Although 3D storage could be either holographic or bit-oriented, holographic architectures have advantages of distributed recording for lower error rates and massively parallel read/write. However, two barriers have limited progress in the “sugar cube” approach to holographic memory. First, relatively few volume materials are appropriate for erasable real time holography, although a wider variety of thin film holographic materials are available. Second, most schemes require complex interface devices such as scanners, parallel read heads and dynamic lenses which are still under development.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114933358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Beam Selection Technique The configuration of a prototype system employing the technique is shown in Figure 1. A series of beams are incident across the data track at a lengthwise angle of A@. Each of the beams is offset by a distance of Ax, where Ax=xlpsinAO. Here, xip is the beam pitch on the medium. Figure 2 illustrates the structure of the data reproduction circuit. Figure 3 shows the data output timing. This circuit employs a delay line for adjustment to ensure timing match for data reproduction. The beams at each end of the series (beams one and four) are used to minimize the delay. The tracking error signal is generated at the middle of the series.(i) The tracking error signal is quantized as Ax, and the beam with the appropriate amplitude is selected.","PeriodicalId":103906,"journal":{"name":"Conference Digest Joint International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1993","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133142658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
