We argue that the Web fundamentally changes the way we find and use information and that those changes give rise to tangible and significant effects in impression formation. We have proposed a model of impression formation that reflects existing schools of thought but also accounts for Web impacts and in this paper, we explore the impact of social networking presence, as revealed by search engine results, on subjects’ favorability ratings of potential team partners otherwise unknown to them. Experiments revealed differences between genders in that females tend to be more favorably impressed than males by target personas that had a presence on online social networks.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Microblogging is such a new communication channel with some considerable potential to improve intra-firm transparency and knowledge sharing. However, the adoption of such social software presents certain challenges to enterprises. Based on the results of four focus group sessions, we identified several new constructs to play an important role in the microblogging adoption decision. Examples include privacy concerns, communication benefits, perceptions regarding signal-to-noise ratio, as well codification effort. Integrating these findings with common views on technology acceptance, we formulate a model to predict the adoption of a microblogging system in the workspace. Our findings serve as an important guideline for managers seeking to realize the potential of microblogging in their company.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Dedrick","doi":"10.2139/SSRN.1017995","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/SSRN.1017995","url":null,"abstract":"Firms in emerging economies are rapidly becoming formidable competitors to long-established industry leaders from developed economies. In some cases, emerging-economy firms are acquiring developed-economy firms, such as the recent acquisitions of Jaguar by Tata Motors and Gateway by Acer. Aside from anecdotal reports of high-level corporate strategies adopted by certain emerging-economy firms, there is little scholarly evidence concerning the operational details of how emerging-economy firms are becoming competitive with developed-economy firms. A common explanation is labor cost or currency advantages in emerging economies. As emerging-economy firms also compete effectively in developed economies using developed-economy resources, this cannot be the entire explanation. We propose another explanation, based on dissimilar adaptation of the Internet to enable and reinforce business practices related to customer relationships and supply chain integration. This paper draws on original survey data from over 450 firms across 10 countries as well as case examples to illuminate three key ways that Internet business practices differ between developed- and emerging-economy firms. First, compared with developed-economy firms, emerging-economy firms place a relatively higher priority on using the Internet to achieve strong customer relationships via service and support. Second, emerging-economy firms place a relatively higher priority on using the Internet to integrate processes with suppliers than do developed-economy firms. Finally, emerging-economy firms are relatively more driven to adopt Internet business practices to expand existing markets and enter new markets, and accordingly report a relatively greater impact to international sales growth compared with developed-economy firms. Our findings suggest that managers in developed-economy firms would be wise to re-assess and re-evaluate their use of Internet business practices - in particular, in the areas of customer relationships and supply chain integration - to retain competitiveness in the dynamic global economy.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... However, few studies have compared the adoption factors to identify the most salient predictors of e‐government use. The purpose of this paper is to compare popular adoption constructs to identify the most influential.Design/methodology/approach – A survey was administered to elicit citizen perceptions of e‐government services.Findings – The results of stepwise regression indicate perceived usefulness, trust of the internet, previous use of an e‐government service and perceived ease of use all have a significant impact on one's intention to use an e‐government service. Perceived usefulness emerges as the most important factor in predicting e‐government adoption. This factor alone explains 74.8 percent of the variance in intention to use.Research limitations/implications – In light of these findings, researchers should still explore the role of adoption factors in e‐government diffusion. Does Offshoring Impact Customer Satisfaction? 离岸外包会影响客户满意度吗?

Fornell","doi":"10.2139/SSRN.1010457","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/SSRN.1010457","url":null,"abstract":"Anecdotal reports suggest that offshoring may have negative implications for North American consumers. Despite the anecdotal reports, North American firms are increasingly offshoring front office functions such as customer service and back office functions such as IT. This leads to two primary research questions. Does front office offshoring actually have negative implications for consumers? If so, why would firms increasingly offshore in the face of evidence that offshoring has negative implications for consumers? This research addresses these questions by considering the relationship between offshoring and customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction, expressed through the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), is an important indicator of firm performance. Higher ACSI scores have been linked to higher firm profitability, shareholder value and risk-adjusted stock returns. We analyze longitudinal data of 150 North American firms and business units from 1998-2006, and find that while front office offshoring is associated with a decrease in customer satisfaction, onshore front office outsourcing is associated with a similar decrease. This finding suggests that declines in customer satisfaction from front office offshoring may be partly attributable to language and cultural issues, and partly related to other gaps for outside service providers (offshore or onshore) to adequately serve and satisfy consumers. We also find that back office offshoring is associated with an increase in customer loyalty. The difference between front office and back office offshoring suggests that in addition to considering whether or not to offshore, firms must carefully evaluate which functions are suitable for offshoring.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... A survey of 145 respondents and PLS (Partial Least Square) were utilized for analysis. The test of this study reveals that mimetic pressure is the greatest significant factor to influence software piracy intention. Coercive pressure, normative pressure, punishment severity, and software cost are also significantly related to the intention. However, punishment certainty does not have a significant influence on software piracy.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Americas Conference on Information Systems. The shortcomings of keyword searches have been elaborated upon by many authors, and many enhancements to keyword searches have been proposed. To date, however, no one has provided a quantitative model or systematic process for evaluating the savings that accrue from enhanced search procedures. This paper presents a model for estimating the total cost to a company of relying on keyword searches versus dimensional searches. The model is based on the Zipf-Mandelbrot law in quantitative linguistics. The model shows that a surprisingly small number of searches are required to justify the cost associated with encoding the metadata necessary to support a dimension search engine. Our results imply that it is cost effective for almost any business organization to implement a dimensional search strategy.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This paper presents results of 12 case-studies analyzing knowledge transfer processes in IT-outsourcing, investigated through 48 structured interviews. The findings identify the main knowledge transfer phases and current practices between outsourcing partners. They are consolidated into a preliminary, empirically-grounded reference model for knowledge transfer in outsourcing. Special attention is given to the analysis of outsourcing-specific knowledge transfer activities and most frequently used knowledge transfer techniques. By analyzing how current practices can be effectively employed or extended to reduce outsourcing-specific knowledge-asymmetries, we provide one of the first contributions to understanding how firms can design, manage and support knowledge transfer as a strategic goal of their outsourcing relationships.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This research reviews efforts aimed at addressing this, and synthesizes a common structure consisting of project contingencies, elicitation techniques, logic of fit, and a success construct, arguing for the need to more comprehensively study and organize each. As a first step in this research, models drawn from organizational literature are used to categorize project contingencies into dimensions dealing with their impact on the uncertainty and equivocality of the overall development project.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... While empirical research guided by common sense reasoning has informed researchers and the software community in the past, the increasing social character of software development provides us with the context and the motivation to provide theoretical underpinnings to our empirical work. In this paper we sample three theoretical domains that could serve our empirical research efforts: social capital, organizational learning and knowledge based view of the firm. We illustrate the utility of these theoretical perspectives by articulating a research model that captures the IT value created by software development teams practicing different methodologies.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
