Although digital platforms, enabled and supported by information technologies, have seen increasing applications across various sectors over the past decade—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic—their potential to facilitate and support the transition to a circular economy remains unclear. Accordingly, this research aims to address this critical gap by systematically reviewing the literature on digital platforms and the circular economy from 2010 to 2020 and presenting directions for future research. Our findings reveal that digital platforms have been extensively utilised across ten industries: the sharing economy, social media, labour, healthcare, third-party payment, crowdfunding, lending, e-commerce, tourism, and food. Given the diversity of these sectors, the literature exhibits distinct characteristics and trends. Overall, digital platforms contribute to achieving circular economy objectives by reducing, redistributing, and reutilising waste through enhanced information exchange, improved efficiency and effectiveness in supply network operations, and greater co-innovation.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100773,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Digital Economy","volume":"3 ","pages":"Pages 132-145"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143715790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extensive reviews focusing on the internationalization of digital platforms are very few. There is no comprehensive review focusing on the factors influencing the internationalization of digital platforms. This paper critically reviews studies on the internationalization of digital platforms to identify factors affecting their internationalization. It also aims to identify research gaps and prepare future research agendas. A systematic literature review method guided by the TCCM approach was used for this review. The findings indicate that the category (proactive or reactive) of digital platforms, the ecosystem they belong to, and the region of operation are a starting point to determine the factors that influence internationalization. We take the implementation of China's broadband pilot policy (BCPP) as an exogenous policy shock and use a difference-in-differences (DID) model to investigate how BCPP affects urban energy efficiency and underlying mechanisms. We find that in the pilot regions, the BCPP significantly improves urban energy efficiency. After employing instrumental variable methods to mitigate endogeneity issues, the results remain robust. The further mechanism analysis indicates that the implementation of BCPP improves energy efficiency through the digital elements dividends (i.e., digital talents, digital capital, and digital technology) induced by internet development. Additionally, the heterogeneity results unveil that BCPP has a more significant promotion effect on energy efficiency in cities on the right side of the Hu Huanyong line and in cities with high administrative levels and a smaller share of secondary industry output. However, the policy effect of BCPP on urban energy efficiency is less significant in resource-based cities and old industrial-based cities. One of the central questions in this context is whether and to what extent climate change is ‘priced in’ by the market. In this paper, we give contributions that help answer this question and offer implications for market participants and policymakers. Firstly, we extract the climate dimension of financial news by introducing a measure to quantify it. Secondly, we perform a causality analysis of the linear and non-linear relationship between this quantified information and market data on over 3,000 stocks. Our empirical results show a causal relationship between the market and the climate information extracted from our representation learning methods. We also notice that the strength of this relationship decreases over time, indicating that the climate dimension contained in the news articles is quickly reflected in the market but its effects are gradually decreasing.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100773,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Digital Economy","volume":"3 ","pages":"Pages 146-157"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143799959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes adapting the VoC framework to these changes by adding information governance as a new dimension in the evaluation of political economies. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study linking these two different sets of literatures. On this theoretical basis, the paper outlines information governance’s features and illustrates its manifestation using China as an exemplary case. Finally, a research agenda to substantiate these findings is outlined. Thereby, the paper contributes to the academic discourse on VoC, i.e., the evaluation and comparison of political economies. The advent of digital infrastructure and its development have infused new energy into rural revitalization initiatives. This study leverages panel data from 283 cities over the period from 2008 to 2021, aiming to explore the impact of digital infrastructure on rural revitalization and to understand the underlying mechanisms of this relationship. The findings robustly suggest that digital infrastructure significantly fosters rural revitalization efforts. This conclusion holds firm even after addressing issues related to endogeneity. Mechanism analysis reveals that digital infrastructure enhances rural revitalization through several avenues, including the advancement of digital government initiatives, the development of digital finance, and the accumulation of digital talents. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis indicates that the positive impact of digital infrastructure on rural revitalization is more pronounced in non-first-tier cities and those with a smaller agricultural labor force. Interestingly, the effectiveness of digital infrastructure in fostering rural revitalization does not vary with the degree of regional marketization. These findings have important policy implications for the government to popularize the construction of rural digital infrastructure, fully tap the potential of digital technology in rural revitalization, and accelerate the promotion of rural revitalization.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100773,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Digital Economy","volume":"3 ","pages":"Pages 103-116"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143162915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rise of cloud computing and digital platforms has enabled businesses to scale more quickly and efficiently. Recent studies on international marketing strategies have increasingly considered the impact of technology and platform-based business models. Digital platforms provide competitive advantages using functionalities such as customer support, engineering, and data management, leading to accelerated growth and internationalization. Earlier studies have focused on digital platform companies in multi-sided business-to-customer (B2C) markets, but studies on foreign market entry of digital platform companies in business-to-business (B2B) markets remain limited. Our research fills this gap by identifying the foreign market selection strategy for a Northern European B2B digital platform company offering a digital parcel-tracking platform. Using a mixed-methods approach comprising country portfolio analysis and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), we systematically prioritized foreign markets and found that strategic flexibility, robust digital infrastructure, and strong network relationships are crucial for successful international operations. This study provides a comprehensive framework for B2B digital platform companies, contributing both theoretical and practical insights.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100773,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Digital Economy","volume":"3 ","pages":"Pages 158-175"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143868527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An empirical analysis is conducted by using data of all enterprises in the Chinese ICT industry standard alliance network from 2015 to 2021. We have discovered several important conclusions through our study. Firstly, standard alliance network position significantly promotes enterprises’ digital innovation. Secondly, network diversity positively moderates the impact of standard alliance network position on digital innovation. Thirdly, media attention has an inverted U-shaped effect on the relationship between network position and digital innovation. The analysis of the three-way interaction effect suggests that the different configurations of standard alliance network position, network diversity and media attention will have a different impact on digital innovation. Thus, to promote digital innovation, enterprises should actively establish extensive connections with network members and strive to occupy a central position. At the same time, enterprises need to pay attention to the partnership with diverse subjects and media, and rationally allocate internal resources to enhance digital innovation and reduce potential risks and reputational pressure.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100773,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Digital Economy","volume":"3 ","pages":"Pages 117-131"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143697475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The R programming tool and VOS viewer software tools were used to analyse the results. The results encompassed growth rate, source of publications, and the relationship between authors in the domain of research that was retrieved. The keyword trends, frequency of occurrence, and citation analysis are presented to capture the current research trends in financial crime, digital payment fraud, and online payment fraud. The four major themes that emerged were fraud risk in e-commerce, innovative learning systems for fraud detection and fraud prevention, behavior intention and fraud risk management in the digital banking sector, and finally, information security and fraud prevention. The study observed that most research focused on digital signatures, credit card fraud, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, and so on. The study has some limitations as it uses the Scopus database and articles in English, ignoring publications in Chinese, French, and Spanish. Also, it is not possible to look into each relevant author and article. The subjective nature of bibliometric analysis also poses limitations. The managerial level can use the knowledge gained from these studies to measure risk, invest in technologies that prevent fraud, and carry out awareness and training campaigns.
