The result of this analysis is a definition of interdependence between the signal setting duration, cycle, traffic flow volume and saturation flow. In the context of this interdependence the problem of the determination of signal setting duration in the fixed-time mode of signal operation at an intersection is considered. All considerations are reduced by the methodology of state-space analysis of dynamic systems. Accordingly, the paper represents a contribution not only to the traffic flow theory but to the system theory, as well.

","PeriodicalId":101259,"journal":{"name":"Transportation Research","volume":"12 6","pages":"Pages 411-418"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1978-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0041-1647(78)90029-1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74469126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Value of time spent in travel is consequently an important element in spatial interaction and transportation analysis.

Subjective value of the time spent in travel was measured using a psychological scaling technique, magnitude estimation. Data were obtained from 84 Chicago residents. Completion of the questionaire required each participant to provide judgements of the relative value on 115 different trips in comparison to one standard trip (e.g. a 20 min work trip by automobile). Information gained in this way illustrates the variability that can occur in values of time due to various trip characteristics.

","PeriodicalId":101259,"journal":{"name":"Transportation Research","volume":"12 6","pages":"Pages 385-393"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1978-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0041-1647(78)90026-6","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77900069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
