LTCC is chosen as the substrate because of compactness and or being light-weight. It also offers high-speed and functionality for portable electronic devices used for wireless voice and data communication in rapidly expanding mobile network systems. The aim of this project was to design and simulate a microstrip patch antenna on the LTCC substrate call Ferro A6M tape operating at 2.4 GHz. Two microstrip patch antennas operating at 2.4 GHz was designed, and simulated; a rectangular microstrip patch antenna using LTCC technology has a length, L, 25.5 mm and a width, W, 34 mm and a rectangular microstrip patch antenna using printed circuit board (PCB) technology has a length, L, 28 mm and width, W, 37 mm. Those designs were simulated with Microwave Office software.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121249963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We define a metric which exploits the relation between the number of independent paths in an algorithm and the corresponding implementation effort. Furthermore, we complement the metric with a correction function taking the designer's experience into account. Our experimental results show that with the proposed approach it is possible to estimate the hardware implementation effort, and thereby facilitating designers and managers needs for estimating the time-to-market schedule.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127738757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This use needs specific techniques to protect the consistency and integrity of data contained in the database. The most popular technique used to attain the data protection (serializability) is locking (i.e., each transaction reserves access to the data it uses). Locking is done by following some rules (locking protocol) and according to compatibility function among different lock types (read or write), where a read is not compatible with a write. This research aims to increase the granularity hierarchy tree one more level down to include the attribute level, i.e. locking will be done at the attribute level to allow several transactions to access the same row simultaneously. The suggested level is expected to decrease the user competition for acquiring data items and to increase the performance of the database. However, this will increase the overhead on the database. By increasing the hierarchy tree one more level down to cover the attributes, the number of database lockable units is expected to increase, because the transaction is lock only the attributes it needs, So in the proposed approach, the database size is increased, because of using the field as lockable units, and the competition parts among transactions is decreased which causes the probability of conflicts to be decreased as well.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133968671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In some applications, actors must communicate with each other to take appropriate decisions and make coordinated actions. Actor-actor network connectivity is vital to networks in such applications. Since WSAN applications are mostly deployed in harsh environments, actor nodes may fail and partition their network. This paper proposes a distributed algorithm to restore actor-actor connectivity upon the failure of any actors by identifying critical actors and use of sensor channel. The proposed algorithm minimizes the movements of each actor on one hand and total actors' movements on the other hand. If the failed actor is a critical node, its neighborhood actors would be relocated in a coordinated way to reconnect the actor network. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been validated through simulation experiments and the results show nearly 33% improvement in total movement of actors compared to related works.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":"350 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134040098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach was to develop software which performs port scan using half-open and udp technique. The software is then executed on a Linux based Single Board Computer (SBC) which runs TS-Linux 2.4.23 kernel developed by Technology System (TS). It is interesting enough to find that regardless of the limitation of processing power, the system performance on the embedded platform is at par with other port scanners running on a much better performance PC. The findings indicate that low end embedded Linux platform is suitable for network security application and it is marketable at a lower cost with the extra benefit of portability.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":"239 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131723210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the traditional wireless network uses single access point for data transmission, WMN uses multiple radios for simultaneous transmission. However, WMN may have poor performance during the transmission of TCP. TCP congestion control mechanism in WMN causes packet delay. Having known the challenges of TCP transmission in WMN, in this paper, we present an overview of TCP analysis over the routing protocols (AODV and DSR) in WMN. The S-box values are generated from the multiplicative inverse of Galois finite field GF(28) with an affine transform. There are many techniques of gaining the multiplicative inverse values were proposed. Most of the hardware implementations of S-box were using look-up tables (LUTs) (memory-based) to store the values which employ the largest area in design. In this paper, a software method of producing the multiplicative inverse values, which is the generator of S-box values and the possibilities of implementing the methods in hardware applications will be discussed. The method is using the log and antilog values. The method is modified to create a memory-less value generator in AES hardware-based implementation. The implementation is proposed to embed on limited memory, small-sized FPGA.","PeriodicalId":103889,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Conference on Electronic Design","volume":" 60","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120933975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This include studies of maturity, bruises and detection of pests or weevil existence in fruits such as apple, banana, zucchini including mango. Regarding fruit grading, the non-destructive methods which can be used are image processing and dielectric properties. Either technique has its own benefits and drawbacks. As for image processing technique, the cost is high since suitable device to acquire the images are by using MRI or X-ray. Whereas for dielectric method, permittivity is difficult to record because the reading is very small and are prone to environment and temperature influence.
