A brake pulse is fed forward to the objective lens actuator to rapidly reduce track crossing velocity of the light spot when in the close vicinity of the destination track during macro seeking. At the instant the light spot reaches the destination track, the track-following operation is performed by only the objective lens actuator until the linear motor stops. This rapid-access system was applied to a 3.5\" optical disk drive, and it was found to provide a seek time for 256 tracks, excluding rotational latency, 30% shorter than a conventional direct access system.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124799923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, multiplexed recording using Bragg selective materials has not provided a large enough storage capability to justify the expense of these systems. Persistent spectral hole burning holography allows multiplexed recording using much smaller wavelength separations between the holograms, and hence dramatically increases the storage capacity possible in holographic memory systems [l]. A comparison between the wavelength selectivity obtained for transmission gratings recorded using hole burning in a dye doped polymer film versus Bragg selectivity in a 1 cm thick iron-doped lithium niobate crystal is shown in Fig. (1). In order to more easily utilize the enormous storage capacity available using hole burning materials, the Stark effect can be used to allow multiplexing in electric field as well as in wavelength [2]. Spectral hole burning holograms consist of both absorption and index gratings. For a simple hologram the index grating results in a significant spectral broadening of the diffraction efficiency. However, this problem can be eliminated by precise phase and frequency control, such that each hologram is recorded using more than one homogeneous linewidth. Because the index modulation is anti-symmetric in frequency, gratings are produced in which the diffracted light adds in phase at the central frequency but out of phase in the frequency wings. Results demonstrating multiplexed recording of such holograms will be shown.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115090140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a \"Big Bang\" of MO industry, we should add more fascinating points for users. The first priority is to realize low cost technology. Cost consists of materials, throughput and yield. The second priority is to achieve a large memory capacity using techniques like a mark edge recording, short wavelength lasers, magnetic super resolutions (MSR) and so on. High speed capability is also important. Especially, MO disk requires an overwriting capability. For future generation MO disk, a lot of schemes are proposed and attract many researchers. Here, I'll try to check such schemes from an above mentioned point of view.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126924335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has the advantages of a single-layered, simple structure suitable for conventional CD processes, high reflectivity, low toxicity and high reliability. Recording marks are formed by filling up the grooves resulting from thermal deformation and deconstruction of polycarbonate resin. Modulation amplitudes of 0.37 (3 T) and 0.87 (11 T) are obtained by this new recording method. The addition of Ti to the recording film improves its reliability by preventing Sn oxidization.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117296778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
