The evaluation on different learning techniques shows that the experience based learning EBL provides a better solution. The time required to process a particular job is reduced as the experience processed by it increases. The processing time can be calculated with the help of EBL. The main objective of this patient scheduling system is to reduce the waiting time of patient in hospitals and to complete their treatment in minimum required time. The proposed framework is implemented in JADE. In this approach the patients are represented as patient agent PA and resources as resource agent RA. This mathematical model provides an optimal solution. The comparisons of the proposed framework with other scheduling rules shows that an agent based approach to patient scheduling using EBL gives better results.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"45 1","pages":"1-15"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88550515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a growing awareness that global environmental change dynamics and the related socio-economic implications involve a degree of complexity that requires an innovative modelling of combined social and ecological systems. Climate change policy can no longer be addressed separately from a broader context of adaptation and sustainability strategies. Past research on artificial intelligence and social simulation has developed a promising methodology. Literature on agent-based modelling ABM shows it's potential to couple social and environmental models and incorporate the influence of micro-level decision making in the system dynamics and to study the emergence of collective responses to policies. However, there are few studies that concretely apply this methodology to the study of climate change related issues. The analysis in this paper supports the idea that today ABM is a consolidated interdisciplinary approach for the bottom-up exploration of climate policies, especially because it can take into account adaptive behaviour and heterogeneity of the system's components.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"87 1","pages":"17-38"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74104022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The estimation of attitude is based on the bidding item's attribute assessment, which adapts the fuzzy sets technique to handle uncertainty of the bidding process. Additionally, it uses heuristic rules to determine the attitude of bidding agents. The bidding strategy also uses and determines competition in the market based on the two factors, number of the bidders participating and the total time elapsed for an auction using Mamdani's Direct Method. Then the range for the trading price will be determined based on the assessed attitude and the competition in the market using the fuzzy reasoning technique. The final transaction price is calculated after considering the conflicting attitudes of the seller and the bidder toward selecting the transaction price.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"43 1","pages":"56-74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76419410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technology of mobile phones has brought ubiquitous access to information coupled with software agents and health care delivery systems in hospitals. It enables patient-physician contact to be more frequent. Such an environment can provide personalized monitoring services to patients and decision support to physicians, as well as maintenance for cost control. This paper proposes the deployment of 3G wireless technology with mobile agents for health care delivery to HIV/AIDS patients. Patient, nurse and physician are the agents in the proposed system. Each agent uses a mobile phone to communicate with the server anywhere at any time without restrictions. The system employs the mobility, flexibility and autonomous characteristics of mobile agents to monitor patients. The system has the ability to provide fast and reliable assistance to the patients.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"8 3","pages":"10-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/jats.2010100102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72447266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A difficulty in producing social simulations lies in the problem of modeling the emergence of social norms. Although empirical evidence has provided insight into how human relationships are organized, the way in which those relationships are used to produce cooperative behavior where each agent only seeks to maximize its own utility is not well defined. This paper proposes a new rule called the Highest Rewarding Neighborhood HRN for social interactions. The HRN rule allows agents to remain selfish and be able to break relationships in order to maximize their utility. Our experiment shows that when agents are able to break unrewarding relationships that a Pareto-optimum strategy arises as the social norm. In addition, the authors conclude the rate and amount of Pareto-optimum strategy that arises is dependent on the network structure when the networks are dynamic, and the rate is independent of the network structure when the networks are static.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"29 1","pages":"47-65"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74088428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, the authors present multilevel, agent-based and agent-directed In Silico Livers ISLs to probe plausible micro-mechanistic details for a cationic drug, diltiazem, in two different types of cirrhotic rat livers. Starting with ISLs that validated against diltiazem disposition data from normal livers, the authors systematically transformed ISL characteristics to achieve validation against perfusion outflow profiles from the two types of diseased livers. In this regard, the authors developed and implemented multilevel methods to trace each object representing diltiazem during simulated perfusion experiments. This enabled gaining heretofore-unavailable insight into plausible micro-mechanistic details from diltiazem's perspective in normal and diseased livers. The authors posit that the presented ISL micro-mechanistic details may have disease caused counterparts during disposition.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"21 1","pages":"1-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87203161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through these interactions, some property, e.g., information, ideas, etc., is spread through the network. This paper presents a general model of diffusion in dynamic networks. The authors simulate the diffusion of evacuation warnings in multiple network structures under various model settings and observe the proportion of evacuated nodes. The network dynamics occur as the result of the diffusion where nodes may leave the network after receiving the warning. The authors use the model to explore how the network structure, seeding strategy, network trust, and trust distribution affect the diffusion process. The effectiveness of the diffusion is a function of the network structure and seeding strategy used in delivering the initial broadcast. The simulation results reveal interesting observations on the effects of network trust and distribution of trust in the network.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"31 1","pages":"31-46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81896882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method of dynamic knowledge representation known as agent-based modeling enables the study of higher level behavior emerging from discrete events performed by individual components.\u0000 In this work, we describe SPARK (Simple Platform for Agent-based Representation of Knowledge), a framework for agent-based modeling specifically designed for systems-level biomedical model development. SPARK is a standalone application written in Java. It provides a user-friendly interface, and a simple programming language for developing Agent-Based Models (ABMs). SPARK has the following features specialized for modeling biomedical systems: 1) continuous space that can simulate real physical space; 2) flexible agent size and shape that can represent the relative proportions of various cell types; 3) multiple spaces that can concurrently simulate and visualize multiple scales in biomedical models; 4) a convenient graphical user interface. Existing ABMs of diabetic foot ulcers and acute inflammation were implemented in SPARK. Models of identical complexity were run in both NetLogo and SPARK; the SPARK-based models ran two to three times faster.\u0000 We are currently utilizing SPARK to develop multi-scale inflammation models in diverse settings such as cancer, viral infection, and spinal cord injury.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"2 3 1","pages":"18-30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1145/1878537.1878541","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"64118730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
