Considering that the power system is operating under quasistatic conditions, by using power flow model and singular value decomposition of the reduced Jacobian matrix, a suitable index to quantify the proximity of power system voltage instability is defined. Then, a neuronal network is trained to learn the correlation between the key factors of the voltage stability phenomena and this index. Once trained, the neural network provides the above mentioned voltage stability index as output for a predefined set of input variables that are known as directly influencing the stability conditions of the power system. Since the input variables for the neural network may be obtained from the steady state estimator, the proposed method can be implemented as a function of the Energy Management System (EMS) for on-line voltage stability monitoring. Tests are carried out using the IEEE 30-bus system, where different operating scenarios are considered.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"515 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123074789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Magnet design and construction, according to beneficiary requirements, are presented. A 2D magnetic modeling optimization of the magnetic pole shape is required in order to obtain a good homogeneity of the magnetic field in the center of the magnet. The numeric modeling is validated by magnetic measurements made on the considered prototype, using a measurement system with Hall Probe.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115297877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal location of the distributed generator is determined first based on the power losses. Then, the optimization is performed for two objective functions, the generation cost and the power losses, subjected to constraints. The optimization is performed for two cases: when the distributed generator is connected to the system, and when the distributed generator is not connected to the system. The optimization results for the two cases are presented. The analyzes are performed with a specialized software for the simulation and analysis of power systems.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131426241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of the paper is to propose a scenario which concerns the first phase of product development. The trigger could be a review of the scientific research about fuel cells. Because Hydrogen is the source of this system, the first step of this theme is to introduce it, as a vector of energy. Based on the concept of innovative TRIZ method, this scenario could be the point of start for the students to propose a Universal Design program for a PEMFC when the aim is to use it as a source in a classical system (hybrid traction, cogeneration, etc.). The work brings together modern methods of thinking and is addressing, equally, to the teachers, students or researchers. The scenario, as a final result, could be applied on different subjects who are involved in an innovative system based on fuel cells.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130917477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which is obtained inside a human head and the thermal effect due to exposure to electric field from mobile phone was presented. For this research two different models of human head have been used. In the first case electromagnetic parameters of biological tissues of human head were modeled with a volumetric interpolation function that estimates the characteristics of a given tissue inside the human head while in the second case model with layers was used. The layers represent human head parts (skin, fat tissue, muscles, the skull, and the brain). The parts of the human head are based on their electromagnetic properties (conductivity, electric permittivity, and magnetic permeability). In order to obtain the electric field distribution for different cross-sections, the numerical calculation based on the Finite Integration Technique (FIT) and Finite Element Method (FEM) was performed.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131404649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a consequence, in just five years, starting from the 1st of January 2010, the installed wind power had an increase of almost 23410%, reaching today 2952.854 MW. This large value and the uncontrollable and stochastic character of wind increases the difficulty of power system operation. In order to help the operators, wind power forecasting systems are needed so that a close-to-reality planning of the power system can be made. One critical component of these systems is the upscaling algorithm used to extrapolate the wind power plant (WPP) level forecasts for a large area. To this end, some representative WPPs are needed. This paper is presenting the first steps taken in finding the representative WPPs in order to create an upscaling algorithm for the Romanian power system. The entire analysis is made on real production data recorded through the EMS/SCADA system that runs at the Romanian transmission system operator (TSO).","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114243099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The considered transformer is Oil Natural Air Natural cooling system type. During the designing by changing the value of just one single variable implies to recalculate everything. Such operation is time consuming but this drawback can be overcome by fully automating the design procedure, for example using MATLAB. The developed program is written in script format so that it can be easily modified to fit the imposed parameters of the transformer. The designing algorithm of the transformer has been optimized. Thus, it has ten steps with nine validation checkpoints. It may also be used as an educational model. The validations are implemented into the code and are required because there is no sure-fire method for designing a transformer from the first attempt. During the design it is necessary to change various values. Thus, only when all nine verifications are satisfied one may conclude that the transformer is well designed.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115922556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper is an overview attempting to transmit a new perspective on modelling of complex biological systems. We discuss the key points in system-level analysis and multi-scale modelling of bio-systems, making a classification of methods used in different scales and characterizing the multi-scale approach. The main contribution is the presentation of role and importance of complexity reduction in the multiscale modelling of biosystems, proposing in this respect a procedure proven to be efficient for multiphysics structures.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"99 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116651076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to present a comparative study between experiments and numerical simulations of the flow around immersed bodies in vicinity of the free surface. The free surface flows in a planar channel were experimentally investigated in subcritical regim at Reynolds number Re = 3500, respectively Froude number Fr = 0.06. Numerical simulations are performed with the FLUENT code, RNG k-ε turbulent model and the volume of fluid (VOF) model for calculating the free surface geometry being used. The computational results showed a close agreement with experimental data obtained in the laboratory for the flow over the broad - crested weir with smooth and patterned surfaces.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117274877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
