,"abstract":"Father Franciszek Sawicki is considered to be one of the most important philosophers of the interwar period in Poland. The problem of love must be regarded as one of the most significant among many issues he focused on in his research. Sawicki, one of the precursors of personalistic thinking, understands the essence of love as it functions in a personal relationship. Above all, we should distinguish two areas for the realisation of love: love in relation to God and love in relation to another human being. In both instances, Sawicki emphasises the need to take into account the \"erotic moment\" for the sake of full and proper understanding thereof. The erotic moment elucidates love as a force that engages not only the emotional and volitional spheres, but also the categorical and existential ones.
