Chereshneva","doi":"10.18413/2075-4458-2018-45-4-660-664","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18413/2075-4458-2018-45-4-660-664","url":null,"abstract":"Getting to the study of the political biography of one of the greatest politicians and statesmen of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a historian acquaints with the milestones of his life and the contribution he has made to the development of their country. Patel's biography is very eventful, but out of all his large-scale achievements, the newcomer is struck by the role of Patel in the “gathering” of the Indian Native States during and after the division of colonial India (for which he was called “Indian Bismarck”) and the creation of the Indian Civil Service. And, although the problem of creating an independent India has repeatedly been touched upon in the national Indological and Pakistani literature, the personality of Patel in this country remains studied insufficiently. The objective of the article is to characterize the personal relationship Vallabhbhai Patel, who took the posts of Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of States in the government of the independent India, with the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the beginning of India’s independence. Two of the most charismatic disciples and associates of the leader of the Indian liberation movement, Mahatma Gandhi, survived their teacher and made a huge contribution to the establishment of an independent India. Their personal relationship as the two titans was not as simple as it may seem to be at first sight. Scholars often took notice of the ancient mythographer’s moralizing maxims. This article is aimed at finding a place for the concept of asphaleia in the system of Graeco-Roman historical and philosophical ideas as exemplified by the Diodorus’ work. Security is thought to be a sign of peaceful and careless existence. It is ensured by wise governance. Public security was certainly considered to be more important than any personal interests. Even when Diodorus speaks about personal security, he sometimes makes a reference to collective protection. If the king cares for his people’s prosperity, treats his subjects justly, maintains the rule of law, then his security becomes a precondition of general stability. Such a mutually beneficial cooperation is traced by the historian at the level of individual ethnic and social groups. According to Bibliotheca Historica, treason for the sake of security was a commonplace. Moreover, such base acts were often caused by the guarantee of asphaleia, but not by promises of money or other material benefits, though such cases were also not uncommon. Not only beneficial rulers, but also gifted generals deserved the reverential attitude. Indeed, good commanders keep a lid on important information, maintain discipline and watch over the course of battles. They are potential saviors of their native land from plunder, distemper and military defeats. Diodorus suggests that the general’s soteria is a guarantee of well-being of his army and his victories. Diodorus believed that citizens doing military service accepted responsibility for the security of their state, because it cared for them in peacetime. The cause of general safety may be jeopardized due to the greed of private individuals. Only modesty and equality accompany glory and security. It is unworthy to cling to one’s own security and cowardly wait for the outcome of war. It is a seeming advantage and it turns into disgrace. It is honorable to sacrifice one’s personal security in exchange for undying glory. Heroes who kept a stiff upper lip and disregarded their own lives in times of trouble were always held in respect. Only prudent and righteous people are able to protect the fatherland. Asphaleia for Diodorus is materialized in the form of certain religious symbols and geographical features. Soviet authors analyze the campaign for the development of new lands from the point of view of the state ideology, noting only the successes of agrarian reforms since the mid 1950-first half of 1960 years. At the present stage, there are new subjects on the problem, in particular historians study the virgin campaign from different sides, point to the negative factors of agrarian transformation. For more than 60 years of research campaign for development of new lands, the researchers have accumulated a lot of relevant material, but at the same time, a number of questions on the issue to date, remain poorly understood. In this regard, on the basis of this study, it is possible to determine the development of the problem at the regional level and to identify «white spots». Это обусловлено тем, что на сегодняшний день в пе­ риод быстро изменяющейся политической и экономической ситуации в мире государство решает вопрос с обеспечением продовольственной безопасности страны. Основную роль в решении этой проблемы играет аграрный сектор. Россия обладает обширными земельны­ ми ресурсами, при грамотном использовании которых государство может стабильно обес­ печивать продуктами питания население и не зависеть от внешних поставщиков продо­ вольственных товаров. После окончания Великой Отечественной войны в Советском Союзе начался пери­ од восстановления разрушенной экономики. Война нанесла большой урон различным от­ раслям производства, в частности наметились значительные проблемы в сельском хозяй­ стве страны. С приходом к власти Н.С. Хрущева правящая партия акцентирует внимание на аграрной проблеме, необходимо было решить в короткие сроки вопрос, касающийся обеспечения граждан продукцией сельского хозяйства, в частности хлеба. Наметившийся кризис в зерновой отрасли был вызван сокращением посевных площадей в государстве: в 1953 году 106,7 млн га против 110,6 млн га в 1940 году [Алтухов, 2014, с. 8]. Победы","doi":"10.18413/2075-4458-2018-45-4-638-645","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18413/2075-4458-2018-45-4-638-645","url":null,"abstract":"The author of the study focuses on the figure of one of the Gallo-Roman epistolographs of the 5th century, Faustus, the abbot of the Lerin monastery, later Bishop of Riez in the Southern Gaul, which considered in the context of the Late Antique transition period. Faustus’ life and his works were studied most often in the context of the Church history and, first of all, from the point of view of his theological views. Using the microhistorical approach, the author analyzes the personality of Faustus in his relations with surrounding people, the reasons for his influence on the formation of the Christian worldview. The article contains biographical witting, information about Faustus’ addressees, which were such representatives of the Late Antique nobility and the Christian clergy as Sidonius Apollinaris and Ruricius of Limoges. The author comes to the conclusion that this Latin author was the spokesman of those type of Late intellectual elite, who, like Paulinus of Nola, devoted themselves to serving God not for career or political reasons, but by voice of their hearts. Studying the inheritance of Faustus of Riez is useful for forming a holistic view of the Late Antique man mentality. {"title":"ESCAPES OF EXILES FROM THE NORTHERN PROVINCES IN THE LATE 1870S AND EARLY 1880S","authors":"N. However, exiles were often able to escape from places of supervision. The article examines cases of escapes of political exiles from the northern provinces and ways in which the local authorities and the police tried to organize their search. The first reason for successful escape in all cases was negligence or the formal attitude of local police officers to their duties. As the second reason we consider the help of friends or relatives of suspect. Both allowed the escapees to move a good distance from the place of surveillance at the time when their escape was discovered. In such cases, the searches were organized through the governors, which added to the runaway for a few days odds before starting searches. Firstly the reports of the police chief about the escape reached the governor, then he contacted the governors of neighboring regions, and they lowered orders to their subordinate officials. The search mechanism, in fact, did not yet exist, and at that time it was only taking shape.
