This comprehensive document reinforces many previous recommendations and provides new evidence and expert opinion that is useful to the perioperative team, including information on risk assessment of ischemic heart disease and associated medical conditions, perioperative medications, cardiac devices, anesthesia, and monitoring. Effective pain management requires an understanding of nociplastic pain, a condition characterized by amplification of pain transmission and pain perception. Unlike nociceptive and neuropathic pain, nociplastic pain does not involve visible tissue injury or damage, which makes it difficult to understand and manage.
