Food security refers to the accessibility and availability of the food resources. A household is considered food-secure if there is no starvation in every family member. With the burgeoning population in the world nowadays, food security become a significant problem across the globe by every country and international organizations. The objective of this study was to forecast the prices of food by category based on the 7 years data from time-series consumer price index reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) from 2014 to 2021. The study considered Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) processes to forecast the future trend of the food prices. The ARIMA model for forecasting food prices showed good agreement and stationery concerning the observed data on food prices based on the Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF). The results show the ARIMA model to be a suitable method for analyzing statistics. In data-poor food prices situations, this method can support potential evaluations of future food prices for decision making and effective management.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"123 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125407359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is inadequate research on ethics and integrity in the context of coastal community development in Malaysia. Hence, this preliminary research’s main objective is to get an initial picture of the state of understanding of the concepts, practices and legal awareness on ethics and integrity amongst Seberang Takir’s coastal community members; where downward mobility is prevalent among inshore fishermen, labourers and small traders. Intense urbanization and drastic increases in tourism and commercial activities means that the success of community development programs depends on the recipients’ ability not only to uphold ethics and integrity in their daily lives, but also to monitor actions and decisions of other stakeholders as well. This preliminary study uses convenience sampling comprising 23 participants who are government officials, university students and committee members of a mosque at Seberang Takir in the Kuala Nerus district. A Google Form questionnaire comprising seven questions specifically on ethics and integrity, and seven questions on law reveals notable findings, showing that: (i) professing to ethics and integrity does not prevent respondents from ethical misconducts; (ii) 41.1% of respondents are ambivalent, in agreement and strongly in agreement of unqualified people getting various types of government assistance; (iii) 52.2% agree and strongly agree that leaders of organizations/community groups should compromise ethics and integrity if doing so means that the quality of life of their members/subordinates can be improved; and (iv) there is a clear splitting of views amongst respondents on transgressing against ethics and integrity even if no law is broken. This explains why despite the high level of trust that they have in the law, more than 90% agree and strongly agree that the law in Malaysia is still not effective and must be amended. Hence, it is imperative that participants’ levels of understanding on ethics, integrity and law be increased through knowledge transfer so that the concerns identified above can be rectified.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122534772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each perspective has various measures, and hence a battery of scales is mandated to measure the performance for an individual sector like marine, agriculture, and similar. For the marine-product sector of India, scores are transformed and combined to follow normal distributions enabling parametric analysis. A method of sector-specific logistics performance index (LPI-S) is proposed addressing multi-dimensional, multi-scale response categories satisfying the desired properties of an index. An empirical illustration is given to assess LPI-S for the marine-product sector in India, combining responses of 141 Indian marine exporters in a battery with nine dimensions. The proposed method generates continuous, monotonic data, and distributions of dimension/battery scores are normal. The LPI-S scores have better arithmetic aggregation admissibility, even if lengths of dimensions are different. In addition, it identifies critical dimensions, detects changes by longitudinal data, and dimension-wise elasticity reflecting the sensitivity of the dimension from snap-shot data. Irrespective of dimensions and types of data, the proposed methodology uses the sensitivity of a dimension on LPI-S to help policy makings separately for individual categories to improve logistics efficiency. The study identified eight crucial dimensions associated with marine product logistics. The sensitivity of these dimensions in the descending order of importance were - Information system, Regulatory process, Safety & Security issues, Timeliness and Completeness efficiency, Sustainability in logistics, Operating conditions, Logistics facility pricing, Quality of Logistic services, Transportation Networks and Logistics infrastructure. Such ordering of dimensions help in deciding policy priorities.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115888691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, the ECER Development Council (ECERDC) is driving development in the ECER by launching several high-impact projects and programmes to promote socioeconomic transformation by increasing private investment in the region. The ultimate goal is to close the socioeconomic gap between East and West Coasts by empowering local communities to benefit from job and entrepreneurial opportunities. One of the ECER projects is the construction of the Palekbang Bridge in Kelantan, which will connect Kota Bharu and Palekbang, Tumpat. The bridge construction is critical in light of two factors: Congestion at the Sultan Yahya Petra Bridge and limited growth in the Kota Bharu city centre. This paper discusses the role of ECERDC as the primary monitoring body for the project, as well as the potential of the Palekbang Bridge to provide physical, economic, and social benefits to citizens. It is hoped that the bridge construction will address congestion and limited growth, stimulate trade activities, improve connectivity, and accessibility. As a result, economic growth across all economic sectors will be boosted in the coming years.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129448003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The preliminary proposed predictors for the logit models included voyage cost variables and Canal's attributes. For the route choice of coal from the East Coast of Colombia to Chile, voyage cost factors such as Panama Canal cost, distance difference between Panama versus alternative route, post arrival of vessel to the next port and the maximum transit draft were important factors in this choice, as well as Panama Canal attributes such as vessel arrivals at the Panama Canal and the Panamax Plus requirement to transit the neopanamax locks. The route choice involved the Panama Canal and Cape Horn/Magellan Strait in the Southern tip of South America. This study analyzed coal traffic between October 1, 2016, and September 30, 2020, and briefly discussed the future of coal movements through Panama, given Chile's long term plans to generate electricity using renewanable energy sources and hydrogen. This paper is a contribution to the discrete choice literature and attempted to provide insights into route choice factors involving the Panama Canal, proposing new preliminary explanatory variables to better understand route choices that may apply in future Panama Canal studies. The study will be a contribution to the universal maritime coal transportation literature, and it is a continuation on research related to the Panama canal, particularly on route choices using AIS information.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129612483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the concept or the tools to measure whether a seaport has achieved the criteria of port-city is still lacking. This paper aims to identify the port city measurement and to propose a novel framework for extending port city development as a tool to improve the maritime tourism sector. This paper adopted a traditional systematic literature review (SLR) with content analysis to code the outcome. The final results indicate that only seven articles validated outcomes from the Scopus database. Based on the global view outcome, there are only six main clusters and 27 sub-factors influencing the development of port cities. The six main clusters were: port characteristics; the awareness of maritime stakeholders, port intensity, vessel characteristics, information technology, and the government’s role. The new strategies could lead to a digitalization of decision-making methods in smart maritime tourism in port city development.","PeriodicalId":102926,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF MARITIME LOGISTICS","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129090382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
