Using satellite-derived environmental indicators analyzed via Google Earth Engine (GEE), the research examines changes over the years 2001, 2012, and 2022. The results indicate a significant rise in Land Surface Temperature (LST) over the two-decade period by 2.8 °C in ultra-arid, 2.1 °C in arid, and 1.6 °C in semi-arid areas accompanied by a 15–23 % decrease in precipitation and a 9–14 % increase in potential evaporation. Vegetation health, as measured by the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), declined by 18 % in ultra-arid and 12 % in arid regions, signaling escalating ecological stress. Urban expansion was especially prominent in arid areas, with a 38 % increase in built-up land, contributing to a 31 % rise in PM2.5 concentrations and raising serious concerns regarding air quality and public health. Changes in cropland areas were uneven, with a 9 % reduction in ultra-arid regions and a 6 % increase in semi-arid zones, reflecting evolving land-use practices. These findings underscore the urgent need for integrated strategies that link land-use planning and air quality management, emphasizing climate-resilient water governance, sustainable urban development, and strengthened pollution control to mitigate environmental degradation and enhance regional resilience.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100674,"journal":{"name":"Innovation and Green Development","volume":"4 5","pages":"Article 100295"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145324139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The review highlights exponential growth in CS-SMD research since 2018, fueled by rising ESG awareness, but also underscores significant regional disparities due to inconsistent ESG disclosure and limited investor knowledge in emerging markets. Based on a sample of 5380 non-financial firms across 31 OECD countries from 2017 to 2021, and robust econometric techniques, the findings reveal that SDGs integration significantly reduces CO2 emissions, with governance performance acting as a partial mediator. The SEM path analysis confirms that governance performance accounts for 15.8 % of the total effect of SDGs integration on emission reduction. In a complementary analysis, we examine the moderating roles of carbon economic efficiency and political stability. The results reveal that the mediation effect is substantially strengthened in high-carbon economic efficiency contexts, where governance performance accounts for 20.3 % of the total effect. By contrast, political stability exhibits a more modest influence, with governance performance explaining only 17.5 % of the overall impact. These results underscore the critical role of governance structures and economic efficiency in translating SDGs commitment into tangible environmental outcomes. This study presents an inclusive analysis of the performance of international research trajectories and priorities for circular buildings on the basis of 217 publications from the Scopus database. The results show a steep rise in publications, impelled by growing awareness of climate change, effective resource use, and the economic benefits of circular practices. Western Europe dominated this field, with 193 publications (88.9 %). This analysis revealed prevailing themes, including lifecycle assessments, design-for-disassembly, the integration of recycled and biobased materials, and the employment of digital resources. Future research paths concentrate on increased cross-disciplinary collaboration, the need for greater geographic scope, and the advancement of policy and educational frameworks to foster the promotion of circular buildings concepts. In this context, digital transformation, characterized by its “intelligence, flexibility, and openness”, disrupts traditional combinations of resources and emerges as a vital driver for promoting green innovation in resource-based enterprises. However, existing research on the impact of digital transformation on green innovation in these enterprises still requires further exploration. This study utilizes data from China's A-share resource-based listed companies from 2016 to 2022 to construct a bidirectional fixed effects model aimed at examining the impact of digital transformation on green innovation. Furthermore, we develop a Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) theoretical framework to identify the potential mechanisms at play. The findings indicate that digital transformation significantly enhances green innovation in resource-based enterprises, particularly substantive green innovation. Key mediating factors include technology integration capability, internal control quality, information environment quality, and external financing constraints. Notably, for non-state-owned resource-based enterprises, those in the primary processing industry, and those located in the eastern region, digital transformation exerts a more positive effect on green innovation, which also applies to substantive green innovation. The Small Grants Program (SGP) funds communities to get involved in environmental issues, bridging political declarations with tangible actions. We employed a difference-in-differences method to evaluate the impacts of the Small Grants Program on green innovation via panel data from Chinese cities from 2003 to 2020. Our findings revealed that the Small Grants Program significantly contributed to green innovation, as indicated by the increase in the number of green patents. These benefits persisted throughout the study period. Although the SGP did not have spatial spillover effects on green innovation in neighboring cities, it enhanced the environmental actions of the immediate communities. The Small Grants Program fostered civic environmental awareness and facilitated talent aggregation, thereby magnifying the impacts of community grants on green innovation. Heterogeneity emerged across citiy economic statuses, ethnic minority arreas, and project domians of work. For the analysis, the study divided the full panel sample of 40 countries into low-middle-income countries (17 countries) and high-upper-income countries (23 countries). The study utilizes the Method of Moment Quantile Regression (MM-QR) to address variables endogeneity. The results indicate three (3) main findings: i) For a full panel sample, green growth reduces CO2 emissions; ii) for the sub-sample analysis, green growth reduces CO2 emissions in low-middle-income countries but does not contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in high-upper-income countries; iii) for a full panel and sub-sample analysis, institutional quality increases CO2 emissions in low-middle and high-upper-income countries. This approach emphasizes recycling, reusing, and reducing waste, catering to the needs of eco-conscious consumers while improving companies' brand images. However, existing research on CE has primarily concentrated on established businesses and multinational corporations, with limited focus on emerging areas, especially the marketing perspective of CE. To address this gap, a systematic literature review (SLR) protocol was conducted using the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases to identify key scholarly works. VOSviewer was employed to perform a bibliometric analysis and visualize the findings. The results indicate that implementing CE can significantly enhance marketing innovation, foster the development of innovative business models, attract eco-conscious consumers, and inspire new marketing strategies. Additionally, the research identifies challenges related to CE and underscores the importance of integrating CE into marketing practices. These findings not only guide future research but also aid policymakers in implementing CE within the marketing sector. This conceptual review introduces a novel framework that positions marketing as a driver, rather than just a supporter, of CE practices. It applies paradox theory to analyze tensions and offers a structured visualization of CE marketing systems.
