Aim of the Study : to evaluate the solubility of a newly introduced BC sealer (CeraSeal) compared to those of MTA-Fillapex, and Adseal. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four sealer discs were prepared and incubated until complete setting of the sealers. The discs were divided into three groups according to the sealer’s type and then weighed using a precision balance to 0.0001 g. Then they were immersed in HBSS at 37°C. At 1, 7-, 14-, 21-, and 27-days intervals, the discs were removed from the containers and dried, reweighed, and then re-immersed in a new HBSS. Solubility was calculated as percentage of mass loss. Results were tabulated and statistically analyzed. Results : there was a statistically significant difference in the solubility of the three sealers with MTA-Fillapex always showing the highest solubility except after 24 hours where CeraSeal had higher solubility. All sealers showed progressively increasing dissolution over time reaching maximum solubility values at day (27). Both MTA-Fillapex and CeraSeal had solubility values which exceeded that recommended by the ISO specification No. 6876:2012 (i.e., 3%). Conclusion : Resin-based sealers outperformed CSBSs in terms of solubility dentin. CSBSs’ solubility violated the set range by the ISO specification NO. 6876:2012 (3% mass fraction).","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132446179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Fourteen completely edentulous patients were selected to participate in this study. Selected patients were divided randomly into two equal groups of seven patients each: Group I: received a mandibular overdenture supported by four mini implants in the interforaminal region of splinted by a cemented bar and retained by clip attachment. Group II: a mandibular overdenture supported by four mini implants in the interforaminal region of splinted by a cemented bar and retained by resilient soft-liner material. Implants marginal bone and residual ridge evaluation was done at the time of denture insertion, six months, and 12 months. Results: At the end of follow up period, there was statistically significant difference in the marginal bone height changes as group II (bar with soft liner attachment) showed significantly lower marginal bone height changes around the mini implants compared to group I (bar with clip attachment) but showed higher posterior supporting bone height resorption. Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, it could be concluded that Splinting of mini implants with a rigid superstructure to retain lower mandibular overdenture offers successful results over 1-year period. Using soft liner with bar offers less marginal bone loss around the mini implants compared to clip attachment but with more posterior residual bone height loss.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121877464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A total of 30 human permanent single rooted teeth were used in this study. Teeth were decoronated and roots were split longitudinally into two equal halves, the better one half was kept and the other was discarded (30 specimens). The specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups according to the medicament used: 20% amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles in chlorhexidine (NACP+CHX), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). Each medicament was applied for two weeks immediately after initial baseline microhardness determination. The initial baseline microhardness determination utilized Vickers indenter under a 200-g load and a 15-second dwell time. Post treatment microhardness values were obtained utilizing the same settings. The change in radicular microhardness was calculated as a percentage. Data were statistically analyzed utilizing 1-way analysis of variance (P=.05) and post hoc Tukey test for the multiple comparisons at the same level of significance. The difference between the pre-treatment and the post-treatment microhardness values were statistically analyzed utilizing t-test with a P < .05. Results: 20% amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles in chlorhexidine was the only medicament to result in a statistically significant increase in radicular dentin microhardness, while both 2% chlorhexidine and calcium hydroxide resulted in a statistically significant decrease, with calcium hydroxide having the most detrimental effect.
