This disease manifests clinically in varied symptoms, the most characteristic being the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal or pleural cavity. In fact, there are two feline coronavirus biotypes, which include respectively the virulent strains that cause feline infectious peritonitis (FIPV) and the avirulent strains (FeCV) more common in feline population. The high genetic similarity between FeCV and FIPV strains suggests that FIPVs arise by mutation from avirulent coronavirus FeCVs. This link between the two biotypes makes viral laboratory diagnosis interpretation complex, as currently no diagnostic tool allows distinguishing them. This article presents recent information regarding aetiology, pathogenicity, clinical aspects, epidemiology, diagnosis and prophylaxis of this disease.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100463,"journal":{"name":"EMC - Vétérinaire","volume":"2 4","pages":"Pages 169-178"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.emcvet.2005.10.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72033061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The essential symptomatology is widely undervalued and is characterised by more or less diffuse pain and infectious conditions. Understanding the histological nature of the dentin-pulp complex appears important to clarify the entire pathogenic differences and help the clinician in decision making. The main three endodontic treatments are root canal therapy, pulp capping and partial pulpectomy. Each of them has specific indications which must be well appreciated because clinical outcomes depend essentially on the compliance with surgical guidelines. Veterinary endodontic is a part of dentistry that needs precision and training. It couldn't be considered a simple therapeutic diagram extrapolated from its human counterpart.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100463,"journal":{"name":"EMC - Vétérinaire","volume":"2 3","pages":"Pages 140-155"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.emcvet.2005.07.002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72068973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides, urine analysis provides valuable information on many functions of the organism. The author briefly reviews the pre analytical conditions, the operating techniques and finally the interpretation criteria of principal urine tests. Urinalysis helps screening for urinary diseases or establishing a diagnosis. However, blood testing remains necessary to evaluate renal function; the limitations and advantages of assessing plasma urea and creatinine concentration are described. Since plasma creatinine and urea concentrations are only late indicators of kidney dysfunction, renal functional investigations should be considered.
