Materials and methods : Discs were prepared from recent cubic zirconia material, Katana UTML (K). The prepared discs were fabricated from milled cylinders. Prepared discs were divided according to sintering protocol applied, either a normal cycle (N) or a speed cycle (S). Half of the discs were subjected to biaxial flexural strength (BFS) test using a universal testing machine. Remaining discs were submitted to accelerated aging (A) for 5 hours and then subjected to biaxial flexural strength (BFS) test. Data collected and analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Scanning electron microscope was used for microstructure analysis. Results: Non-significant difference in (BFS) values were found between both normal and speed sintering protocols before and after subjecting to hydrothermal aging, The highest overall values were reported from KSA (2168± 212.4 MPa) . Average mean grain size values showed a reduction in size after subjecting to speed sintering protocol. Conclusion: Speed sintering protocols and hydrothermal aging did not report a significant difference in biaxial flexural strength mean values.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"19 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141396826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) were divided into two groups. Group A: oral positing radiation stent (OPRS) was constructed according to the conventional technique. Group B: OPRS was constructed digitally using CAD/CAM technology. Each patient was evaluated for Dosimetric analysis and assessment of mucositis. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups as regard the amount of radiation dose to organs at risk. In the mucositis assessment, there was a statistically significant difference with respect to the amount of radiation dose to organ at risk (OAR) by comparing the same patients using OPRS and without it, as the use of the stent led to a reduction in the amount of radiation dose to OARs. Severity of mucositis increased weekly, but it remains within the tolerable degree. Conclusion : It was concluded that OPRS can be considered an important therapeutic modality for HNC patients’ immobilization, which decreases the intensity of radiation toxicity. The method used in the construction of OPRS has no effect on how efficiently it controls radiation exposure.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"2007 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141400539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: A sample of 22 orthodontic adult female patients (aged 25-35 years) was included in the present study. The patients had a history of periodontal problems and were indicated for orthodontic intervention with a plan for lower fist premolar extraction. The sectional arch technique and temporary anchorage devices were implemented for canine retraction. GCF OC samples were collected from the deepest periodontal pocket at T0, before orthodontic treatment; at T1, after 3 months of canine retraction; and at T3, 6 months after canine retraction. The collected samples were analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). Results: The registered average GCF OC concentrations at T0, T1 and T2 were 34.31, 34.69 and 35.30 ng/ml, respectively. The change in GCF osteocalcin concentrations from T0 to T1 showed a marginal increase of .370 ng/ml in GCF. A considerable difference was observed between T1 and T2 (0.616 ng/ml of GCF). The overall change in the GCF osteocalcin concentration between T0 and T2 was 0.986 ng/ml GCF. A pairwise comparison among the three studied observation periods revealed a statistically nonsignificant difference (p>0.05). Conclusions: Adult orthodontic treatment has no serous harmful effects on the periodontium as this study showed a nonsignificant increase in the gingival clavicular fluid Osteocalcin concentration level through the 6-month follow-up period, which may be positively correlated with the improvement in periodontal parameters.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"177 S426","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141413629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, by targeting the NF-Y gene, we also studied the molecular mechanism of miR-137. Materials and methods: The (OECM-1) & negative control (SCC-15) cells were transfected with microRNA137 inhibitor, MTT assay was utilized to ascertain the cytotoxic impact. SYBER green-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the expression level of both the miR-137 and NF-Y genes in treated and untreated cells. The collected data were subjected to One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's multiple comparisons test. Results: According to our research, OECM-1 cells transfected with an inhibitor of miR-137 significantly increased their ability to proliferate when compared to an untreated sample & negative control. Also, we reported that miR-137 is down regulated in OSCC and suppression of miR-137 significantly associated with 1.4 folds increase in NF-Y gene, compared to untreated OECM-1 cells. Conclusion: MiR-137 is down regulated in OSCC cell lines compared to normal control & its inhibition has a significant increase in cell proliferation which reflects the tumor suppressor role of miR-137 in OSCC. In addition, its inhibition is associated with marked increase in the expression of NF-Y which suggested NF-Y a new target for miR-137.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"10 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141412567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Case Description: A 47-year-old female patient was referred to our orthodontic clinic seeking an adjunctive limited orthodontic treatment to address the wide space between her lower anterior teeth that affecting her smile and oral function. A radiographic examination showed substantial horizontal bone loss. The patient underwent initial periodontal therapy, followed by carefully planned orthodontic treatment using light forces and long activation periods to align teeth and close spaces. A fixed retainer was placed post-treatment to maintain tooth stability. Conclusion: Treatment success depends mainly on the controlling of dental plaque, and the application of the optimal orthodontic mechanics. Permanent retention is necessary to compensate for the loss of periodontal support and follow-up maintenance appointments for cleaning and scaling should be set after the end of orthodontic treatment.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"118 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141406959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: DICOM files were retrieved anonymously from three different radiology centers according to specific selection criteria. Untreated MB roots with varying degrees of curvature were assessed in the sagittal plane for angle determination. Based on Schneider’s method for root canal curvature assessment, a standardized protocol was developed by an oral and maxillofacial radiologist and was applied by two endodontists independently. The degree of severity was defined according to the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) case difficulty assessment form. Data was tabulated and analyzed, and its clinical relevance was assessed. Data from 192 CBCT scans were collected and statistically analyzed using chi-square and independent t-tests. Results: The average angle of curvature of the mesiobuccal (MB) root of the maxillary first molar (MFM) in the sagittal plane was 22.8 degrees with a standard deviation of 9.8. In contrast, the maxillary second molar (MSM) was 24.3 degrees with a standard deviation of 10.5. No significant difference between the mean angles of the two molars was detected (p = 0.157). Most roots showed a moderate curvature, falling between 10 and 30 degrees (69.3% for MFM and 66.7% for MSM). Materials and methods: This research employed a within-subject comparison of two distinct denture kinds in a randomized clinical trial design as follows; group I: CAD/CAM neutral-zone dentures, and group II: heat-polymerized conventional dentures. Twelve completely edentulous patients exhibiting marked ridge resorption were recruited, and each patient received two denture sets in a random sequence. Dentures were clinically evaluated on the insertion day by a non-operating dentist then, patients used their dentures for eight weeks before further assessments. Dentures' clinical adequacy was rated by the dentist via the visual analog scale (VAS), also a digital force gauge was used to measure the dentures' peak retention force. Patient satisfaction was evaluated according to the patient denture assessment questionnaire (PDA). The obtained scores were used to compare the two denture types using the Independent-samples t-test and the Pearson’s correlation coefficient test was used to assess the degree of association between patient and dentist-reported outcomes. Results: The Independent t-test revealed significantly higher values for patient and dentist satisfaction with neutral-zone dentures compared to conventional dentures, and also a higher mean value for CAD/CAM dentures' peak retention force (P <0.001). Pearson's correlation coefficient test revealed a non-significant correlation between patient and dentist satisfaction scores (p>0.05). Conclusion: Milled neutral-zone dentures demonstrated better retention and better impact on patient and dentist acceptance than conventional heat-polymerized dentures.","PeriodicalId":104867,"journal":{"name":"Ain Shams Dental Journal","volume":"22 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141391636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
