The generalized eigenvalues of this problem are the complex propagation constants on a logarithmic Reimann surface. The original problem is reduced to a spectral problem with compact integral operator. Theorem on spectrum localization is proved, and then it is proved that the set of all eigenvalues of the original problem can only be a set of isolated points on the Reimann surface, and it also proved that each eigenvalue depends continuously on the frequency and can appear and disappear only at the boundary of the Reimann surface. The existence of the surface modes is proved. The Galerkin method for numerical calculation of the surface modes is proposed. Some results of the numerical experiments are presented.","PeriodicalId":104769,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123097841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The periodic cell includes either two complex-shaped asymmetric metal elements or two dielectric bars with different lengths. The existence of a high order trapped mode resonance was shown for metal-dielectric structure and its properties were studied. For the first time, the existence of a trapped mode resonance in a dielectric planar structure was shown. In this paper, we investigate the near-field behavior for the so-called “cylindrical problem” with discrete auxiliary sources, in the region within the critical distance, where the aforementioned divergence appears as abnormal, rapid oscillations. We provide numerical results and derive an asymptotic formula for the case of a large number of sources that reveals the properties of the near field.","PeriodicalId":104769,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127254683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
