This paper reviews the history and current situation of DH in China, Japan, and South Korea. In comparison to Japan and South Korea, the paper also analyzes the characteristics, problems, and possible causes of the problems presented by Chinese DH. Such a retrospective process demonstrates not only the integration and cooperation between humanities and technology, but also the transformation of humanities in the perspective of new technologies. The transformation, whether active or passive, has led many Chinese humanities scholars to worry and reflect, which is one of the focuses of this paper.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 92-101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329422000012/pdfft?md5=a0caf7274d38a164244af80e29b3225e&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329422000012-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78145263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is true that it has made a revolutionary impact on the teaching and academic research of humanities scholars, which has also raised a severe challenge to traditional humanities scholars who are not ready for the impact of this trend. But in any event, it indicates a shift of paradigm of research, which marks the rise of a new academic paradigm and reading method in humanities studies. It at least bridges the gap between science and technology and the humanities and makes humanities scholars more efficiently digitizing their research results. This is especially true in literary studies, or more specifically, comparative and world literature studies. The so-called “distant reading” is a new way of researching world literature. Comparatists could use such a distant reading method to have a general picture of the historical development and evolution of world literature. But at the same time, close reading is also important which could for literary scholars to have a deep-going research and analysis of individual literary works. Thus it is necessary for comparatists to combine the two different reading methods in comparative and world literature studies.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 28-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329422000255/pdfft?md5=7bd1bfa8663201e14c811d0eeaf1a76d&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329422000255-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90844607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Visitors participated in a variety of physical, augmented, and virtual interactive experiences. This essay relates the author's immersed experience of day four, when he was monitoring a particular stand in the context of the whole exhibition at the Rand Show Grounds, Johannesburg, South Africa. The research method was participant observation, involving brief informal discussions with some exhibitors and conducting an impressionistic tour of the whole exhibition area. A description of some of the exhibitor guidelines frames the author's observations of the conduct of conventioneers when examining one particular comic. Drawing on post-phenomenology, some thoughts are offered on how new media technologies shape browser behavior and media reception. The exhibitor's interactions with conventioneers visiting his particular booth reveals some pointers on delegate interactions with technologies of representation.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 34-40"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329422000267/pdfft?md5=2d8d0376cba0d7536702bbd109a711bc&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329422000267-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84891258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By focusing on the multi-technological hybridity of the visual apparatuses of these editions, issues related to readership and readability, as well as publishing formats and strategies, can be addressed that will facilitate insight into the intermedial reception of Falconer's production. The adoption of different substrates – ranging from copperplates to woodblocks – reflects not only technological innovations but economic factors, including the simplification of production processes as well as the rise of the cheaply produced printed image that would, in the Victorian period, culminate in the 1858 Edinburgh edition of <em>The Shipwreck</em> featuring more than 30 illustrations, as well as numerous decorative devices, by Birket Foster. Above all, it will be demonstrated that publishers utilised specialist bibliographical discourses of materiality that helped potential purchasers to develop a material literacy with which they were able to understand the text-technological encoding of each illustrated edition, including its particular cultural and symbolic value.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 13-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329422000048/pdfft?md5=73c2fefbfaad04fbf673bb6baca80b95&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329422000048-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73400760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The premise is that the popular-scientific as well as academic debate on artificial subjectivity is somewhat narrow, with a bias towards reductionist and functionalist approaches. This prevents the inclusion of the plethora of perspectives inherent in the Western philosophical tradition, while also blocking potentially fruitful input from non-Western traditions. The outsider role of the latter perspectives in relation to the narratives of modern technological society has the clear potential to supplant them where they become myopic, and this overview provides several examples of possibly fruitful contributions. Of particular importance is their evident sensitivity to the political and cultural implications of technology, as well as a set of unique methodologies and approaches suited to uncovering and addressing problems pertaining to the interactions between technology, individuals and society.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":"Article 100001"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329421000017/pdfft?md5=367ef2e1dee4555d91679b5ae79fed8b&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329421000017-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81731703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amongst the early scholars briefly discussed are Arthur C Clarke, Marshall McLuhan, Gene Youngblood, and Teilhard de Chardin, some of whom drew philosophical inspiration from China. Our essay threads the conceptual trajectories enunciated by these visionaries through the analogue to the digital age. The often forgotten early history of the new media is briefly recovered in a period when new software and technologies are appearing by the hour. The metaphor that will be applied is the idea of ‘tracking-as-reading’, tracking-as-leaving footprints, and tracking-the-future.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100956,"journal":{"name":"New Techno-Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":"Article 100002"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2664329421000029/pdfft?md5=153f6ad7efa67d32bb4b5f290aea6a29&pid=1-s2.0-S2664329421000029-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73424556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
