Most of the video surveillance systems recognize human on the basis of face, but the careful study shows that faces become vague from cameras either due to mask worn by terrorists or thieves, or due to distance from camera. This constraint makes thorny the investigation of an event after it has occurred. The objective of this paper is to propose a system that can recognize humans on the basis of their cloth color irrespective of their face ambiguity so that wearing of mask and distance of people from camera does not make any difference. The system is composed of two parts. One part detect the humans present in the video, segment the detected humans according to their trouser and shirt color and store the parameters of these clusters found with color based K-mean clustering. The second part is the query system. It provides an interface to the user to enter the query to get the required information from the video. By using this system we can convert a lot of available data (in the form of video) in to fruitful information. The system can also be used as image indexing with some modifications.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116480041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In practical, often, system states are unknown or immeasurable. In applications like state feedback control design, fault diagnostics or system monitoring, the states information is needed. The precise estimation of states can be done and verified using Kalman filter as state observer. For generation and confirmation of correct states estimate, DC inputs (resembling practical inputs) are developed and outputs from TRS model are collected. The I/O data is invoked in Kalman filter and resulting states estimates are verified for correctness first by examining the state error covariance and then by comparing the evolution of actual and estimated states. The results show that the Kalman state estimates are highly precise and fast convergent to the actual states. The extracted TRS states information is usable for fault diagnostics, control design, system monitoring or as an alternate to costly instruments used to measure system states in industries.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130746148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OFDM has been standardized in various IEEE standards, such as wireless LANS, digital audio broadcasting etc. However, OFDM has a few disadvantages, concerned with the addition of redundant data in cyclic-prefix that it carries. Moreover, its high side-lobes result in significant signal interference. Therefore, a variant of OFDM, namely Discrete Wavelet Multi-tone (DWMT) in wire line and Wavelet OFDM (WOFDM) in wireless channel was proposed in recent history. We have outlined the motivation behind this evolution from OFDM to WOFDM, and have given an overview of its performance analysis as discussed in literature.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123378237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a Chip Multiprocessor, the on-chip memory hierarchy is an important resource that plays a significant role in determining the overall performance of an application. In addition to a number of hardware optimization techniques that work for all types of applications, some software controlled optimization techniques are also effective for improving the performance of on-chip memory hierarchy. This is so because the software controlled techniques generally have a global view of other concurrently running workloads. A better solution to the memory performance problem is to couple the operating system policies and mechanisms to the hardware techniques for management of on-chip memory hierarchy and its optimizations. This paper gives an overview of all such designs that have coupled the on-chip cache optimization techniques with the operating system mechanisms and policies. More techniques are suggested that would be investigated to predict their effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125049023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These projects are essential in validating that students have gained required knowledge and they can synthesize and use that knowledge to solve real world problems. However, the external requirements on educational programs often do not provide detailed guidelines for how to conduct or support these capstone projects, which may lead to variations among universities. This paper presents the results from a survey conducted at 19 different Pakistani universities of the current management practices and assessment criteria used for the capstone project courses at Undergraduate level. Based upon the results of this survey and similar work on Master Thesis capstone projects in Sweden, we present assessment rubrics for software-related undergraduate capstone projects. We also present recommendations for the continuous improvement of capstone projects.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125957799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diversity and dimensionality of the multifaceted service, control, transport and access planes along with multiple objectives over the platform has led us to extend a MCDM method (Grey Relational Analysis). Extended method is then integrated with ontology for capturing semantics and dynamic variations. MCDM helps in achieving the multiple objectives on the basis of multi-disciplinary information domains. The ontology, on the other hand, overcomes the semantic matching and reasoning issues using conventional object-oriented techniques with the help of inference engine. A simple use-case involving the dynamic decision-based routing at private-public network border is presented to validate the proposed solution. The system gives higher throughput and lower call dropping probability with an add-on susceptible delay offering good QoS.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132049401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, it is not possible at time of purchase of such devices to check whether or not all the devices will interoperate as desired. Second, and even more critical is the fact that manufacturer declare their products \"UPnP\" certified, even if not the complete function set specified mandatory is implemented. Third, it is also not possible to find or identify devices implementing a certain required function effectively. In this work we present our initiative toward a central database of UPnP A/V devices, allowing interested persons to assess the function coverage (i. e., grade of implementation) of a certain device according to the UPnP A/V standard. By providing a client-side device scanner coupled with a server-side repository -- both available on the Internet -- any person can contribute to the project by submitting information from UPnP devices in his/her local network and can browse the central database for device specific characteristics. Available UPnP A/V information includes implementation details of Media Server, Media Renderer, and simple players, as well as information about the level of function coverage of a certain device or service class. This information can be used by developers or end users to select devices matching exactly their requirements or to exclude devices lacking implementation of a necessary function.","PeriodicalId":101923,"journal":{"name":"2011 Frontiers of Information Technology","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123067894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
