During this period, the structure of Russian serial publication (SPs) introduced into the information inflow changed almost by half. The greatest dynamics (increase-decrease) is demonstrated in the arrays of Russian SPs in biology and economics. The methodology of building SP subject profiles with VINITI Rubricator is exemplified by Russian journals in chemistry and chemical technology. This methodology enables to assess the flow dynamics and serials information support in any area with given subject depth and specified time period. This issue is of the same nature as self-citedness. However, while self-citedness is classified, its motivation factors are defined, and recommendations are provided for the ethical thresholds, the problem of publishing in parent journals is still awaiting thorough investigation. The authors propose to categorize publishing in the parent journal. Several options for recommendations were considered, i.e. collaborative filtering method and content-based recommendations. The findings were used for building the recommendation service based on two recommendation algorithms – document-based collaborative filtering and content-based recommendations.
