Clinical data, BMD, serum type I procollagen amino terminal propeptide(P1NP), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25-(OH)VD3], type I collagen cross-linked carboxy terminal peptide beta degradation products(β-CTX), osteocalcin(OC)and parathyroid hormone(PTH)were measured and compared between the two groups. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Results \u0000Of the 1 161 elderly patients with hip fractures, 831 were female and 330 were male. The BMD of the lumbar vertebrae and the total hip in the female and male groups showed that 30.4%(353/1 161)and 6.8%(79/1 161)had T≥-1.0 SD respectively; 36.6%(425/1 161)and 44.7%(519/1 161)had -2.5 SD 0.05). The levels of tP1NP, β-CTX, OC and PTH in females were higher than those in males, and the level of 25-(OH)VD3 was lower than that in males(all P<0.05). As the T value decreased, β-CTX and OC increased and 25-(OH)VD3 decreased accordingly(all P<0.05). \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Conclusions \u0000With the increase of age, the BMD T value in elderly patients with hip fractures shows a downward trend, but its decline in women is faster and earlier.Overall, the BMD T value is not sensitive enough for osteoporosis diagnosis or hip fracture prediction in the elderly, especially in men.In the early stage of fractures, the bone turnover biochemical markers show varying degrees of change, and bone resorption and bone formation are both reduced. The significance of OC, β-CTX and VD levels in early bone metabolic abnormalities requires further study. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Key words: \u0000Osteoporosis; Hip fractures; Bone density

Thirty-two healthy elderly volunteers were considered as control group.RT3D-STI was used to evaluate the global atrial longitudinal strain(GLS), global circumferential strain(GCS), global radial strain(GRS)and LA maximal, minimal and pre-systolic volumes(LAVmax, LAVmin, and LAVp). LA ejection fraction(LAEF), LA passive ejection fraction(LApEF)and LA active ejection fraction(LAaEF)were calculated. The relationship of LA volume changes and myocardial strain with LA function was analyzed. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Results \u0000The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and LAEF were reduced in CHD group and IMR group as compared with the control group, and were lower in IMR group than in CHD group(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the LAVmin was increased, and the LAaEF was decreased in the IMR group(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the GLS, GCS, GRS were declined in the CHD and IMR groups, and were lower in IMR group than in control group(P<0.05). Along with the increased severity of regurgitation, GLS, GCS, and GRS were decreased in varying degrees. The standard deviations of time to peak longitudinal strains(TLS-SD), of time to peak circumferential strains(TCS-SD), and of time to peak radial strain(TRS-SD)rose in the IMR group as compared with the control group(P<0.05). The myocardial motion indicators(GLS, GCS, GRS)had a quite strong correlation with LAEF in the CHD and IMR groups(CHD group: r=-0.745, -0.718 and 0.627, P=0.006, 0.007 and 0.009; IMR group: r=-0.785, -0.781, 0.643, P=0.006, 0.007 and 0.008). The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves analysis showed that the sensitivity and specificity of TLS-SD, TCS-SD and TRS-SD were 89.7% and 81.8%, 78.6% and 84.8%, 85.7% and 72.1%, respectively in the evaluation of LA function changes. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Conclusions \u0000RT3D-STI can precisely and objectively assess the LA function changes by measuring the volume changes and tracing the myocardial motion in elderly IMR patients. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Key words: \u0000Coronary disease; Mitral valve insufficiency; Echocardiography, three-dimensional; Atrail function, left

The operation group had 70 patients, including 26 males and 44 females, with an average age of 74.5 years(aged 66-83 years), and was followed up for≥12 months after surgery. The DEORIO and COFIELD criteria revealed 61 cases of medium tears and 9 cases of large tears in the operation group. The control group had 62 patients, including 27 males and 35 females, with an average age of 74.2 years(aged 65-82 years), and was followed up for≥12 months. There were 41 cases of medium tears and 21 cases of large tears, according to the DEORIO and COFIELD criteria. The visual analogue scale(VAS)scores, range of motion, Simple Shoulder Test(SST), Constant score were recorded pre-treatment and at 1-year post-treatment and compared between the two groups. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Results \u0000132 older patients(70 in the operation group and 62 in the control group)were followed up for at least 1 year. There was no significant differences in VAS scores, range of motion, SST scores and the Constant score pre-treatment between the two groups(all P>0.05). However, the operation group was associated with significantly improved VAS scores, range of motion, SST scores and the Constant score at 1-year post-treatment, compared with the control groups(all P<0.05). \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Conclusions \u0000Arthroscopic acromioplasty and rotator cuff repair can improve shoulder function in older patients with full-thickness RCTs.The long-term follow-up results will be studied further. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Key words: \u0000Arthroswpes; Shoulder pain
